This project serves as a playground for individual and collaborative creativity, inviting you as an artist to leave your mark on an ever-expanding canvas.

The main piece of the collection fuses all of these submissions into one singular artwork, while you can either receive the individual submission to your wallet or let us auction them off as a collective. The main piece will remain in the possession of the collective and be managed and governed by the community for the foreseeable future.

Theme and Process

Unknown Connections as a theme was chosen as it mirrors both the crypto ethos and the creation process itself.

The collection is set up in such a way that new creations build upon what came before, diversifying the styles and interpretations while giving new meaning to the whole.

We don’t know and might never know who will collect our artwork. We don’t know today who will participate in this creative process, who will build upon our submission and how they will interpret what was minted before. We don’t know how this collection will evolve, or for how long.

All doors are open. Tomorrow will gift context to today.

If you’re an artist interested in participating in this project you will be assigned a tile that’s adjacent to previously submitted artwork by other creators, and asked to create a piece that seamlessly integrates with those works.

After your work has been submitted, we will:

• Mint your piece as part of the collection

• Credit you as the creator in the metadata

• Send it to your wallet OR set up an auction (your choice)

• Add your work to the main canvas

• Airdrop you $BLNK tokens for governance

• Unlock access/update your discord role to the artist only channels

Auction and Royalties

As stated above, the individual contributions (tiles) will be either auctioned off at a yet to be announced minimum bid, or transferred to your wallet if you so choose. Every artist will be able to choose one or the other for their own submission.

If you allow us to set up an auction or initial sale for your piece, you will receive 90% of the sales price, with 10% being kept by the collective to keep future mints going. You will also receive 100,000 $BLNK token.

If you choose to receive the minted NFT of your artwork instead, you will receive that NFT and $50,000 BLNK token.

In both cases, resale royalties will go toward the collective treasury to keep the project self-sufficient. This allows us to lower the barrier to entry for anyone interested in participating, by continuously covering minting fees through our treasury.

The amounts of $BLNK received will be adapted regularly to ensure that we don’t run out of tokens to distribute to new artists. The new amounts will be voted on by the community.

The $BLNK token is an ERC20 token on Polygon and serves as an access and governance token for the BLNK Collective. The token can be shared freely and used to invite new artists to the collective, facilitating organic growth, curation and moderation of the community.

Manifold Smart Contract

The smart contract for this collection has been set up using manifold.xyz, ensuring that we have full control over the contract and can work independently of any platforms.

Manifold allows us to continuously mint and manage the NFT collection and to decentralize the storage of our artwork using arweave. The contract and therefore the NFTs was minted on the Ethereum blockchain.

The ownership of the contract is already transferred to our community (multisignature) wallet. Admin rights can only be set for individual wallets and not multisignatures at the moment, which necessitates nominating and voting for trustworthy individual members of the community to take care of the minting process.

As soon as Manifold allows for access through WalletConnect, we will migrate the admin rights to the community wallet as well, ensuring that no one individual has complete control over the collection.

The DAO

The BLNK Collective DAO will be formed to govern and manage the collection by the community. Voting power and ownership claims will be distributed in the form of the $BLNK governance token on the Polygon network. Polygon was chosen to make blockchain interactions as accessible, cheap and eco-friendly as possible, in turn lowering the barrier to entry for newcomers and veterans alike.

Voting Power

The token will allow us to vote on proposals ranging from artist invites, new partnerships, artwork exhibitions and promotions, as well as DAO roles and responsibilities.

Some of the most important votes will include multisig-signer roles and access to the NFT smart contract for minting and maintenance purposes.

Token ownership will furthermore be tied with certain roles and access management within our community Discord server and other future platforms, and could be used to restrict or enable access to other upcoming collections or partnerships.

Social Currency

Going with a token instead of a membership NFT gives us the opportunity to grow organically and distribute fractional ownership and voting power between all members. By enabling members to freely distribute any amount of tokens in their possession, we create a truly invite-only system in which every individual member has a say in the growth of the community.

