*Writer Wednesday Prompt: A moment in time you felt alive*

Riding through Santorini, we find ourselves

On an ATV, the world a blur of blue and white.

The sunlight sparkles on the water

As if to cleanse us, to baptize us in freedom.

Realizing we are miles away from home, leaving behind the weeds that threatened to overcome us culminating underground.

Free from the uncertainty, exhaustion and pain.

The road stretches ahead, winding through cliffs

The ocean spreads out, vast and endless

The wind whispers through my ears,

“You are here.“

The fragrant smell of the salty ocean overcomes my senses, my body calms,

“You are okay.”

The sun in her glory, pierces through my skin deep into my bones, with a gentle but steady ferocity declaring,

“You are alive.”

With each mile we drive, we become unburdened by the past. Each turn accelerates us into the now.

My hands wrapped around your waist I lean in, and breathe in the goodness of this moment.

The engine’s hum beneath us, a steady and consistent heartbeat

Leaving behind a place we could hardly breathe.

Here, the air is fresh, salty with possibility.

I see you smile, that familiar smile.

It tickles my insides.

Your eyes reflecting, the same truth as mine.

We are windswept, sun-kissed, alive.

Riding through these cobble stoned streets,

we are reborn

Leaving the past in our wake

Embracing the new, the unknown

Every view, every breath

Feels like a gift, a revelation.

This is what freedom tastes like.
