Every Sunday, we will provide you with the latest news and updates in the world of the Optimism Stack. ### **🚀 What's Hot in OP Stack?** #### **The Canyon Hardfork** The Optimism ecosystem is set to undergo a significant upgrade with the introduction of the Canyon hardfork, scheduled for activation on Superchain testnets on November 14th. This marks Optimism's first major network upgrade following the Bedrock release. Canyon includes support for the Shanghai and Capella hardforks, along with several minor bug fixes. Notably, it will modify the EIP-1559 mechanism to reduce the rate at which the basefee changes, ensuring a more stable gas fee environment. Additionally, Canyon introduces changes specific to the OP Stack and addresses the handling of unclosed channels, enhancing overall network efficiency. This upgrade, which has already been successfully activated on a devnet, is a collaborative effort with Base and requires passing through the Optimism governance process for activation on OP Mainnet and other mainnets within the Superchain. Node operators are advised to prepare for this upgrade, which promises to bring the latest Ethereum mainnet features to all OP testnets. However, holding the Mode key still offers valuable benefits, including eligibility for the FT Airdrop, a Mode Foundational NFT, and access to the Mode team. This experiment has yielded vital insights into launch strategies, points mechanisms, bonding curve dynamics, and community engagement. The Tech column has been rebranded as "Version," highlighting the specific iteration of the OP Stack utilized by each chain. This led us to conclude that there are three distinct types of Optimistic chains. * **Bedrock (OP Chain):** This chain is considered an OP Chain as it runs the governance-approved release of the OP Stack, and, therefore, will be upgraded based on decisions by Optimism’s governance and contribute sequencer revenue back to the Optimism Collective Collective. * **Bedrock:** This chain runs a fork of the Bedrock version of the OP Stack, with or without potential modification. This chain is currently not part of the Superchain. * **OVM:** This chain runs a fork of the Optimism Virtual Machine.
