# A leap of faith By [Web3Caro](https://paragraph.com/@web3caro) · 2024-05-01 --- It's been on my mind lately that a year ago, I was still working a mediocre 9-5, surrounded by people who I deemed clueless, and how a day doesn’t go by where I don’t feel extremely appreciative that my life changed so radically since working in crypto. So, I thought about writing this Mirror post for people who are hesitant to work in this industry. Especially if you are someone whose current job gives you stability, security, and pays well. Because we all know, if there's something that’s predominant in crypto, it's uncertainty. But there are many of us who believe comfort is dangerous long-term. And we don't have many lives to experiment with, so… why not go with it? For me personally, I realized this was something I had to do, but it happened progressively. I got into crypto in 2021. I had bought my first sats at the end of 2020 but didn’t even know what blockchain was, not to even mention the concept of decentralization. But slowly, I learned. I was genuinely interested in the idea of separating money from the state and giving power and ownership back to the people. I started to CARE. And I'll come back to this later. After the Do Kwon/Terra episode, when shit hit the fan in 2022, I was like- I lost money- what do I do now? Why am I at ease and not at all worried about the fact that I lost a piece of my investment? Why do I believe in the decentralized money thesis? Why do I adhere to it? In my mind, the response was pretty obvious. But up to that moment I hadn't really given it much thought. First of all, I would have never invested anything I was not willing to lose. But there was more to the story. I grew up seeing corruption, skyrocketing inflation, the government overstepping its boundaries and encroaching individual liberties. For the average Joe, the solution to all of these issues would probably be an honest political party that steps in to put the house in order. I used to think like that too. I would have never guessed that the remedy to that kind of evil could arise from _technology_. But this is where the feeling of actually caring comes in: to me, the only way to make it through is to actually give a fuck. From the bottom of your heart. To be invested in the ethos. If you don’t care about trustless and permissionless systems, if you think I'm delusional, idealistic, or have no idea what I'm talking about and your perspective doesn’t let you see beyond your own life, if you're only here to make a quick buck… well- guess what? There's room for you too. Crypto welcomes everybody. Nobody can tell you what to do or not to do. But getting a job in the industry might not be the best idea. Not only will you not provide any real value when it comes to building this space, more importantly: you'll be disappointed when the bears kick in again. Because YES, be sure that will happen over and over again. You'll believe this is all a scam and regulators are right to "protect" (hilarious) investors with their usual draconian measures. But there's another type of people too: the ones that do believe in the essence of crypto, but think this is all too hard for them to actually understand. I've been there too in the beginning. But never for a second would I have allowed that to stop me from being a part of the community and contributing to it. You don’t need to go deep into shared sequencers to be a part of the industry (although with time, if you're truly passionate, you'll realize you'll want to understand as much as you can. Even if you don't have a technical background). You can work part-time, full-time or you can be a freelancer or work ad-honorem- there's room for everyone here. You can work in sales, marketing, events, DAOs, design, HR, content creation, education, whatever you're good at. So, I don't have much more to add, except: do it. **Take a leap of faith**. But don’t over-complain. The industry is far from perfect and it is only 15 years old so don’t expect to come into a place where everything is nice and perfect. Every industry has its flaws, but crypto is especially messy, as we all know. But working in it, I am happy. Every single second of every single hour of every single day. No matter the obstacles, bear markets, hacks, and regulatory attacks.
