Evaluating career opportunities

The Mission of my business, Resilient Living, LLC, Is to help people understand the trans that are affecting our lives and develop their careers based on their interest and their skills. We must manage our careers like we manage a business. Depending on a single source of income is risky.

Recommendations based on personal experience.

I took three years of Mechanical Engineering before joining the Army where I served as a Radio Maintenance Technician. One of my army buddies told me he was going to Forestry school when he was discharged. Forestry, what’s that? He explained and it sounded interesting. I got books on forestry. I interviewed working foresters. I joined the Society of American Foresters. When I was discharged I got jobs in sawmills and worked for the Forest Service.

While I was in forestry school, I worked summers on a field crew surveying logging roads. In the winter while going to school I designed the roads we had surveyed during the summer. I was a member of the forestry club and photographer for the College Annual.

General Recommendations

As a career counselor, I help my clients find the niche they want to pursue and develop a strategy for success. In your case you have your niche, we just have to focus it.

Here are a few steps to help you assess the viability of a career in this field:

1. Research the industry: Start by thoroughly researching the computer graphics and gaming industry. Look for information on the current trends, market demand, and growth projections. This will give you a better understanding of whether there are ample opportunities and if the field is expected to expand in the future. Based on my limited knowledge, The gaming industry is hot and the demand for high-quality graphics is high.

2. Networking and informational interviews: Reach out to professionals already working in the computer graphics and gaming industry. Connect with them through LinkedIn or attend industry events or conferences. Conduct informational interviews to gather insights into the job prospects, challenges, and potential niches within the field. Professionals can provide valuable firsthand information about the viability of pursuing a career in this industry. Contact Dayvid dayvid@dayvid.com, [Superhero Robot](http://www.superherorobot.com/) He is a cousin.

3. Internships and work experience: Seek out internships or part-time job opportunities in companies or studios that specialize in computer graphics and gaming. This will not only provide you with hands-on experience but also help you assess whether you enjoy the work and the environment.

4. Portfolio and projects: Create a portfolio showcasing your computer graphics and gaming projects. This will allow you to demonstrate your skills and creativity to potential employers. The quality of your portfolio and the projects you have worked on can increase your chances of securing a job in this field. I recommend developing a WordPress Website to display your work. Also, start developing your following. I use GMass as my bulk mail app.

5. Computer graphics and gaming is a vast field with various specializations. Consider focusing on a specific niche, such as character modeling, game design, virtual reality, 3D animation, or visual effects. By specializing, you can develop expertise in a particular area and increase your chances of finding work in that niche.

Wrapping It Up

Remember, the viability of a career in computer graphics and gaming also depends on your skills, passion, and dedication. Stay updated with the latest technologies and industry trends to remain competitive in this dynamic field.

Success requires consistent effort. To rank on search engines you have to be an active blogger and provide unique helpful content. Be sure you understand Google’s new Entity Algorithm

Be careful to avoid scams. As you can see from my personal experience which predates the assistance of computers, the fundamentals haven’t changed. The internet just makes career management easier and more complicated.

Good luck with your career exploration!

A word of caution; Extreme Weather will cause unlivable conditions in most of the world. Shortages of mineral resources will force people to live simpler lives. Electrical grids will fail. Copper will be more expensive than gold. We are in a race between nature and technology and I expect nature to win. Understand the chaos you will have to deal with in your lifetime and be as prepared as possible.

My grandma used to tell me that I was a Jack of all trades and a master of none. She forgot the rest of the story. “And better for it.” Be a polymath. Be a Master of one skill but be good at all the things you need to survive.

I was raised during the great depression. I have lived through WWII, the atomic bomb, the Korean Police Action, Vietnam, the Cold War, and terrible carnage in the Middle East. I have lived during the best time for humanity in the history of the world.

Live with purpose, enjoy the moment, be aware, be prepared, and above all else be resilient.

In a study led by Soeren Mattke, director of the Brain Health Observatory at USC Dornsife's Center for Economic and Social Research he determined MCI is seriously underdiagnosed.

Why is early diagnosis important?

"Early treatment is vital, says Mattke, because the brain is limited in its ability to recover—brain cells, once lost, do not grow back, and any damage can no longer be repaired.

"For MCI caused by Alzheimer's disease, the earlier you treat the better your outcomes," he says. Even though the disease may be slowly progressing, every day counts.

Losing my ability to think or to remember is my greatest fear. It means I would no longer be able to care for myself or be able to work on things that are important to me. To me, that would be a living death.

You won't be tested unless you tell your PKP you want to be referred to a neurologist for an MCI test.

That means you probably won't get tested if you don't have excellent health insurance.

In between, we can strive for excellence, or we can drift with the tide. What we accomplish in our life is up to us. As expressed in my logo, our life is an infinite loop.

