Tech Revolution is brimming and without any doubt it is becoming the cigarette of 21st century.
According to a doctor in recent times, a growing number of people in the age group of 30–50 have complained of issues of memory loss. some of which can be attributed to the consequence of living in pandemic with extreme pressure, isolation and increased screen time. Dietary deficiency and lack of proper sleep also contributes to the same. It won’t be an overstatement to classify smartphone use as an addiction to technology.
In the pandemic, we have been out of practise at social interaction, confined in a room, staring at the same screen have greatly impacted brain functioning.
With too much social media usage and content all over us, I decided to take a break for one year and tried to analyse what comes in the learning.
In September 2020, I deactivated my Facebook, Twitter, snapchat and Instagram accounts and started focussing more on Mindfulness, Skill Development and Fitness.
It’s undeniable that our productivity increases when we cut our time from the social media, no doubt social media now a day is of good use to enhance our worldwide knowledge on each & everything if used properly but not using it helped me majorly, we should be very intensional about what we consume on a daily basis on social media and if you are being aware you realise that content consumption is much for the entertainment purpose only.
Initially people enquired being curious the reasons for few days but then they understood the situation and started contacting me through phone calls or messages only (which was the only way out ) It was great because I had less noise and much time to focus on things which actually mattered. I was not bothered about what’s going on in everyone’s life ( They are not either and that’s a big sigh of relief) people are no more that much interested or curious because they have no idea what is going on in my life now.
When you are glued to a screen you are not bothered about what is happening around you and how much food or what content you are consuming, which made me gain extra 24 pounds in the period of just two months of work from home but taking time off from social media helped me keep track of my calorie intake, building good physique and reading 25+ books in a year and a good family time, which was indeed a great achievement.
By mastering not to get hooked by these habit forming social apps, I learned how to not being a prey and focus more on my personal development. The media usage needs to be regulated to increase the productivity by not being pulled to visit Youtube, Facebook or Twitter for just a few minutes, only to find still tapping and scrolling an hour later. something which we do with little or no conscious thought.