Beyond ownership and voting power, this additional utility turns the $BLNK token into a social currency through which we can reward individual contributors on a granular level while maintaining the freedom to be as much or as little involved as they choose.

Rug & Whale Protection

In contrast to many NFT and DAO projects, BLNK Collective is set up for slow, long-term organic growth. The $BLNK token will only be acquired through invites, contributions and member-to-member distribution.

There are no official $BLNK liquidity pools or token sales planned at this point in time. This serves to further disincentivize speculation or any expectations of profit. It means that nobody can simply buy up a significant amount of voting power in one go, provided members don’t voluntarily put their tokens up for sale. This also serves to provide an inherent protection against “rugs”, as the DAO will only hold the funds received from sales and royalties to keep the minting process self-sufficient.

We aim to create value for and not profit off of our members and community.

Discord Access

The BLNK Collective Discord is open to anyone who wants to join us on our journey. Some of the channels will be accessible to token owners only, so that members and artists can chat amongst themselves. In order to unlock those channels, members will need to verify their wallets using our CollabLand Bot.

There will also be additional roles that reflect other aspects of the membership, including but not limited to collector status for those who own an Unknown Connection NFT and specialized roles reflecting the representative status of individual members.

The only way to become a full member of the BLNK Collective is by acquiring tokens that unlock your access and voting power. This can happen in many different ways:

The BLNK Collective is an experimental community for creators and collectors who want to get familiar with NFTs and web3 technologies.

We seek to lower the barrier to entry to the NFT space by providing an easy way to collaborate on a project, and by providing support and education for creators who want to start their own collections.

The main project of the collective is to create a generational NFT collection that is fully owned by the community, and that gives creators the opportunity to leave their mark on an evolving art piece.

Unknown Connections NFT Project

The Unknown Connections NFT collab will be the one of the ways that members can get involved in the BLNK Collective. The vision behind it is to create a living, evolving NFT project by incorporating the mechanics of the surrealist game exquisite corpse. Artists who are interested in participating will be assigned a tile on a grid, and create their artwork based on an adjacent piece without seeing the whole - thus making their mark on a collaborative, ever-expanding canvas.

The end result will be an evolving piece made up of each artist’s unique interpretations of this theme in their chosen style, created in remote and temporarily anonymous collaboration. Artists will be revealed to each other after they submit their piece. The 1/1 NFT canvas as well as the individual tiles are to be minted on the Ethereum Network.

This main collaborative piece will remain in the possession of the collective for the foreseeable future, governed and managed by the decisions of the community.

Mission

With the rapid rise of Crypto and NFTs in the public consciousness, it’s easy to feel discouraged and overwhelmed when trying to find out how to get started in this space. It’s even easier to fall for scams, forego basic security practices or feel pressured to invest and risk a significant amount of funds in the “next big thing”.

To combat that, we provide our members several avenues and initiatives to get engaged with the mechanics of the blockchain on their own terms.

These initiatives can be broadly categorized in the following key areas:

• hands-on experience

• continuous education

• promotion and exposure

We aim to provide positive experiences and development for all members, regardless of their skills or familiarity with web3 technologies.

$BLNK Token

The BLNK token is the governance token of our collective.

It will be distributed amongst artists and collaborators to ensure that everyone who participates in this project has a say in important governance decisions and access to future opportunities.

$BLNK will be used for votes on snapshot.org as well as for role distribution and access within our discord, enabling us to set up an organic curation and submission process for new artists.

Future Plans

For now, our focus is on the creation on the Unknown Connections NFT collab and the BLNK Collective DAO. We aim to do the groundwork and create the infrastructure needed for organic growth, focusing on quality and education wherever possible.

Educational Content

The creation and management of a wiki-like online handbook for beginners explaining the most important terminology, wallet management, processes and security settings. Creating an environment in which our members feel free to ask questions and get the support they need, and hopefully pay these gestures forward to new generations of entry-level members.

Exhibitions and Promotions

If we manage to acquire a surplus of funds from sales and royalties, the next logical step will be to invest some of these funds into membership NFTs that benefit the entire collective.
