So, what is cyberpunk? In the 1960s, two scientists at the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Fred Clynes and Nathan Kline, took the first three letters of “cybernetic organism” to create the new term “cyborg.” A cyborg is a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature of social reality as well as a creature of fiction. Cyberpunk is a kind of hybrid creature that combines machine and organism, bridging the gap between human and machine. In today’s rapidly evolving world of technology, we are constantly exploring and establishing relationships between machines, identities, and spaces, while simultaneously destroying them. Developments and progress have brought us cosmetic surgery, prosthetics, neuroscience and brain imaging, filters like those found in photoshop, social media spaces, chat record memories, and much more. In a word, we have all become cyborgs. Meanwhile, the relationship between humans and nature is being twisted by so-called progress, with nature being treated as a resource to be exploited, and the channels of communication between living creatures being compressed. The perspective on reproduction and survival is being defined by human power. The original intention and theme of the PleoSynth project is to inspire some thinking: what is artificial, and what is natural? Should we mock, reflect upon, or rebel against those who are faithful to realism and materialism in human phenomena? In short, PleoSynth is a realm without genesis, where all doth seem to fly ‘gainst reason, fraught with rebellion and whimsy, unfettered by bounds or constraints. ## Publication Information - [PleoSynth Official](https://paragraph.com/@whimsyhare/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@whimsyhare/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@whimsyhare): Subscribe to updates
