The **Granatspitze Group**[\[1\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granatspitze_Group#cite_note-1) ([German](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_language): _Granatspitzgruppe_), sometimes also the **Granatspitz Group**, is a sub-group of the [Central Alps](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austrian_Central_Alps) within the [Eastern Alps](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Alps). Together with the [Ankogel Group](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ankogel_Group), the [Goldberg Group](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldberg_Group), the [Glockner Group](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glockner_Group), the [Schober Group](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schober_Group), the [Kreuzeck Group](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kreuzeck_Group), the [Venediger Group](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venediger_Group), the [Villgraten Mountains](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villgraten_Mountains) and the [Rieserferner Group](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rieserferner_Group), the Granatspitze Group forms the main range known as the [High Tauern](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hohe_Tauern). The Granatspitze Group is located in [Austria](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austria) in the federal states of [Salzburg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salzburg_\(Bundesland\)) and [Tyrol](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tirol_\(Bundesland\)). Its highest summit is the [Großer Muntanitz](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gro%C3%9Fer_Muntanitz), 3,232 [m (AA)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metres_above_the_Adriatic)

The Granatspitze Group is located in the central part of the High Tauern. The [Felbertauernstraße](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Felbertauernstra%C3%9Fe&action=edit&redlink=1) road is the boundary of the group in the west. The group is rather overshadowed by its more famous neighbours which include the [Großglockner](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gro%C3%9Fglockner) and the [Großvenediger](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gro%C3%9Fvenediger). The range takes its name from the [Granatspitze](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granatspitze), 3,086 m above sea level (AA)
