While it took longer than anticipated to deploy, the focus was on creating a straightforward and accessible voting mechanism for all holders.

Three First Proposals

The first round of voting includes three proposals that will help moving forward (here):

Creative Commons Zero License
The first proposal addresses formally adopting the Creative Commons Zero license for all BlockyBulls collections.
Although this has been the informal approach from the beginning, making it official requires community input.
If approved, the website, social media 𝕏 account, and collection descriptions will be updated to reflect this decision.

GitHub Publication
The second proposal focuses on publishing the BlockyBulls website code on GitHub.
This would enable community members to propose updates, improvements, and new features through pull requests.
However, this decision requires careful consideration as public code access could potentially enable malicious actors to create deceptive clone sites.

Community Platform Consolidation
The third proposal aims to streamline community communications.
Currently, BlockyBulls community members are spread across Telegram, a private Twitter group, and Discord.
The proposal suggests consolidating these channels into a single Discord server, which already features integrated sales tracking and was initiated by community members.

Next Steps

These initial three proposals will remain open for voting for one week.
The level of participation and engagement with these polls will help determine the frequency and scope of future community votes.
All BlockyBulls NFT holders can participate in the voting process directly through the website (Vote)

The results of these votes will guide the next phase of development and community organization.
Future proposals may be introduced based on community participation levels in this first round of voting.

This change led to catching a cold, which impacted my usual development routine and social media activity for the BlockyBulls project.

Any Progress?

Since last time the main focus remains on implementing the polling feature for the BlockyBulls website.
After trying security and encryption features, I simplified the voting contract significantly, considering the current community engagement levels.
I might share the different polls with the encryption system deployed on testnet, if asked.

Some key questions planned for the upcoming polls may include:

• Transitioning the project to Creative Commons Zero, CC0 licensing

• Removing Telegram, and Twitter group to only focus on the community Discord

• Making the website source code publicly available on Github

• Migrating the current collection to a fully onchain NFT contract

The company, I work with, initially planned to end our contract by the end of this year, which would have given me more time to focus on BlockyBulls.
That was the plan.

However, they've since changed their mind and decided to extend our work together.
This change definitely affects my availability for BlockyBulls development.

It makes it harder to maintain the consistent progress while balancing other commitments.

When following a routine, maintaining momentum is manageable, but interruptions can make it challenging to resume the previous pace.

While no new features were deployed, this provided valuable time for reflection on the project's trajectory and future governance.

WE own the BlockyBulls

Since launching BlockyBulls, development has centered on creating small applications, companion collections, and tools to increase collection visibility.

As the creator holding 500 NFTs, building these extensions felt like a natural progression.However, I don’t see it getting more visibility moving forward.

Would love to transition from individual decision making to community governance.
Several decisions about the collection's future require broader input from token holders.

For instance, in the past, when seeking verification on Rarible, questions about licensing arose (checked today and it seems this requirement doesn’t exist anymore)
Still considering CC0, but such decisions should involve the active core community rather than a single voice.

Building a Voting System

𝕏 polls might seem like an expedient solution for community decisions, but they lack permanence.
Onchain voting provides a verifiable record of community decisions, allowing future reference and learning from past choices.

I highly value this as it becomes particularly important as the project grows and might face similar decisions over time.

Existing voting platforms like JokeRace all have the same primary issue, the hesitation of community members to connect their wallets to unfamiliar third party contracts.

What I look for is a system with a voting cards and anonymous voting that would be developed by the BlockyBulls.

I started developing something this Sunday on both the smart contracts and website integration for this new voting system, with the goal of launching the first community poll next week.

This system will enable progress on various initiatives, including the potential transition to fully onchain NFTs.

Technical Updates

Recent website updates included functionality to generate BlockyBull images based on specific characteristics and being able to download it.

However, the download feature currently faces compatibility issues with wallet embedded browsers.
Tested on MetaMask and Coinbase.

While I tried some solutions, none worked for now.
I’ll focus on the voting implementation and come back to it right after.

Base Community

Nothing will happen here for BlockyBulls…
Bangkok is currently hosting major blockchain events, including DevCon and the Based Around The World Meetup.
After missing the early sales, the DevCon tickets became quickly cost prohibitive for my budget. So I’ll not be able to attend this year.