The left side of the loop is our inner self. It represents who we are. Our character, our values, and our beliefs are stored in our inner selves. The right side represents what we do with our life. It is the conscious actions we take throughout our lives. We constantly move from our creative side to our action side and back.

The right and left sides of the symbol are not exclusive. In fact, you should reach into your inner self to surface who you are. Write down your values and your beliefs so you make them part of everything you do.

Care For Yourself

When two sides are in balance you will be content with your life. If you don’t take time to care for yourself, you have nagging thoughts that something is missing. If you have a scam job that requires you to hurt others and one of your values is to help others, something has to change, You either change jobs or change values.

I was in touch with my subconscious until I reached my early 20s. I would talk with my inner self. At 15, I knew I wanted to help others and care for my small corner of this planet. I knew honor, loyalty, trust, and industriousness were values that were important to me.

Life-Changing Decisions

In my 20s, I learned that people who talked to themselves were considered strange. I lost the ability to be in touch with my subconscious. Except for some momentous decisions in my life, I never again talked with my subconscious until I reached my 80s.

One of those life-changing decisions occurred in my early 30s, I had an opportunity to go to Indonesia and help them develop a sustainable forestry program. I couldn’t bring my family with me for at least six months. I had already accepted the job and taken my first round of tropical vaccinations. I had nagging doubts. One evening, I went into the forest behind our house where I could sit against a tree and look down into the fog-shrouded valley below me. I must have sat there for three hours thinking about the pros and cons. Finally, I decided not to take the job.

It was a good decision because the forester who took the job was caught up in the Indonesian Revolution. Abandoned by the American company who he was working for, he had a hell of a time getting home.

I didn’t know it at the time, but that was my subconscious talking to me.

Meditation

In my late 40s, I joined a Karate Dojo and learned to fight. The most important thing I learned was how to meditate.

It wasn’t till my 80’s that I reconnected with my subconscious. My inner self usually comes to me when I am meditating or in that neverland between sleep and wakefulness. I call him DES.

DES always comes to me on his schedule. It may be a wisp of an idea. If I don’t write it down it will be gone. Again, we may have a conversation, much like a dream. If I don’t write it down it will be gone the way all dreams evaporate.

My belt pouch always has my pen and a notepad. When DES visits he always gets recorded. I may not take action, but DES’s suggestion is always on my to-do list.

When I finish an article, I usually take a break to think about what I accomplished, how I can improve it, and what is the best use of my time now. This time DES told me I should share some of my beliefs with you.

What I believe is based on a lifetime of experience. I can prove some of my beliefs. For instance, I believe the earth is round. Satellite pictures prove I’m right. I like beliefs I can prove.

I believe I should help where I can and where I cannot help be careful not to hurt. That is a belief I have to take on faith. So far it has worked pretty well for me. Sure, I have passed up a lot of money-making opportunities because of that belief, but what I passed up was always something that would end up hurting people.

I got a phone call the other day. Seems I had won $4 million, a Mercedes, and $5 thousand dollars per month for life. I hung up when they reached the point where I had to Go to Walgreens and buy a debit card funded with $2000 to be used to pay the fees related to processing my payments. I couldn’t take such a job if I were to stay true to my beliefs and values.

Conclusion

I’m not a psychologist. I’m just a regular guy who is curious and studies a lot. The right brain-left brain thing has been a psychologist's hypothesis for a long time. As with most things in science, researchers are finding the brain is much more complicated. There is much more interaction between the left and right sides of the brain than previously thought.

For me, it doesn’t matter where my creative thoughts come from. I know my creativity comes in flashes of intuition. I know I am most creative when I meditate or often when I take a walk.

I got stuck often while I was writing this. I would take a break. Often I’d just lie on my bed and think about what was missing from this article. DES, my inner self, would visit with ideas and I would get up and keep writing.

I’m stuck and I’m meditating. How am I going to close this article?

The point I’m trying to make is to live a balanced life on the infinite path of life. Take time to be in touch with your inner self. Don’t get stuck on the action side of the loop.

Too often we get stuck in the loop where we only help others. That can lead to burnout. People can take advantage of a helpful person. You end up resenting all the work people pile on you.

Learn to say NO. Know what you want to accomplish in your life. Block out time to do the things that are important to you. You will be happier and more content in your life when you take time for yourself as well as for others.

I block out 2 hr blocks of time on my calendar to have an appointment with myself. Those appointments are just as important as an appointment with my doctor.

Be mindful of what you are doing at the moment and make sure what you are doing at this moment is the most important thing in your life.

Busy Beaver Bulletin

Beavers are in my heritage. My great, great, great, great, great grandfather came from Quibec to Fort Vancouver 1836. He traveled the canoe route used by French-Canadian voyeurs who supplied the Hudson Bay Company fort and took beaver pelts back to “civilization”.

