“The original idea came years ago,” the founder shares. “A good friend of mine and I were joking about an easy way to let people know you’re ready to mingle. Q: What does “business development” mean to you in the context of a decentralized organization like ApeCoin DAO?

Business development and ecosystem growth are critical drivers for any organization, decentralized or not.

Given the recent governance and structural changes at ApeCoin DAO, and with ApeChain now live, I still view us very much as a startup on the verge of a rapid growth phase. That’s why having a passionate core team of closers ready to get the ball from executive leadership is exciting — from brand partnerships and gaming integrations to dApps and the gritty work of securing major exchange listings for ApeChain adoption.

Q: What past experiences or achievements best demonstrate your ability to build meaningful partnerships or scale growth?

I came into Web3 as a Marketing Management student with experience in sales. Prior to that, I was deeply involved in Canada’s legal cannabis industry, guiding corporations through some of the toughest licensing processes in the country while serving as a public advocate for legalization.

As a twice-elected ApeCoin DAO Governance Working Group Steward, I co-founded the APE_U education program and helped onboard partners like OpenCampus and UMA Protocol. Since stepping away from an official role, I’ve continued to introduce new deals to the Banana Bill, two of which are launching on ApeChain. I co-hosted an ApeChain hackathon in Hong Kong, flown to Manila to speak on ApeChain at Jbond’s Dookie Dash event during the YGG Play Summit, and been onboarding NFT project founders from other chains.

Q: If elected, how would you prioritize different types of BD opportunities—web3 native projects, traditional companies, gaming studios, or creators? Why?

Well, these roles are being structured under the APE Foundation executive team, so aligning with them to identify priority areas will be critical before getting going.

A key lesson from the old Working Group structure is that too much autonomy can lead to fragmented workflows and misaligned goals. So after establishing a unified direction, we can start prioritizing as a unit.

Q: What’s one BD play you think the DAO has missed so far—and how would you approach it differently?

We’re not doing enough in Asia, where the opportunities are massive. I’d look to ramp up media outreach and ensure protocols on ApeChain align with a strong, cohesive brand identity. I think a dedicated BD team member should also be owning media relations to help shape the public narrative outside of our existing user base.

I bring a deep network of urban connections that would be interesting to begin activating as well, from skateboarding to the graffiti world – where a lot of streetwear brands are propagating out of.

Q: What role do you see ApeChain playing in the broader web3 landscape in the next 1-2 years?

Bored Apes should always play a central role in the NFT ecosystem, and by extension, Web3 as a whole. And while ApeChain is certainly for everyone, the BAYC brand recognition will always be a core advantage. That said, we can’t afford to miss the mark on becoming the culture chain we claim to be, where achieving this is easier said than done because as we know from living inside this NFT bubble, many of us involved in passionate subcultures tend to put up walls when outsiders and / or brands want in.

Q: What specific tools, incentives, or programs would you propose to attract builders, creators, and users to ApeChain?

Well, it comes up a lot that we need an incubator model, given my history as a serial entrepreneur with a passion for empowering our ecosystem through education and training, I would absolutely love to help establish it through APE_U. I also see real opportunity in rallying the MBA licensees to get involved with these efforts, particularly by helping transition their businesses to ApeChain wherever possible.

Q: If you had the power to execute one major deal or initiative for ApeChain tomorrow, what would it be and why?

Definitely a major exchange partnership, ideally in a jurisdiction which will allow us to be bold with it. I also have several culture-driven campaign ideas ready to activate.

Q: How do you plan to ensure long-term, sustainable value for ApeCoin holders through BD efforts?

Execution. With me, you get someone who doesn’t have an off switch. I'm wired to outwork most people, which doesn’t mean that I believe longer hours automatically leads to better results, but understanding when to push, how to prioritize, and staying relentless is what has driven much of my successes, so I'm sticking with it ha.

Q: What is your strategy for balancing hype-driven partnerships with foundational ecosystem growth?

Long-term deals like exchange listings require persistence and patience, but deliver perpetual value. Hype-driven partnerships have their place too, but we need them to be intentional as part of a larger strategy. Timing with these is also important, as trends can shift quickly.

Q: How do you see the DAO’s role evolving as ApeChain matures?

