Hi. I’ve waited a long time to tell you what has been on my mind since the day I found you in that dark cave. Remember? You were 16 and unable to deal with your current reality and seeking an exit. You know, as hard as you think you had it, much worse was going on right next to you. I know, it’s not an excuse. But here, the reality is complicated. Everyone received their slice of the cake and had to eat it no matter what it contained.

The cake was something people ate, each for their own reasons. You probably wouldn’t be able to stay here otherwise. The cake made everything stop hurting; We would eat it and keep moving, despite the ugliness going on around us. . I remember when you snapped, broke down in tears alone in the shower, cried until you had to be carried out. You had to eat the cake.

The first thing the cake erases is that as a young woman, no matter what you want for yourself, there will be forces in nature designed to pull you away from it. Until you master them, the part of you that yearns for freedom will drive you insane, and it will be your own responsibility to come back to yourself.
