An overview

Let's be honest, $500 isn't much to work with. Most of it will be used for emergencies or to cover operational costs like RPCs and infrastructure.

We could also use some of the money for marketing.

The good thing is that the funds are in USDC, so they're liquid and we don't have to sell our revenue tokens on the market.

The process

As usual, our plan is to vote on proposals when we need to use these funds for specific operations, so you can participate in the decision-making process.

Over the next few weeks or months, we'll be focusing on improving the current TIP process to make it more decentralized and enhance our governance system.

The first step will involve categorizing TIPs into different groups such as protocol changes, application features or fixes, and treasury management.

Our goal is to engage the community in making the best decisions possible for our treasury, while also maintaining flexibility.

A hack worths 120 dollars

On Friday, January 28th, 2024, we faced an API attack that allowed a malicious actor to mint 1.8 million tokens. As a result, 700,000 TROTEL were transferred to an address we control and promptly burned. The remaining tokens were sold on Uniswap by the hacker.

We have since resolved the issue, making our system more robust and resilient. This error could have been much more costly. While our on-chain operations are secure with audits from independent parties and rigorous testing, the weak point remains in our Web2 centralized infrastructure, which we plan to decentralize as the project grows.

Security measures

The hacker exploited a vulnerability in our API endpoint, allowing him to mint any amount from 0 to 100,000 TROTEL. To prevent further abuse, we've implemented changes: now, we directly fetch users' pending rewards balances to prevent cheating.

Additionally, we've introduced weekly limits on TROTEL claims, set at 1,000 tokens per week per user. You can claim your tokens every week as needed, with a global maximum minting cap of 100,000 TROTEL per week. This measure helps us control inflation from the Web2 side.

Importantly, this incident did not impact staking or any of our smart contracts; it was confined to the API.

Getting started

Our application is currently in beta but will be soon open to everyone. In the meantime, you can join the beta by signing up into our waitlist.

To get started, go on app.trotelcoin.com, you will be asked to connect your wallet. If you don’t have one, don’t worry, you can sign up by providing your mail.

After signing up, you will get an email when you can access the app. Also, joining the waitlist will get you the TrotelCoin Early NFT, even if the app launches before you join the waitlist. This way, you are rewarded for being one of the first users on our app.

Take your first course

Once you have the app, you can start your first course. Each course comes with a quiz. When you complete a quiz with the right answers, you earn some TROTEL, our token.

As a Beginner (the free level), you have 3 lives per day, which means you can’t get more than 3 answers wrong on the quizzes.

There are two types of courses: regular courses and courses with conditions. Courses with conditions are like quests and require you to do specific actions to learn better. For example, the course "How to stake your TROTEL" requires you to stake your TROTEL to access the quiz and complete the course.

A few weeks, we introduced the Proof of Collective Intelligence.

The Proof of Collective Intelligence is a new approach in decentralized education that allows anyone to create and submit courses to an app. Here's how it works.

Creators fill out a form with course details, choose categories, and create content with 6 to 12 slides and quiz questions. They pay a non-refundable fee. This information is turned into a json file and sent to the IPFS, which provides a unique code (CID). This CID is used in a smart contract to add the course, linking it to the creator’s address for revenue sharing.

There is a voting period where users vote on the course quality. Voting power depends on factors like TROTEL balance and staking balance. The course listing time varies by creator grade: 2 weeks for Beginners, 1 week for Intermediates, and 3 days for Experts. If the course gets enough votes, it’s added to the app; if not, the creator can revise and resubmit it after 3 days. Future plans include supporting videos and other course formats.

For now, we’ve finished the frontend part and we’re able to collect all the courses informations and send them to IPFS.

In the next weeks, we will be focusing on developing the smart contract to make everything works perfectly such as the voting system and linking IPFS with the blockchain.
