# Weekly I Ching - December 31 2023

### **Preamble**

“When one’s own day comes, one may create revolution.” So says the Oracle, giving us our final reading for the year. To get the hexagram for Revolution, on the last day of the Western calendar year, gave me a shiver. Indeed, like a snake shedding its skin, we are moving into a new reality. 2023 is soon to be behind us, and with it, its energy.

2024 is scheduled to be the year with the most elections ever. This signals vast political change, as in many places the people want change.

There is a funny paradox in the english usage of the word “Revolution”. It has two meanings, that appear to be opposites. One one hand, it means to change everything, to revolt, to overthrow existing power structures. On the other, it means to come full circle, back to the place where we started.

### **Closing remarks**

With the second line in change, our echo of this week’s hexagram is 42, Kuai. Symbolising the situation of a Tipping Point, it further emphasises the idea, at least to me, that next year will be one of enormous change.

Finally, I will be on holiday next week, and so will post my next writeup a few days later than usual, around the 8th or 9th.
