One of the most harmful modern habits is being glued to your mobile while your loved ones sit beside you. This blog reminds us of the value of presence — with our spouse, children, and parents — before it’s too late.

“The people sitting in front of you — they are the most precious.”
One of the most silent yet harmful habits of our time is that even when we are physically present with our closest loved ones, our attention is consumed by the screen of a mobile phone. There was a time when people would sit together and talk, exchange emotions through eye contact, laugh, cry, and truly feel each other’s presence. But today… even while being physically near, we are emotionally drifting far apart.
A wife is not just a life partner — she is a companion, a reflection of emotions, a symbol of empathy rooted deep in your heart. Sadly, when she returns from a long, tiring day and simply wants to hear a few kind words from her husband, he is often too busy scrolling through his phone.
Giving time to your wife, listening to her attentively, smiling into her eyes, expressing love in little moments — these are the prophetic sunnahs that strengthen the bond of marriage.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:"The best among you is the one who is best to his family, and I am the best to my family."(Tirmidhi: 3895)
Just imagine... when she is speaking to you and your attention is fixed on your screen — how painful that must feel. For her, it's not just neglect — it's a heartbreaking message: “I’m not important to you.”
Children crave their parents’ attention. A smile, a simple response, or a story told with love — all these mean the world to them. But how often do we respond to them with:**"Not now, I’m busy!"**When in reality, we’re "busy" with Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp.
**Remember this:**Childhood doesn’t come back.If you don’t give your children time today, tomorrow they may remove you from their emotional lives altogether. If you want to plant love in their hearts, put your phone aside. Play with them. Talk to them. Understand their feelings.
And your parents… the ones who held your hand to teach you how to walk, who sacrificed their sleep and comfort for your peace. Now, when they are tired or want to talk, we sit right in front of them — but are still lost in our phones.
Saying “I’m listening” isn’t enough. You need to actually listen, look into their eyes when you respond, and give them your time.
The Qur’an commands:“And be kind to your parents…”(Surah An-Nisa: 36)
Whether you are at home, in a café, or at a restaurant — truly feel the presence of those who love you.The people on your mobile screen are not a real part of your life —but the ones sitting in front of you are your real world.
Often, by the time you finally "finish" with your phone and turn your attention to your loved ones — it's already too late. The wife has gone silent...The children have fallen asleep...The parents are sitting with eyes full of longing...
Put your phone aside…Listen to the voice of your spouse’s heart…Capture the smiles of your children…Look at your parents with love…Because real life is happening around you — not inside a mobile screen.