Registered to the Based Around The World Meetup, but seems like space limitations led to prioritizing Base SEA builders and event participants.
Next time we’ll have to ship a project for the event.

Having established builders from the Base ecosystem join the community gives more credibility to the project, this is great to see.

Halloween Special

Though unplanned, Halloween inspired the creation of "Drakbulla," a special BlockyBull character.

The BlockyBulls Builder

A new BlockyBulls builder application now allows anyone to create custom bulls using existing attributes.

This tool emerged from developing the marketplace's filtering feature, addressing the need to preview different attribute combinations when searching for specific bulls.
And this must be integrated in the marketplace filtering for a better experience.

Special thanks to Virtuoz for reporting that the download button is not working in the wallet’s browser. I will work on this to find a way to handle these cases.

After purchasing 13 NFTs from various marketplaces to list on the BlockyBulls marketplace, I noticed an interesting market reaction.

Trying New Things

I started exploring the possibility of creating talking BlockyBulls using AI.
The initial concept involves developing an application where users can input text and watch their BlockyBull animate and speak the words.

While the current challenge lies in synchronizing the mouth movements with the voice, starting with preregistered text could be an option to simplify the initial implementation.

The idea for this voting system came from the buildathon idea.

The Marketplace

The BlockyBulls Marketplace is still operational, with recent fixes addressing various inconsistencies.

Users can list their BlockyBulls for sale on the platform.
As an example, I’ve listed BlockyBull #1 for 500 ETH.
While not the rarest, this bull represents the project's origins.

Talking about the Marketplace and the sales, the BlockyBulls Bot experienced downtime last week due to server updates and bug fixes related to Marketplace integration.
These issues have since been resolved, and the bot should now be catching up on OpenSea sales data.

A new BBS token has been created on artrun.io, after checking the artrun project suggested by Virtuoz.

This week focuses on the launch of a new marketplace feature and other improvements to the project's website.

Website Updates

The homepage has undergone small changes.
The BBverse page link has been removed, but the small interactive experiences remain at the bottom of the page.

Two new sections have been added, first the Top Sales:

This section showcases the highest sales of BlockyBulls NFTs.
It's initialized with data from OpenSea and will be updated with information from both OpenSea and the new marketplace.

And the current listings one, this area displays items currently for sale on the BlockyBulls marketplace.
It aims to provide a straightforward way for users to see quickly see some of the listed items on the website marketplace.

The bottom of the homepage now features sections for articles and previous BBverse experiences, allowing interested users to delve deeper into the project's history.

My Herd

A new account page has been added to the website.
When users connect their wallets, they can access a "My Herd" link at the top of the homepage.

This link leads to a page displaying all the BlockyBulls NFTs owned by the connected account.
Users can also view other accounts' holdings by changing the address in the URL.

Our Collections

The Collections tab provides an overview of all BlockyBulls collections.
Clicking on a collection leads to its details page, where you can:

• View all items in the collection

• Sort BlockyBulls items by attributes

• See ownership distribution statistics (Only for the BlockyBulls collection)

An "OnSale" tab within each collection page shows all items currently listed for sale.

New Marketplace Feature

The most significant update is the introduction of a dedicated marketplace for BlockyBulls NFTs.
This feature allows users to trade their NFTs directly through the website without any platform fees.

To list an item for sale:

1. Navigate to the NFT's details page

2. Approve the marketplace contract to handle your BlockyBulls NFTs

3. Click the "Create Listing" button (only visible to the NFT's owner)

While there's currently no user interface for creating or viewing bids, users familiar with smart contracts can interact with them directly.
Will work on that later.

The Attributes

For the main BlockyBulls collection, a new page has been added that lists all attributes, their rarity, and the number of items per attribute.
This feature helps us understand the uniqueness of their NFTs.

Any Future Plans?

The immediate focus is on refining the marketplace feature and improving the project's statistics tracking.
The BlockyBulls bot is being updated to store contract events and provide real time updates.

Additionally, I have plans to participate in the BaseSea Buildathon with a small idea that will be use by the project.

Now we are a free mint collection, with no creator fees nor marketplace fees.

