It is the central series of the greater [_Mario_ franchise](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_\(franchise\)). At least one _Super Mario_ game has been released for every major [Nintendo video game console](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_video_game_consoles).
