# 📵 You Being Distracted Has Nothing to Do With Distractions > #Newsletter #Week11 **Published by:** [Sara Endestad](https://paragraph.com/@saraendestad/) **Published on:** 2026-03-13 **URL:** https://paragraph.com/@saraendestad/%F0%9F%93%B5-you-being-distracted-has-nothing-to-do-with-distractions ## Content Soooo, most people think that external triggers like social media, Netflix, or other people are what’s ruining your focus. Turns out it’s not true. A couple of years ago, I read a book called Indistractable by behavioral design expert and best-selling author Nir Eyal. So he did tons of research on why we actually get distracted. And here´s why: Distraction usually starts with an uncomfortable internal state (stress, boredom, uncertainty, self-doubt), and we then look for something to escape that feeling. 🧠📱Example: Let´s say I´m writing an ad then... I get stuck. It doesn´t flow. And now I feel like shit because self-doubt has entered the building. And a perfect way to run away from this emotion? Check some emails, of course. All of a sudden, I'm getting shit done, and the self-doubt is gone - YEY! But not really, because I just failed on my most important task: writing the ad. Now, tactically, how can you use this to stop getting distracted? Step 1: The next time you get distracted and realize you are distracted. Step 2: Then ask yourself: What was the difficult emotion I just felt before I got here? Step 3: Find a way to work while having this emotion. This is how you stop being distracted. Good luck! /Sara < 3 ## Publication Information - [Sara Endestad](https://paragraph.com/@saraendestad/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@saraendestad/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@saraendestad): Subscribe to updates
