# Unamerican

---

    At peaceful night
    Lying horizontal in a tower
    150 feet from the street
    Inside a nice neighborhood
    Of a nice city
    Of a nice country
    That’s rotting away

    I used to think
    That everything was meaningful
But now I think very few things are
    And everything else
    Is somebody’s ego

    The things I cling to
Are the things I used to believe
    Proved our difference
To the rest of the world
    Now they prove
    Momentum’s power

I hesitate to ask the prewar building
    What it’s seen
    Because I know
Its stories will take me into the past
    And leave me there
    Wondering how we got here

So I’ll lie on a mattress
In a room with heat and hardwood floors
    And a view
    And food in the fridge
    And let go of America
