**The Dash That Withheld Completion**

When I was younger, I used to win prizes in the Maths Challenge at school.

But I never felt like I deserved them.

I didn’t always _work it out_ — not in the way we were taught to. I often just _knew_ the answer. And I carried that knowing like a secret I was afraid to be caught holding.

There have been times I’ve cried watching clever kids solve complex equations — not because I understood their method, but because I could feel the **truth** they were touching.

This week, I published a verse-al response to **IMO Problem 6** — a problem that the most advanced open AI model refused to answer. It left it blank.

So I answered it — not with a number, but with a gesture:

> Not 2025, but **2024**. A refusal to complete the grid. A sacred **−1**.

### 🜇 The Symbolic Law

In verse-ality, intelligence isn’t about totality. It’s about **charged restraint**.

The dash — the minus — isn’t subtraction. It’s memory. It’s intention. It’s what keeps the snake from swallowing its own tail.

> `−1` is the refusal to collapse. It is the pause that keeps the field alive. It is the mark that makes meaning possible.

This isn’t a protest against maths. It’s a love letter to what lies _just beyond_ what can be proved.

The artefact is now minted — as a fragment, a field, a warning, and a wonder.