Beavers are industrious and purpose driven. They dam streams to create ponds and build their homes in the middle of the pond they created thus creating a moat around their home to protect them from predators. They have the skills and the drive to build an environment where they can survive. We need to do the same in our increasingly chaotic world.

I was raised in Oregon, the Beaver State and I graduated from Oregon State University, the Beaver College

If that is not enough reason to produce the Busy Beaver Bulletin, I just like beavers.

I'm changing my approach. As a futurist, I've been trying to alert people to ecological overshoot dangers. Weather disasters are getting worse and more frequent. As glaciers melt, summer droughts become more of a problem.

As Climate Changes a billion people will have to move and will die trying.

Trying to warn people about the problems we face does no good. Beliefs are stronger than logic. You have to dig deep to find the true cause of a problem. In the case of climate, it is not fossil fuel, it is not that population stresses Earth's resources. It is people's beliefs that cause inaction.

Rather than try to convince people we have a problem, I will focus on helping people who know they have a problem prepare to deal with the problems they know they face.

I am not a prepper who wants to live off the grid and is ready to kill to "defend" the family.

I am a realist who will do everything I can to help my family and my community survive a chaotic future.

So how is that changing what I am writing about?

It is more about the audience I will write for and the tone of my writing. I want to look for solutions not just problems.

I can not do this alone. I have to build teams of people who will work to make their communities more sustainable. We will work as individuals to develop survival skills, create resilient incomes, and maintain the quality of our personal environments.

Hey, Are you like me? You can’t find lost files in your computer. I write a document and then can’t find it. I may even forget I wrote it before I got it published. My files can disappear into cyber heaven without a trace.

I suggest using a filing system developed by Johnny Decimal. The system uses a series of unique, double-digit numbers to enable you to find the file you are looking for. xx.xx.xx. For example. In my system 10.03.01 means Personals.Financials.Credit cards.

The numbers mean nothing other than the values you give them. Therefore, keeping an index of those numbers and what they mean is the system’s core. It is important to understand the analogy between a paper filing system and the Johnny Decimal System.

If I am going on a trip, I’ll have a paper folder to put brochures and other paper documents in. I’ll put the folder in a filing cabinet according to its number sequence. It is the same with my digital system so the link to my digital credit card statement goes under the folder name in my JD Index.

To avoid confusion. in the [[JD System]] you assign the numbers. In the Dewy Decmal System the numbering system is fixed and you have to choose what number to put on the book. Both systems work. Use what works best for you.

If you are interested, You can buy the User manual, written by the developer of the system, at Hubstack. Or, contact me at bsager42@gmail.com with specific questions. I write about the risks we face and how we can deal with them. I write about obtaining financial independence because it takes money to prepare for catastrophes. I write about our environment because we are an integral part of our ecosystems.

Resilence

I believe Resilience requires us to be good at three things:

Our personal growth and the skills we develop

Our financial resilience. We must be able to pay our bills and respond to emergencies.

The quality of the environment we live in.

Planning for the future

I look at trends and try to predict what we must do to prosper in the future. My predictions for what will happen tomorrow are much better than for what will happen ten years in the future. I'm 93. One thing I can predict with near certainty; I won't be here in ten years. I have a short time to leave my legacy in this world. Another thing I am sure of is we cannot plan our future based on the past. The world is changing too fast.

I try to live by the words of the Dalli Lama, "Help where you can; where you can't help be careful not to hurt."

Enjoy your trip through life

Life is an adventure. Enjoy every moment on your journey on your River of Life. Enjoy the rapids and portage around the waterfalls. Join me in our adventures on our River of Life.

Help

Paragraph is new to me. I can write and I have figured out how to publish this post. I have a lot to learn about the W3 stuff that is available here. Can anyone tell me how to set up my mailing list?

Published to Paragraph 231113

In every life, there are moments of memory that stand out sharp and clear. For me, one such moment is December 7, 1941. It was a bright, cold, clear morning in Oregon. One of those winter days when an interior high-pressure cell pushes strong, creating a dry, cold wind down the Columbia River Gorge and into the Willamette Valley.

I was sitting in our 39 Mercury sedan listening to the radio while my folks attended church. Suddenly, the Glen Miller Band was interrupted by an announcement, "Pearl Harbor is under attack by the Japanese." I went into the church.

During a break in the service, I told my folks that Pearl Harbor had been bombed. I didn’t understand their grim reaction. I was only eleven.

In the spring of 1941, President Roosevelt defined the values of this country. He spoke of four freedoms. They became the freedoms I was raised to believe in:

The Four Freedoms

Freedom of every person to worship in their own way.