Marketplace Development

Back on chain, the main focus remains on developing a small Marketplace for BlockyBulls.

The goal is to create a platform where users can trade BlockyBulls without paying any platform fees.This fits in with the BlockyBulls collection idea of charging nothing to mint and having no royalties.

Progress on the marketplace has been steady.

An account page has been created, allowing users to view all their owned BlockyBulls NFTs (BlockyBulls, Based Snout, Beyond The Block, Honorary).

Additionally, a detailed page for individual NFTs has been developed, which includes rarity information for BlockyBulls.

Over the weekend, integration with the thirdweb marketplace contract began.These developments are laying the groundwork for a cost effective trading platform for the BlockyBulls community!

Expansion to New Platforms

Speaking of marketplaces, tradeport.xyz has started supporting the Base chain.

This means BlockyBulls are now visible on their platform.Tradeport provides a useful service by showing the value of NFTs on OpenSea, MagicEden, and Tradeport simultaneously.

Here's something I really want to do.

I'm planning to make our own small marketplace for BlockyBulls.
The mint was free, and there are no royalties.

So I don't think it's fair for the marketplaces to take a cut when you trade.
I hope to work on that next weekend!

In an effort to boost the visibility of the project, I reached out to OpenSea about the BlockyBulls collection's absence from the top PFPs collection on Base.

Surprisingly, it seems there are some mysterious factors at play. Despite other collections with no volume making the cut, we're still working our way up.
This shows that even if you show up everyday and have a growing volume, you can remain invisible if major platforms don't shine their spotlight on you.

A New Floor and Rising Volume

Speaking of working our way up, I'm happy to announce that BlockyBulls has reached a new floor price of 0.0004 ETH!

While this might seem small, this is another milestone.
Even more exciting is our volume, which is on the verge of hitting 1 ETH.

For a collection with such an accessible price point, this is no small feat.

The BlockyBullsBot

One of our community members had a great idea, create a 𝕏 bot to track OpenSea buys. On the community Discord there already is bot thanks to the Indexer team, now adding this to 𝕏 will help the project reach even more people!

The journey to create this bot was a learning experience in itself.
Initially, I experimented with Alchemy webhooks and serverless functions, but ran into some limitations.
So it was time to invest in a dedicated server that would be up 24/7, listening to OpenSea events.
It's currently running as the BlockyBullsBot, and I'm excited to see how I can leverage this new server in the future.

The OG Custom Background App

In the spirit of continuous improvement, the CustomBackground app has been updated to fetch NFTs owned directly from OpenSea.

This change addresses the limitations faced with the NFTDrop contract used for BlockyBulls, which didn't have a straightforward method for listing owned assets.

Previously, the app had to loop through all 5,5k items in the collection, which was time consuming and bumped up against ThirdWeb API limitations.

The new version is significantly faster and more convenient, paving the way for future projects.

Building, Finding the Balance

I've always believed that creation is a cyclical process.
Sometimes you're in a frenzy of activity, other times you need to step back and recharge.

This week, I'm in that recharging phase, getting ready to dive back into the balance of web2 days and web3 late nights next week.

Community Canvas

Remember that community canvas idea I mentioned?
Well, last week, I dove into it headfirst.

The concept was to create a 16x16 canvas where people could purchase pixels and we'd all draw together. Users could even take snapshots of the canvas state, creating new NFTs.

But as I implemented the UI, something felt off.
I reviewed and revised multiple times, but the spark, again, just wasn't there.
Sometimes, you have to know when to let an idea go, or at least, keep it on the side.

While the community canvas might not be right for now, it could be interesting for a future short term event.

Bubbly and Bullish . Another Late-Night Creation

After giving up the canvas, I just had to create something.

Enter a playful experience where you can randomly uncover a BlockyBull by moving your mouse / finger over simple circles.
It's highly inspired by the koalastothemax website, and while it's not built onchain, it's oddly satisfying.

I lost myself for hours that night, unveiling BlockyBulls one after the other.

You know how we all love seeing our drawings come to life?
Well, I've been working on the small game that'll bring our PFPs into a whole new dimension with a full mini body!
I've always wanted to create an app where we could see our BlockyBulls in action, and this game is the perfect opportunity.

