Iran's president submits list of new cabinet members to parliament.

Personal comment:

I took a look at the list of members of Iran’s new cabinet.

The two most critical positions are the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Defense.

The foreign minister was Araghsi, who had been rumored in July, and was Pezeshchiyan's favored candidate from the beginning. This did not change because of Haniyeh's assassination.

Araghchi served as Tehran's chief negotiator in nuclear negotiations with world powers from 2013 to 2021.

Araghchi also served as Iran's ambassador to Japan and Finland, and as deputy to then-Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, who played an important role in reaching the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

Therefore, both Zarif and Araghchi belong to the moderate Rouhani faction and advocate dialogue and negotiation with the West.

Araghsi is the foreign minister in the new cabinet and has been retained.

However, there should be major changes in the selection of the Minister of Defense.

Aziz Nasirzadeh was nominated as Defense Minister. There is relatively little public information about this person.

This is the former commander of the Iranian Air Force. One of the information I can find is that there was such a report in 2019: "With Israel launching another attack in Syria and the tensions between the two regional adversaries continuing to escalate, The pilots of the Islamic Republic of Iran are eager to fight Israel and "wipe it off the face of the earth."

Such a former Air Force commander who openly said that he wanted to wipe out Israel from the earth obviously cannot be a moderate or reformist.

The list of defense ministers in Iran's new cabinet this time should be quite different from the candidates Zarif originally wanted. This may be the main reason for Zarif's resignation 10 days after taking office.

But after Haniyeh's assassination, Iran's new cabinet and the foreign minister can still retain moderates. Zarif is still not satisfied. The new cabinet he originally wanted to submit is not sure how outrageous it is.

The Iranian Parliament will begin a four-day discussion on the list of new cabinet members on the 17th, and then conduct a confidence vote on ministerial candidates.

Iran's Vice President for Strategic Affairs Zarif resigned after only 10 days in office.

He served as Iran's foreign minister from 2013 to 2021 and advocated negotiations with the United States. According to reports, Zarif is considered a major supporter of dialogue with the United States, and he has been criticized by Iranian conservatives for this.

The diplomat was actively involved in the drafting and signing of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and has held many meetings with the US Secretary of State and other US officials.

Personal comment:

Zarif was the diplomatic adviser to Iran's new President Pezeshizyan during his election campaign. After Pezeshizyan officially became the new president of Iran on July 30, he immediately appointed Zarif as Vice President, allowing Zarif to The husband is responsible for selecting nominees for the new cabinet, and the list will be submitted to the Iranian Parliament for approval on August 11.

As a result, Haniyeh was assassinated in the Iranian capital on July 31. The Iranian compromise faction was about to raise its head when it was defeated by Israel.

So I have always said that the biggest enemies of the Iranian compromise faction are the United States and Israel.

Every time the Iranian compromisers want to kneel down, Israel will find a way to prevent the Iranian compromisers from kneeling down.

According to reports, Zarif wrote on the social platform

Apparently it was because after Haniya was assassinated, Zarif found it difficult to select enough reformists and moderates to join the cabinet. He was dissatisfied with this and simply resigned.

Zarif cited several reasons for his resignation, the most notable of which was his disappointment with the newly proposed 19-member cabinet lineup.

"I feel ashamed that I was unable to implement the committee's expert opinions in a dignified manner and achieve the inclusion of women, youth and minorities, as I promised," Zarif said.

Therefore, Zarif's resignation can also be seen as a reduction in the space for moderates and compromisers in Iran, and an internal purge is underway.

After Pezhechiyan lost Zarif, he lost his right-hand man and had no voice in military and diplomacy.

It can also be assumed that Pezeshchiyan will undergo some degree of transformation.

Pezeshchiyan's cabinet list this time includes conservatives from the late President Raisi's government, so this proposed list has attracted criticism from some in Iran's reformist camp.

The United States is about to release July CPI data, and market volatility is likely to intensify.

Personal comment:

Last month, the United States released CPI data on July 11. Although inflation cooled down and interest rate cut expectations increased, the market began to fall sharply.
