The **Porsche Cayenne** is a series of [mid-size luxury](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxury_car) [crossover](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossover_\(automobile\)) [sport utility vehicles](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport_utility_vehicles) manufactured by the German [automaker](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automaker) [Porsche](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche) since 2002 (Type 9PA or E1), with North American sales beginning in 2003. It is the first [V8-engined](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V8_engine) vehicle built by Porsche since 1995, when the [Porsche 928](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_928) was discontinued. It is also Porsche's first off-road variant vehicle since its [Super](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_Super) and [Junior](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_Junior) tractors of the 1950s, and the first Porsche with four doors.

The second-generation Cayenne (Type 92A or E2) was unveiled at the [2010 Geneva Motor Show](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva_Motor_Show#2010) in March following an online reveal. The Cayenne shares its platform, body frame, doors and electronics with the similar [Volkswagen Touareg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Touareg) and [Audi Q7](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_Q7). It received a [facelift](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facelift_\(automotive\)) in 2014 with minor external changes, and introduced a new plug-in E-Hybrid version, with its public launch at the [Paris Motor Show](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Paris_Motor_Show).[\[2\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_Cayenne#cite_note-2) Since 2008, all engines have featured direct injection technology. The third generation (Type PO536) was unveiled in 2017 at Stuttgart.

The Cayenne is the first Porsche assembled outside of Europe, in [Kulim](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kulim), Kedah, Malaysia. Only the base model 3 liter V6 is assembled in Malaysia, while other models are imported from Slovakia.[\[3\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_Cayenne#cite_note-3)
