# Equity and Fairness in Art

For the first time, we enter a new realm of innovation for creators and artists of all kinds.

At the end of the day, blockchain and decentralized finance give artists the opportunity for growth and sustainability on their own terms.

Traditionally, if an artist wants to profit, they need to flow through some sort of institutional medium.

If you paint - you need a gallery that gets some foot traffic.

If you make music - you need a label or distributor to put you in front of the major players.

So on and so forth...

In this new realm, the artist has the ability to publish directly to the consumer. Creativity fully on their own terms. Ownership of their own art. Perhaps most importantly, direct power over their personal finance.

We are not there yet, but in the near future blockchain and web3 are going to disintegrate the term “starving artist”.

Why haven’t we always sought a way for the powerless to become powerful? We reward doctors, lawyers, salespeople, politicians the most in today’s society.

Web3 and DEFI give us the opportunity to help artists take their careers to the next level, and that makes me very happy. Not only does it empower the artist, but it empowers the fans to have ownership in the artists that they believe in.

We’ll de-bake this topic more in the coming weeks, since I love art so much. The important thing to remember here is: we don’t fully understand the future yet... It hasn’t been built out or optimized. That’s the special part about it.

We are building it. I am building it. By reading this you are building it.

Sincerely,

Snyder