Now, I'll be honest, I've never made a web game before, let alone one with onchain capabilities.
It's a learning curve, but that's what motivates me!
Last weekend, I got the wallet connection working properly and animated the BTB characters!

Other Projects

Remember when I mentioned talking with the OpenSea support on getting an API key for the "Mood2NFT" project?
Well, I took that opportunity to ask if they could recalculate the BlockyBulls rarity based on non burned items.

Turns out, they couldn't… so I finally did it!

You can head over to the BlockyBulls website, and you'll find a little app that gives us the right rarity rank for our NFTs.
It's based on OpenSea's calculation, just minus the burnt items.

But the big collections out there?
They brought something new to the table, united people, or were backed by well connected people.

That's what I wish to see for the BlockyBulls!

A Missed Opportunity?

The BasedSnout concept went through different iteration, all involved around colors.
During this process, I stumbled upon something similar to the newly Soulbounds project by Apex777.eth.

I wondered, "Who'd buy a set of colors representing their address if they can't sell or use it?"
Turns out, it depends on who's behind it and it's great to see such ideas gaining traction!

But this give me the reinforcement that the ideas are good, the name of the project is just not out there yet to gain that much traction.

The Next Idea

While BlockyBulls offers cheaper BasedSnout, holders of BasedSnout and Beyond The Block don't have much to do with their NFTs.

I've always loved well animated 2D games, but I'm no artist or game designer.
Quality takes time, which is not optimal in this fast paced space.
In the end, even the best indie games need proper “marketing” to succeed.

So, let's try to keep it “simple”.

The Concept

Picture this, a single map/level game with two parts.
The first part's open to everyone, while the second, more challenging part is exclusive to NFT holders.

Players can choose from 5 characters:
A default BlockyBull NFT and the 4 BTB NFTs.
To play with BTB characters, there's a one time fee that goes straight to the Beyond the Block NFT owner.
My way of giving back to supporters.

In the second part, players can wear a BasedSnout to register their best time onchain.
They can even race against a ghost wearing the BasedSnout of the current record holder.

This way, every part of the project gets some utility.
Well, except for Snout levels 1, 2, and 3, they're still just there to support what I built, for now.

The Engine

I'll be using Godot for development.
I've used it before for a Flappy Bird inspired mobile game.
Might not be live anymore as I didn’t keep it up to date.

This weekend, I refreshed my skills and managed to create a map with a NFT gated system.

The game will run in web browsers, I can't expect people to download a mobile app just yet.

Other Project, Just for Fun: Mood2NFTs

During the week, I played with AI and remembered someone making a mood2movies concept.
I thought, why not mood2NFTs?
Using the OpenSea API, I fetched data on most NFT projects and asked an AI to assign a mood to each based on their title and description.
It's a small project, but I think it could fit nicely into the BBverse.

The idea of the BlockyBulls have always been, for me, to be able to learn and build diverse projects and experiences.

The Genesis of BasedSnout

Inspiration from OnChainSummer

When OnChainSummer kicked off, I was asked to showcase BlockyBulls.
However, with the collection already minted out, it didn't offer much for newcomers.

So the goal was simple create a simple app that leverages the existing BlockyBulls collection.

My initial concepts included a chain of NFTs and a mosaic idea, but these didn't quite capture the essence of BlockyBulls or embody the spirit of being "bullish".

I spent a lot of time on those, but I also learned quite a lot.

The Eureka Moment

Inspiration struck when I discovered the Waveform project by Apex777.eth, which showed me the feasibility of storing NFTs onchain using SVGs.

This opened up new possibilities for me and was aligned with what I had in mind for the BlockyBulls collection before releasing it.

Each minter can create up to four unique Snouts, with increasing prices for each mint.

Building Always

BasedSnout represents my first self developed contract deployed on the mainnet, marking a significant milestone in my journey as a developer and creator in the Web3 space.

I'm curious to see how the BasedSnout collection evolves, whether people will trade them, hold onto their unique creations or just fade it.
This project is just the beginning of what I hope will be a series of projects, made by me or any BlockyBulls believers!

To get that highlight, I really want to push out a new small project.

The Based Mosaic Detour

I spent last weekend and my Saturday working on this idea called the Based Mosaic.