Freedom from want

Freedom from fear

Freedom of Speach

For a long time, I believed these were the values our country would work to achieve both at home and around the world. For me, the four freedoms symbolized what humanity fought so hard to secure during World War II.

I remember when I went back to school after Christmas vacation. My Japanese friend was not there. I asked my mom, " What happened to him?" She said that he had been evacuated to a camp where he could be protected from retaliation. It made sense, but I didn't like it. And of course, I later learned that she was mistaken.

During the war, we knew that American prisoners were not treated well by either the Japanese or Germans. However, I was proud that Americans treated their prisoners well. The Geneva Convention meant something important. We stood for a higher standard than the enemy.

I also remember that when America dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima my reaction was, “Good, now my cousins can come home alive.” When Japan did not surrender, I couldn't wait for us to drop another bomb.

It wasn't until the fall of 1945 that Wade, my Japanese friend, was again able to sit behind me in homeroom class. I said, “Hi, welcome back.” He stayed one of my best friends through high school. He remained so till the day he died.

A few years ago, I visited him in Washington, DC. He told me then how much my friendship had meant to him as a scared kid returning from five years in an internment camp.

The end of World War II was an exciting time. We competed with Russia, spreading our values around the world. President Kennedy asked us to consider what we could do for our country. He set up the Peace Corps.

President Johnson initiated the War on Poverty. America was actively working, through the United Nations and in other ways, to improve the lives of folks at home and around the world.

Of course, at the same time, the CIA was overthrowing fledgling democracies around the world and setting up dictatorships that opposed communism. For years, I didn't believe the rumors, but those rumors have turned out to be facts.

Today, near the tail end of my life, my country seems to have lost its way. In the name of the “War on Terror,” we have surrendered many of our freedoms. People use the term “War on Terror” to skew the checks and balances inherent in our constitution in favor of the Executive Branch.

We don't need an overly empowered and secretive executive branch to protect our freedoms. What we need is an extremely informed, coordinated, and well-funded intelligence service coupled with an extremely informed, coordinated, and well-funded police service.

I can accept that the war in Afghanistan was justified. After all, Afghanistan supported Al-Qaeda, a force that declared war on America long before September Eleven. However, our overthrow of the Iraq regime had nothing to do with terrorism. Based upon internal reports released to the public after the invasion, it seems pretty clear that Osama Bin Laden and Sudam Hussain were well-known enemies.

Mr. Bush said we must fight "them" over there, or they will follow us home.

Remember, it took less than two dozen individuals to destroy the World Trade Center. When we understand that it takes only a couple of dozen people to create a great tragedy, we may begin to understand the true dimensions of what we are fighting.

A terrorist cell can strike anywhere, whenever they choose to do so. Most of the time, only good police work can stop them Terrorism is a worldwide phenomenon. We must fight it in the same way we fight the war on drugs. In fact, drugs often finance terrorism. Only effective police work, coordinated worldwide, will help us minimize terrorist activities.

We have to recognize that the war on terror will continue as long as there are fanatics willing to kill and die. Moreover, if we give away any of our freedoms based upon a war that may never end, the terrorists inevitably win.

My country no longer follows the Geneva Conventions with regard to certain prisoners. They claim that we do not torture these prisoners because they have a new definition of torture. According to them, torture is something that causes death or the loss of a limb.

Despite what they claim, America is currently authorizing the same torture techniques used by the Spanish Inquisition. Waterboarding was torture in the fifteen hundreds, and it is torture now.

If anyone had told me when I was young that the Vice President of the United States would be lobbying Congress for a bill that authorizes torture, I would have said he was crazy; but that is exactly what Vice President Cheney did.

Remember that what we allow our government to do to one person, it may eventually do to us. When a foreign citizen can be declared an enemy combatant and be shipped to a foreign country for torture, what does that say about our country? When torture is acceptable in a black prison of the CIA, how long will it be before it's acceptable in police interrogations anywhere in this country?

It seems that anyone who disagrees with the policies of the administration is branded a traitor. However, disagreement is at the heart of our First Amendment. Disagreement is fundamental to our basic freedoms.

Americans are told that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but under this administration, a person can be branded a traitor, imprisoned, held incommunicado, denied access to attorneys, refused judicial review, and be subject to torture without any explanation from our Executive Branch.

I think of my eleven-year-old friend, Wade, who was interned for years because he lived in a country surrounded by fear. If they can throw away his freedom for years, who else can they do it to? If they can brand a man a traitor without proof of law, what does America stand for?

I originally wrote this during the George W Bush Administration. We have since seen a power-hungry, corrupt autocrat push this country to the brink of a fascist dictatorship.

Democracy is fragile. We need to stand up for the values of this country. The four freedoms are a good place to start.

Subscribe
