# Web3-domains explained: this is how it works

**Web3-domains** (like .eth, .nft, .blockchain, .crypto) work a little **different** from the normal domains we are used to (like .com., .online, .eu).

And with different, we mean **BETTER**.

**In the video below I explain you** how we can use Web3-domains to host and share our websites or other content, for **FREE**.

**The BEST thing about registering Web3-domains?**
--------------------------------------------------

**You only pay once**, and then you OWN THEM FOR LIFE!

So, forget about yearly renewal fees for your domains to the company that owns the domain. **YOU really own YOUR domain**. You **don’t have to pay ever again for renewal** after registering (**starting for 5 USD lifetime!**), AND, if you want, **you can even SELL** YOUR domain.

THE DIFFERENCE WITH ETHEREUM domains
------------------------------------

**Beware**: when you register an ETHEREUM domain at **ENS** or **EDNS** (who are the registrars), you don’t own it, you rent it, and you pay a yearly fee, just like on the regular internet.

### So, don’t rent Web3-domains, buy them to own
