# how retrodrops work? **Published by:** [turu](https://paragraph.com/@turu/) **Published on:** 2023-04-05 **URL:** https://paragraph.com/@turu/how-retrodrops-work ## Content Recently, the ‘retroactive’ airdrops is getting hot in cryptospace. Such big project like Aptos, Optimism, Arbitrum etc has been dropped their gov token to users who loyals on their chain. So, what is ‘retroactive’ drops mean? Base on coin98, Retroactive Airdrop is the event that distributes tokens to investors, supporters, users, and adopters who went with the projects in the early days. Projects’ distributed tokens are completely free to earn for everyone who contributed to the projects. Looks simpler in the nutshell, but in fact this is kinda tricky to do (if you’re gonna be farming those airdrops), because there are so much criteria to be qualified. Those criteria are hidden. users didn't know when snapshot happening, how much minimum tx, what criteria that must be achieved to be qualified. How to be qualified? There are many scenario how retroactive works, if we see at $OP and $ARB, they’re launched their mainnet first, let the users try and doing something (trading, minting NFT etc) in their chain. After they’re confident, the gov token launched. And most of them are looking for their loyal users.Sample 1 : $ARB drops criteria.Sample 2 : $OP drops criteria. However, some projects are launching gov tokens right away along with their mainnet. Projects like Aptos, Iron Fish, Sui, ZKSpace etc, they’re decided to do that. Usually, they’re dropping their token to users who contributed (coder, node runner, tester, content creator etc) as a ‘reward’ for their contributions. This event usually called ‘Incentivized Testnet’.Sample 3 : $APT airdrop criteria (testnet)Sample 4 : Iron Fish airdrop criteria (testnet, node runner event)Any tips how to get some?Find projects that don’t have a tokenUse it normally, as a normal user would consistently do (or u’re wallet will detected as a sybil)Join their event (testing features, creating content, join community call etc)Follow their social media for updateKnow the risk (losing funds, time, getting scammed etc. so DYOR first)Disclaimer : This is not alpha, since we’re just a bunch of people who always search some ‘new potential’. We’re never being a dev, insider or something. So, you can call us a ‘users’ too.