The concept was simple:
People create color palettes, and others generate random 8x8 mosaics using those palettes.
All the fees would go to the palette creators, and BlockyBulls holders could create palettes for free.
And everything would be onchain.

But as I worked on it, doubts crept in.

Would anyone really want to create color palettes? Would they pay for it?
Moreover the connection to BlockyBulls felt weak, and I started to question if this was the right path.

So I decided to try something else.
I will keep everything I’ve done on the side might be useful one day.

The Snout Project: A New Direction

Inspired by the Waveforms project by apex777.eth, I came up with the Snout project.

This idea feels more connected to BlockyBulls, as the snout is part of the current collection.

The twist?
Each snout's colors are determined by the wallet address of the minter.
Some will look awesome, others not so much, but that's part of the fun!

You'll be able to mint up to four snouts per address, with each subsequent mint evolving the snout.

And the best part?
It's all onchain, which was my original vision for BlockyBulls (Need to work on that in the future)

Learning from past experiences, the mint won't be free to reduce bot activity.

Prices will start at 0.001 ETH for the first snout and increase for each additional mint.
BlockyBulls holders get a sweet discount, starting at 0.0001 ETH.
And for the early Blocky Bullievers, I'll take a snapshot of current BlockyBulls holders and whitelist them for a free first snout mint.

The Road Ahead

I believe in this project's potential.
If the first BlockyBulls believers mint their snouts for free and share them, it could attract more attention to the main collection.

While I didn't release anything on Sunday as planned, I believe this new direction has more promise.
I'll try to work on it a bit each day to finalize the project and create the webpage for it.

Next Idea, The Small Game

After releasing the Mario and Luigi BlockyBulls NFTs, I'm thinking of creating a simple web game.
Picture a 2D platformer where you can play as these characters, with plans to include all the Beyond The Block NFTs.
Non holders could "rent" characters to play for a small fee, which would go to the NFT owners.

Still just an idea for now.

Time…

I've got many ideas in head, but time is always in short supply.
However, that could change by the end of the year.
I'll keep you posted on how things develop!

As the week kicked off, I got an interesting collab with BasedDinos.

Leaving a BlockyBulls Mark on the Ecosystem

Sharing is caring, and it's also a fantastic way to participate in the ecosystem.

Take the moshicam project, for instance. It felt so cool to add a BlockyBull to their community border. But it seems someone wasn't feeling quite as bullish and decided to cover up our sticker.
C'est la vie!

But still found a way to share a bit of that bullishness by sharing it!

Speaking of stickers, I embarked on a mall adventure, hoping to print some to put on my computer.
Turns out, it wasn't quite worth it for just one sticker.

Note to myself: dedicate some time to crafting cool stickers for various chat apps.
It's on the checklist, and if you guys want to make them don’t hesitate!

Beyond the Block Bulls: The Journey Continues

This Monday saw the birth of two new NFTs, sparked by a simple idea.

The idea was to have a contract loaded with ETH, claimable only by two owners if they activate a specific function within a set timeframe.

Ideas are flowing like a river, but time?
That's a whole different story.

These two new additions have also planted the seed for a mini game.
I'm toying with the idea of doing like the speedtracer project, allowing players to put their scores onchain, with all proceeds going straight to our BTB holders.

For now, these are just thoughts bouncing around in my mind, coupled with a burning desire to learn how to bring them to life.

But let’s focus to the current project.

The Based Mosaic

Now, let me paint you a picture of the project currently in development.

It started as an onchain reimagining of the library of Babel, but with images.
Thinking about it, it evolved into something I hope more exciting.

I don’t think I ever said it, but at the beginning I wanted to make the BlockyBulls fully onchain. But to ease the delivery I just went with a regular NFT contract.
Now, I've got a second chance to create my first fully onchain project.

The project:
Design and mint your unique color palette, which others can use to generate mosaics. By creating a palette, you're not just making art, you're establishing a new contract that others can interact with, potentially earning fees from their mosaic creations. Or, if you prefer, dive right in and mint a randomly generated mosaic using palettes crafted by our community.
Everything is on-chain, based, and bullish!

