# Testnet Wave 2 is now launched! By [Barry](https://paragraph.com/@zetachainlabs) ยท 2023-04-11 --- After the success of the first wave of Testnet in December, we are pleased to present the second wave of Testnet, in which YOU, members of our community, can participate and try Sui in action! Testnet Wave 2 will begin on January 25 and, like wave 1, will last for several weeks. Validators, full node operators, delegators, application creators, and end users participate in this extended wave. In this decentralized and globally diverse Testnet, we will jointly test Sui tokenomics, including: Epoch Management: Tokenomics operations, such as betting/unstaking, adding and removing validators, and distributing the reward for betting, occur at the boundaries of the epochs. During wave 2, we will implement all these changes except adding/removing the validator. Gas mechanism: Validators will participate in setting the base gas price in the network through a gas price survey, as well as in monitoring the work of validators through the vote counting rule. Storage Fund: Each Sui transaction that allocates new storage charges a fee for each byte that is contributed to the storage fund. Validators are rewarded for a share of both the delegated share and the SUI in the storage fund, which ensures that both current and future validators are compensated for the data they store. Betting Delegation and Proof-of-Stake mechanism: Any member of the Sui community can participate in the management of the Proof-of-Stake network and receive a reward for betting. Stress testing with games As part of Testnet Wave 2, a couple of new games will be held designed for stress testing of our development and implementation of tokenomics. The first game, Frenemies, is open to everyone and is designed to create chaotic movements in Stake distributions. During each epoch, the Frenemies player is assigned a validator and a target (friend, neutral or enemy) corresponding to the position in the betting distribution ranking. The player gets points if he manages to move his validator to the target position, but this is not an easy task, since other players have their own goals! The players who score the most points will receive prizes (and no, it's not an air alert). Frenemies will be launched shortly after Wave 2 Genesis, so stay tuned on Sui Discord and @SuiNetwork. The second game, which is called Validator Game and is open only to validators, uses the mechanism of reference gas prices in Sui. This game allows validators to adjust the minimum gas price in response to simulated external factors such as SUI price fluctuations. These games are intentionally designed in such a way as to cause significant fluctuations in the distribution of validator rates and the base gas price from epoch to epoch during Wave 2. These artificial fluctuations are much more dramatic than what one would expect in a Sui Mainnet, but they are important for testing extreme cases of the tokenomics mechanism. Warning Please note that the Testnet SUI tokens and betting rewards are for testing purposes only and have no associated material value. In the second wave, the first version of the Sui tokenomics implementation is being tested. The exact accounting algorithm will be refined during and after Wave 2. We encourage the community to report any inconsistencies or issues on our Tokenomics Discord channel. As in the 1st wave, the crane will be limited in speed to ensure fair access to gas tokens and guarantee uninterrupted operation for our community. The API-based faucet will be DISABLED for Testnet Wave 2 to prevent abuse by bots. In the second wave, only a Discord-based tap will be available. Validators Validators process and ensure the validity of transactions in the Sui network, and they are encouraged to do so reliably and fairly using Sui tokenomics. For Testnet Wave 2, we doubled the number of validators, from ~20 to ~40, compared to Wave 1. This increases the decentralization and geo-distribution of the Sui network, while maintaining a cohesive core group of validators with collaborative experience. During the first wave, our community of validators jointly participated in exercises on genesis, global monitoring, communication and coordination, incident remediation and software updates. With this collective experience behind us, we will move on to conducting practical interactive rounds of Sui tokenomics modeling (the "Validator Game") on the Proof-of-Stake mechanism, the gas mechanism, the vote counting rule and the storage fund. Full Node Operators Full Node replicates Sui transaction history and serves reading for Sui application developers. During Wave 1, a number of Full Node operators were eligible for incentives, and those of them who met the performance criteria were invited to return as stimulated operators during wave 2. Anyone can run a Full Node in Testnet Wave 2. See the instructions for running a full Full Node (replace 'devnet' with 'testnet', where necessary). Application Developers Our developer community has created many applications, including games, social apps, NFT and utility libraries on Sui Devnet. Testnet Wave 2 is open to all developers to publish, test and share their applications. However, there are a number of differences that can affect both the experience of developers and the experience of users, and which are worth paying attention to: As mentioned earlier, API-based faucet is not available in Testnet Wave 2. Testnet Wave 2 epochs occur approximately every 24 hours, while Devnet epochs occur every 2.5 hours. As mentioned earlier, although the base gas price for Devnet is 1 MIST, for Testnet it varies from epoch to epoch. The Devnet Discord crane issues 5 gas coins (0.01 SUI each) per request, and the Testnet Discord crane issues 5 gas coins (0.02 SUI each) per request. Ride the wave The first wave of Testnet led to very useful conclusions and significant improvements to the Sui software, and we expect nothing less from the second wave. Between the change of epochs, Frenemies, the Validator Game and the various ways of testing our implementation of tokenomics in version 1, we expect a dynamic, rich and informative wave 2!
