It supports retrieval of multiple data types, including text, images, videos, etc., but unlike ViewBlock, it is geared more towards blockchain developers.</p><p>In addition to ViewBlock and Arweave GraphQL, there are a number of other data search tools in Arweave ecosystem:</p><p><strong>SonAR</strong> — a data indexing solution designed to provide powerful search capabilities for the Arweave ecosystem.</p><p><strong>GeniiData</strong> — a data visualization and analytics tool that aims to make the Arweave ecosystem more accessible and usable.</p><p><strong>Permaweb Index</strong> — a search engine and directory designed specifically for the content hosted on Arweave Permaweb.</p><p>All of these data retrieval tools are good choices for Arweave users. However, as the Arweave ecosystem continues to improve, users have created a great demand for a more efficient, flexible, and easy-to-use data retrieval tool for both data access and a better product experience.</p><p>Thus, a search tool developed by <strong>Adot</strong> team and based on the Arweave ecosystem was born, which aims to provide a full-chain data retrieval service for developers and users of Arweave ecosystem.</p><p>Adot completed the search function for the full data of Arweave within about two months. The product has these features:</p><p><strong>Tag search.</strong> Search for certain terms in tags of all transactions, including layer1 and layer2 transactions.</p><p><strong>Full-content search.</strong> It indexed content in all transactions and made them searchable.</p><p><strong>Structure parsing.</strong> It defined rules for top dApps and converted the original json of each transaction to unified structure. These structured texts of their transactions are then used for search and AI.</p><p><strong>AI labeling.</strong> It applied AI technology, i.e., sentiment analysis, to generate labels for each parsed transactions of top dApps, such as mirror.xyz and lenster.xyz.</p><p>Users can search Arweave data and filter the results using ar tags or sentiment tags.</p><p>What’s more, it is not only a standalone data retrieval application, but also can be integrated into any Web3 project using Arweave storage, which not only provides a powerful search function for developers in the Arweave ecosystem, but also enhances the product experience of users when using different types of dApps.</p><p>Not long ago, Adot announced a partnership with WeWeave. Most attendees are engineers or at least have some engineering and technical background. The overall vibe is very technology-driven. As an engineer, I have to say, I love it! But I believe Web3 is heaven for technical builders. We are building a technical network together. AI is another hot topic recently. However, AI technology is heavily based on the dataset size and computing power. Tech giants are leading in both two and very few big players are capable of launching their own models. Most companies are applying models that are trained by giants in niche markets or making some minor modifications. Thus, most AI startups are more product- or design- or marketing-driven. It is very hard for them to be a big player from a technology perspective.</p><h1 id="h-is-booth-necessary-to-get-attention" class="text-4xl font-header !mt-8 !mb-4 first:!mt-0 first:!mb-0">Is Booth Necessary to Get Attention?</h1><p>No again! Adot did not have a booth this year, but I was wearing a hoodie with the logo, slogan, contact information, and product demo of Adot. I was a mobile booth myself. Some people who I once chatted with online previously stopped me when they saw my hoodie. At the same time, people were pretty open-minded and willing to discuss. Most teams sent their core teams or even founders/ co-founders to Denver. Thus, it was very easy for you to exchange thoughts with other teams and see whether there might be a potential collaboration or partnership. For a query, there are millions of relevant web pages. Come on! That is too much. Redundant information, outdated data, and spam are everywhere. Users don’t need and cannot digest so much overloaded information. </p><p><strong>Search Engines Do Not Organize Information</strong></p><p>Throwing infinite information directly to users is not that helpful. People are forced to waste unbelievable time organizing and extracting knowledge from all the mess. However, current search engines focus on listing all information rather than encouraging developers to organize it. It is like a bookstore without categorizing books. Readers have to find everything on their own.</p><p><strong>Web2 Search Engines Are Not Suitable for the AI Era</strong></p><p>Developing and maintaining a search-engine product is labor-intensive in the Web2 era. Developers have to do everything themselves, e.g., produce data, get needed data, store data, process data, design user interface, etc. The development cost is much higher than you expect. The problem was pointed out in 1999 when some people proposed the idea of <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow ugc" class="dont-break-out" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantic_Web">the Semantic Web</a>. They hoped the Internet could be readable not only to users but also to machines, and therefore developers could be relieved from the dirty works of cleaning and sorting information. However, the way that Web2 organizes and stores data cannot reach the mission.</p><p><strong>The Ecosystem of Current Search Engines Is Closed</strong></p><p>Search engines were born and developed because of an open Internet, but they soon “betrayed” the “open” spirit. Everything is closed now. Closed index, closed algorithm, closed user data, and closed ads system. A closed ecosystem might benefit giants to make money but is hurting the overall industry. Those giants “steal” users’ privacy to make money without sharing any revenue, their products are not customized enough to fit diversified user needs, and there are many black-box tricks that might play us.   </p><p><strong>Surprisingly, Search Engines Only Carry…</strong></p><p>Google indexes only less than <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow ugc" class="dont-break-out" href="https://websitebuilder.org/blog/dark-web-statistics/">10% of all content on the Web</a>. Because of the drawbacks of Web2, developers and users are looking for somewhere else to carry their data. Believe it or not, you cannot use Google, Bing, or any other search engines to easily find most of the information. The unchanged mechanism of indexing, processing, and encoding data prevents search engines from finding data in other ecosystems, e.g., <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow ugc" class="dont-break-out" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_web">deep web</a> (not the dark web), and dapps on Web3.</p><p>Do Google and other search engines recognize those limitations? Of course, they do. Why don’t they make any changes? As humans, our brilliant brains help us figure out the structured data like title, date, author, and body texts. Unfortunately, machines are not as smart as us humans. What a machine can see from the same page is the code shown in the below image. Engineers working on search engines have to interpret the codes of the page into structured data to enable search engines to extract, sort, and rank information.</p><p>I guess you might have the same feeling as I do here — are you kidding me? What’s worse is different search engines might code in different formats, and thus, each search engine has to complete the code-to-structured-data interpretation on its own, which is extremely redundant and inefficient.</p><p>Due to all of those limitations, we see people escaping from Google and traditional search engines. They might move to Wikipedia and other knowledge graphs with structured data formats for knowledge organizing. Or, they might use social media like Facebook, Tiktok, Pinterest, and context search platforms like TripAdvisor, Uber, and Booking, or interactive applications like Siri and ChatGPT instead for a better user experience. However, those examples are not perfect solutions. They still have concerns about overloaded information, privacy, etc. That’s why Adot stands up and hopes to lead the changes. </p><p>So, what an ideal search engine should look like? Why might Web3 save search engines? You had to know the exact URL to enter a website. Then, you needed to move step-by-step through the hierarchical navigation structure and finally arrived where you wanted to go. For example, if you wanted to reach out to <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow ugc" class="dont-break-out" href="http://www.a.site/">Adot</a> for collaboration and could not remember its domain name <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow ugc" class="dont-break-out" href="http://www.a.site%2C/"><strong>www.a.site</strong>,</a> you had to start from an information aggregator, clicked startups, then Web3, then infrastructure, then went to Adot’s website, and looked for where the contact information was located in Adot’s web pages. If you could not find Adot under infrastructure, you might need to see whether Adot was listed under Others, for example.</p><p>However, the existence of search engines changes everything. Search engines <strong>lower the barrier for users to access the internet sharply</strong>. With search engines, users can simply input Adot and related information will pop up directly. Sometimes you might need to add extra keywords to increase the accuracy, but still, search engines have changed how people find information radically. Previously, you had to have some basic ideas about Adot to make sure you can find its contact information in the right place, and now, you only need to know the name of Adot, then Adot will come to you. We have discussed how search engines benefited users. What is the impact of search engines on developers? Do search engines also benefit developers? The answer is a big yes. As mentioned, in the pre-search-engines era, users needed to know the exact domain name to enter a website to do further research. People are usually so lazy that they are only able and willing to memorize limited domains. It is human nature. Thus, at that time, the web traffic was held tightly by giant developers. Even though a small player launched a web that could fulfill a specific user need perfectly, it was still hard for people to find the product — because people did not know the domain. However, with search engines, even people do not know the product name at all, as long as they know what kind of things they are looking for. For instance, they just need to know they want to review Web3 search engines in the market, and then, Adot might be listed here in the search result and people will find it much more easily. Thus, search engines <strong>create a relatively fair market for developers to some extent and enable more developers to survive in the industry</strong>. Certainly, this is a good thing for users as well. We all have learned from Econ 101 that a monopoly hurts the market and consumers in multiple ways — the monopolist has no check on its power to raise prices or lower the quality of its product or service. The more players are in the market, the more diverse options consumers can have.</p><p>Besides users and developers, <strong>search engines are also benefiting the whole industry regarding “openness”</strong>. With search engines and hyperlinks, users can directly access any web page and jump between different websites. If a developer wants to survive on the internet, he/she needs to keep his/her website open to search engines and connect to web pages produced by other developers. Previously, users were controlled within one information aggregator, but now, the whole internet is their playground.</p><p>In summary, <strong>search engines create the foundation of the current internet that we are familiar with.</strong> You might feel confused, “Wait a minute. Everything you said makes sense, but I do not think this is how I feel about search engines. Google is a search engine, right? But it is not ‘open’ at all! The traffic is still going to those giants. What’s wrong here?”</p><p>I agree with you. Trust me, I do agree with you. That’s why I am here to write those words and hoping to explore a solution with you together.
