DeFi is shifting from yield chasing toward strategic capital deployment models You open an app, see a live APY, deposit into a vault or pool, and the whole process feels obvious. What factors determine whether a strategy can survive across different market cycles

Most users see the visible rate first and assume it is close to what they will ultimately keep. What is advertised and what is realized are often separated by more friction than people expect. By the time volatility and execution costs are fully counted, the yield can look very different from the original promise.

Durability is part of yield quality, even if dashboards rarely frame it that way. At that point, the obvious question is what engine is producing the return. Different protocols generate yield from different engines: fees, borrowing demand, leverage, liquidations, arbitrage, or emissions.

Once the source is examined properly, the next question is who absorbs the trade-off. That can mean providing liquidity without fully understanding adverse scenarios, collecting incentives while absorbing downside, or participating without modeling the path of returns. Sometimes the yield is real, but so is the fact that someone else understands the trade much better than you do.

That is why similar opportunities can produce very different realized outcomes. This also helps explain why outcomes differ so much across participants. One participant might chase the biggest number, while another asks whether the mechanism is sustainable and worth the exposure.

A more mature framework looks at how a strategy behaves across conditions, not just how it looks at entry. What matters now is not just finding yield, but constructing, managing, and sustaining it. The conversation is slowly shifting from excitement about yield to analysis of yield quality.

Instead of relying entirely on manual decisions, Concrete Vaults introduce a more repeatable process. Better infrastructure does not eliminate market risk, but it can reduce avoidable process mistakes. This is where process begins to matter as much as opportunity.

That is when the dashboard stops being persuasive on its own. At the end of the day, yield is not just a number.

Learn more at app.concrete.xyz 🚨
