GM ENS Community,

I am pleased to share my new snapshot strategy with the Digits community, which I hope will empower specific digit communities to make better use of snapshot technology. It is titled ens-all-club-digits strategy and has now been officially merged by the Snapshot.org team.

What is a snapshot strategy? Snapshot offers default functionality to their voting spaces, including being able to add 1 vote per nft, or 1 vote per address on a whitelist. But for something like an ENS club with a certain pattern such as a 4 digit number, a custom snapshot strategy needs to be programmed.

The 10k club strategy has been active for a few months now, and used for 3 major votes in the community. I helped push this strategy to the finish line by helping with code review and communications when it was coded originally by developer Aox.eth. This strategy is creating a combined token weighted vote for the 999 club and 10k club digits. As the months progressed, it was evident that the digit communities for 3,4, and even 5 digits or more needed their own separated votes. In the new council that we are building at the 999/10k club, we need to be able to vote with 999 and 10k separately for their own representatives. Given these needs, I dived back into the code to create something all new along with the help of the snapshot.org developer team.

What we did was create a single group of voters, not combined - where any community can pull this strategy to use for themselves. So the 999 can use the strategy with “3 digits”, the 10k club can use the strategy with “4 digits” , the 100k club for 5 and so on. As there is a big following behind 7 and 8 digit numbers in the OG clubs, this was also a consideration. This one strategy can therefore accommodate the different communities by changing the number of digits in the configuration.

In the process, we made this snapshot strategy more memory efficient, and also solved an issue which will allow for holders of more than an 1000 ENS names to vote without an issue as well. Anyone can use this strategy to build their own digit clubs, this way we can continue growing stronger as one ENS and Digits Family, regardless of language or club affiliations.

The snapshot strategy is at the link below:

https://snapshot.org/#/strategy/ens-all-club-digits

This snapshot strategy will be used in our upcoming 999 specific and 10k club specific council votes, we will be setting up new pages for this and announcing when things go live in the coming week or so. If anyone needs any help integrating this snapshot into their own club, feel free to reach out to me. I am currently exploring adding extra filters like “starts with” or “palindrome” to target even more specific clubs, that may be added to this one or to new strategies in the future. As we build these technologies out as a community, our utility will increase and help us push ENS forward to the masses.

I am my digits and my digits are me,

3757

GM 10K Club, this is a draft for an upcoming snapshot proposal- Formulating a “Council” to administer the Social Club

The 10k club is a new club founded during 2022, and is now going back to basics to establish the club structure for the rest of this year and the years to come. The club was founded on a premise of decentralization, it is a self-regulated and community driven social club for holders of 3 and 4 digit numbers. As it has scaled and grown, we have become well-respected as one of the key social clubs within the ENS ecosystem.

Today it is our responsibility to create a structure for our club’s core team to operate and set an example for the rest of the ENS ecosystem as to how such a club can be run by its community. The mechanism that will be suggested is designed to prevent more transparency and accountability, to give the community true choice of direction, and prevent a small cohort of members from appearing to be “in control” of the club. The culture we want to cultivate is a global community where all members are welcome to give their input and help guide its direction and future.

The following is a snapshot proposal to vote in a council of 10K club gatekeepers. This “council” would be seen as leaders of the 10k club, and they would make decisions together to administer it and guide its future direction.

The council would be made up of 6 members.

The council would be responsible for the Discord administration.

The council would be responsible for the Twitter administration and posting.

The council would be responsible for making decisions around the addition or removal of operational mods and Admins.

The council will be responsible for creating a Code of Conduct for the 10k Club.

The council can define its own roles, and create new snapshot proposals as a council if they need community input on something.

The council members must hold at least one 3 digit or 4 digit ENS name. When self-nominating they need to include their qualifying ENS name, and while they are on the council, they should continue to hold at least one of these assets at all times.

The council would be re-elected every 6 months.

If there is a stalemate where the council cannot make a decision, and is tied 3 - 3 in an internal vote, a general snapshot proposal will be called for the wider community to make these important decisions in extraordinary situations.

Upon completion of the first snapshot, a self-nomination period will start, and the actual council will be voted by the 10K community in a second snapshot proposal and then every 6 months afterwards.

To make changes to the council (number of members, duration, responsibilities) another snapshot proposal must be announced publicly to the club in the future and voted on by a significant portion of the club to make this change.

To gather suitable nominations for the council, the current mod team will open up a 10k club member only discord channel (slow-mode) to self-nominate and provide 1 message with their “platform” or message for the community as to why the community should vote for them. Discussion can take place on the 10k channel itself or on other platforms.

Council main responsibility: Ensure that no unilateral decisions can be made by anyone within the 10K community.

Discord structure under the council:

Discord will have two Admin OPERATORS. At least one of these should be a council member.

These 2 admins are in charge of day to day operation of the discord

Below the 2 Admins, there can be 5 mods as it is currently

The 2 admins can nominate their own mods, and along with them make decisions for the day to day operations as per the code of conduct outlined by the council

The council can vote to add or remove any admins or mods, if they feel the need to intervene. Or change the number of mods that are necessary, as they can change the structure of discord administration if they see fit. If during a vote, there is a stale-mate between council members, a community vote will follow.

Twitter structure under the council:

Twitter will have 2 council members with credentials. One of them is responsible for ensuring that twitter is active and posting, whether this be them personally or electing a social media manager with ability to post-only through a special application.

This is to mitigate that no one is “abusing” the twitter account and the community for their own motives, etc. These responsible community members must ensure that things run smoothly. The council can change the structure of twitter administration if they see fit.

I am my digits and my digits are me

If you have a 3 or 4 digit number, please take this time to cast your vote and help us as a community grow.

Details like # of council members or duration etc can be reconfigured by future snapshots, the important thing is that we get some structure in place so we can accommodate the growing community. As the council starts to operate, they will work with the community to identify any pain points and address for the benefit of the social club.

If this vote is accepted, within 24 hours of the result - the nomination channel will be opened in discord to accept nominations. Afterwards after a few days once the current mod team is satisfied that people have had sufficient time to self-nominate, the following second snapshot proposal will start with all names included in the nomination channel included.

If this proposal is not accepted by the community, we will gather community feedback as to why not, so that we can make another proposal that fits better and propose over again.

Members please discuss the new proposal in the 10k club discord or tagging @10kClubOfficial on Twitter so we can gather final community input and do our best to publish a well formulated snapshot proposal, that we as a community are happy to accept and move on with. We hope to publish the first proposal as early as this Thursday or Friday dependent on the initial feedback.

It is not what the 10k club can do for you, it is what you can do for the 10k club.

Would like to extend my thanks to 055 @LeoAlhalabi for helping author this draft with me, and special thanks to the rest of the current mod team for helping to come up with this idea and push it forward to this point.

Also a big thank you to all of the previous mods and vocal community members that have been a part of our journey, without you amazing digits none of this would have been possible.

All the best,

3757
