Reddit users have reported receiving emails from the now-defunct Mt.Gox exchange confirming crypto wallet addresses for the purpose of receiving compensation. The emails were directed at Kraken and Bitstamp clients who had to provide their addresses to facilitate payments in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).

In the communication, centralized exchanges like Kraken and Bitstamp were referred to as "agents" that would receive payments from Mt.Gox on behalf of the clients. However, the confirmation process has faced some challenges, with some users expressing concerns about delays and lack of responses.

As part of the Mt.Gox rehabilitation plan, payments are expected to continue until 2024, distributing assets that include 142,000 BTC, 143,000 BCH, and 69 billion Japanese yen. Earlier reports from the r/mtgoxinsolvency Reddit thread indicated that Mt.Gox had initiated payments in yen through PayPal at the end of 2023.

The process to compensate Mt.Gox clients has been ongoing for several years. The civil rehabilitation process commenced in June 2018, and a Tokyo court approved the exchange's plan in 2021. Trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi had reassured clients in November that payments would commence by the year's end. The compensation is set to occur in multiple tranches, including basic, early lump sum, and intermediate repayment. Approximately 83% of exchange users supported the refund initiative during the vote in 2021.
