# Mashed pumpkin

**Mashed pumpkin** is a vegetable dish made by cooking or [macerating](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maceration_\(food\)) the skinless flesh (pulp) of [pumpkins](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumpkin) and then mashing, straining, grinding, or [puréeing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pur%C3%A9e) until the desired consistency is achieved. It is traditionally served as a [side dish](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Side_dish),[\[1\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mashed_pumpkin#cite_note-1) although it has many uses in cooking and baking.[\[2\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mashed_pumpkin#cite_note-2)
