# The bleeping machine

The machine that goes ping is still here, or maybe a young, improved descendant. All we need now is more hands.I've been seeing the inside of a hospital a bit too much lately. It's not my favorite place to hang out. But, even there, inspiration is in anything. Like the amazing machines they have to save people's lives. Or to monitor their health. Or to provide them with medication and hydration and oxygen and blood. A lot of machines. Which, of course, made me think of that one scene in the Monty Python movie The Meaning of Life. That is the piece of poésie de la vie for this issue (scroll down later). Next to the inspiration, there is also awe. Awe for the people working here. Despite the fact the care profession is severely underfunded in The Netherlands, and severely understaffed, with - especially under the current government - no hope for it to get better any time soon, the people work hard, and with care and love and the best interest of their patients at the core of what they do. It's impressive. And we're grateful for that. This issue of your weekly poetry shot is in honour of all those who work so hard with so much heart. Thank you.