The dream?
To showcase this project in the onchain registry and maybe even catch Coinbase's eye.

But wait, what about BlockyBulls?
No worries there!
The plan is to give BlockyBulls owners a leg up in any future sub-projects. For this one, each BlockyBull could unlock the ability to create a three colors palette.
Without a BlockyBulls people will still be able to create a palette for a fee of 0.01 ETH.

Indirectly I’m giving a value of 0.01 to a BlockyBulls.
Who knows? This little project might just shine a spotlight on them!

Community First: 0% for the Creator

In an interesting turn of events, I'm no longer the top holder of the collection.
With 498 out of the initial 500 set aside, I've been dethroned!

I'm eager to hear from the new top holder – where do they envision this project heading?

While getting the collection out there is crucial, supporting other projects is equally important.

I've engaged with MoshiCam, a project allowing users to store memories on chain in a polaroid format. As a photography enthusiast, I find this concept fascinating.
I’ve even contributed a little BlockyBulls touch to their community border.

Another project that caught my attention is Based Minecraft, a play-to-earn version of the popular game on Base.
It brings back memories and given that BlockyBulls are 16x16 pixelated bulls with a blocky aesthetic, it felt natural to recreate one in Minecraft.

Seeing how cool it is now I wonder what a full 3D versions of BlockyBulls would look like.

Reflecting and Evolving

Thinking about all the project featured during onchainsummer, launching BlockyBulls two weeks later at the start of it could have been a game changer.
But every experience is a lesson learned.

I've been toying with the idea of creating a chain of BBulls, allowing comments and node trading. However, I realized this concept might not align perfectly with onchainsummer and the goal of onboarding new people to the ecosystem.

As the saying goes, "Fail fast and learn." While I'll keep the chain idea on the side, I pivoted to work on a new project.
This initiative aims to be more inclusive, allowing anyone to join while offering something for BlockyBulls holders.
As always, I want to keep the BBulls at the heart of all the small projects.

Community-led Discord Server

Following a Twitter space event, plutus_nft reached out about implementing the indexer verification for the BlockyBulls collection.

Giveaways and Community Engagement

To get more interest, giveaways always seem to be the way to go.

Recently, a Micromigos NFT was offered.
While these giveaway may not be driving as much attention as before, it remains a valuable tool for engagement.
The next giveaway will feature a BearPunks NFT.
However in the future I’ll potentially limit the giveaways to holders only with the idea to reward holders.

To cheap to be good?

The perception of NFT value often correlates with price.

A graphic by wale.moca on Twitter illustrated how the same NFT could be viewed differently based on its price point. And I totally agree with that.

While it is important to keep prices accessible, I think that a price that is too low could have an impact on the perception that people may have.
It's definitely a point to address.

Technical Challenges: The NFT Chain Project

Behind the scenes, I faced technical issue on the website while updating it with the latest Thirdweb SDK.

These challenges have provided valuable learning experiences but didn’t bring anything to the project.

As a tech, I love it but I don’t feel like it helps the project moving forward.
Once done, I’ll definitely focus on the community and the content creation.

Balancing Web3 and Real Life

Recently, family commitments led to a busy weekend, disconnecting me from web3.

While it felt refreshing, I didn’t get much rest.
But spending time with the one you love and those who need you is perhaps the most important thing in the world.

So I finally touch grass which was perfectly aligned with the campaign launched by Base after the Buildathon.

From Idea to Reality (Almost)

A few weeks back, I had this idea of creating a chain where people could add their own BlockyBull "node" with a bullish quote.

It sounded cool at first, but then doubt started creeping in.
Other ideas seemed more interesting.

With the Base Buildathon deadline approaching, I realized I needed to just pick something and run with it.

So, I revisited the chain idea.

The concept was “simple”: a chain of 5,5k nodes made of a PFP and a message.
Each claimable by a BlockyBull owner, with the option to add other collections later.
People could even create custom Base logos using a part of the chain.

Easier said than done.

Diving back into smart contract development was a steep learning curve.
Setting up the development environment and testing everything locally took way longer than expected.

By Sunday night, it was clear I wouldn't finish everything before the deadline.

While it was disappointing, it's not a defeat.
I'll dedicate next weekend to work on the project.
