# Dave (rapper)

**David Orobosa Omoregie** (born 5 June 1998), also known as **Santan Dave** or just **Dave**, is a British rapper, musician, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor. Dave has gained acclaim for his socially conscious lyricism and wordplay, and is among the most recognised [British rappers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_hip_hop).

Dave released his debut [extended play](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_play) _Six Paths_ in 2016, after the release of a number of successful singles including the [grime](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grime_\(music_genre\)) song "[Thiago Silva](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiago_Silva_\(song\))" with [AJ Tracey](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AJ_Tracey). In the same year, Canadian rapper [Drake](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drake_\(musician\)) premiered a remix single of Dave's song "Wanna Know" featuring himself on [OVO Sound Radio](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OVO_Sound). Dave released his second EP [_Game Over_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Over_\(EP\)) in 2017. In 2018, his [political song](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_music) "Question Time", which directed criticism towards the [British Government](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Government), won the [Ivor Novello Award](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivor_Novello_Awards) for Best Contemporary Song. In the same year he released "[Funky Friday](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funky_Friday)", featuring [Fredo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fredo_\(British_rapper\)), which became his first number-one song on the [UK Singles Chart](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Singles_Chart) and his first [platinum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BPI_certification) certified release.

Dave's debut album [_Psychodrama_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychodrama_\(album\)) (2019) was met with widespread critical acclaim and debuted at number one on the [UK Albums Chart](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Albums_Chart), having the biggest first week streams for a [UK rap](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_rap) album. It went on to win the [Mercury Prize](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Prize), and [Album of the Year](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brit_Award_for_British_Album_of_the_Year) at the [2020 Brit Awards](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Brit_Awards). He made his acting debut in the third season of the [Netflix](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netflix) series [_Top Boy_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Boy), which was released in September 2019. In July 2021, Dave released his record breaking sophomore album [_We're All Alone in This Together_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We%27re_All_Alone_in_This_Together) which was a critical success and his second UK number-one album. He released the single "[Starlight](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starlight_\(Dave_song\))" on 3 March 2022, which became his longest-running and his first solo [UK number-one](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Number_One) single.