Well, it's no secret that the DAO has been a pretty big honeypot to those who knew how to unlock it for a while now, which in the end is going to come at the expense of real builders who could have actually delivered. And really, when we look deeper at that trend, it hasn't just limited opportunities, it's impacted our token price, integrity, and overall reputation in the broader DAO space. This needs to change — so seeing Yuga get more involved has been a breath of fresh air for a lot of the community, including myself.

Q: What kind of builder, project, or creator gets you personally excited to connect with?

Winning over creators who were initially skeptical of ApeChain is always a great feeling. And since the Working Groups wrapped up, I’ve onboarded several project founders to ApeChain for their launches, and would love to continue in that capacity. I also have strong ties to a variety of purist digital art communities, and would be excited to help make ApeChain feel as culturally relevant and “cool” to them as it does to us – as the home of NFTs.

Q: A year from now, how would you define success?

Success is definitely a team thing, and I want to see everyone winning because when we all win, the ecosystem wins. And when the ecosystem wins, ApeChain wins. But to be more specific, my primary goals will include locking in major exchange partnerships, helping to plan / execute at least one major IRL activation, and landing at least two big culture-driven plays. Plus founders. More NFT project founders!

Q: Why are you the right person for this role right now?

Made for this, and after bringing a variety of BD and ecosystem growth initiatives to the APE Foundation over the course of the last nine or ten months, I'm looking for a shot.

I also have no dependents and can travel as needed. No hidden agendas, no outside companies I’d prioritize over ApeChain, and I’m not a founder of any protocol already building here who will be advocating for the chain as-is.

I view this as a full-time role working on behalf of everyone building on ApeChain — not just us. Because if they fail, we fail.

Q: What strengths or relationships do you bring that will directly benefit the DAO?

I see BD as serving the whole ecosystem, including ApeChain builders. So I will be taking the time to know each protocol so that I can pitch our story accurately and be able to point leads to our success stories.

The story of Bush Babies begins in early 2021. “I got into NFTs out of boredom and curiosity. Uganda had just gone into its second lockdown, and I suddenly had time to explore,” says the founder. “I’ve always been drawn to art,” the artist behind ValleA shares, “even if I kept it more as a passion than a profession.” Like many digital creatives, their first spark ignited with Photoshop. That spark turned into a slow-burning flame fueled by photo editing, video, 3D modeling, and storytelling. But it wasn’t until the rise of Web3 and collections like BAYC that the flame roared into a fire.

It was the launch of ApeChain, combined with a long-held artistic vision, that finally convinced this creator to embrace generative art fully. “It felt like a breath of fresh air in a space that had started to stagnate,” they said. “When you find a chain that feels alive—not just technically, but socially—it becomes the perfect home for a project like ValleA.”

Can you provide an overview of your upcoming NFT collection on Apechain?

The Coffee Collection is a collection of 1056 unique cups of coffee. Each trait has been hand illustrated by me over the course of about two years, resulting in literally tens of billions of possible combinations. The final 1056 pieces were curated to ensure each piece reflected the desired aesthetic of the collection.

What is the inspiration or theme behind your NFT collection?

The first cup of coffee that I drew was a derivative of Grant Yun’s iconic CC0 work, Cow. As an engineer who has spent many hours creating detailed 3D CAD models, I naturally gravitated towards Grant’s work and the precision-minimalist style that he popularized in the space. After creating this piece, entitled Coffee with Grant, I began to evolve the piece and use it as a template for developing my own style, using techniques like gradients, blurs, and highly-detailed elements not often found in Grant’s style. This piece became a canvas for exploring ideas and pushing my creativity within the constraints of a simple cup of coffee.

What sets your NFT collection apart from others in the market?

The Coffee Collection consists of nearly 200 different traits, each one meticulously illustrated as vector artwork. From simple colors and textures to highly-detailed patterns and accent elements, all were hand-drawn using a mouse and trackpad, striving for clean, crisp linework and subtle and unexpected details.

The traits were then fed into a custom-coded trait combinizer to randomly generate (within the defined rules) the layered artwork. Of the nearly 25 billion possible combinations, I hand- selected the 1056 pieces that made it into the final collection, ensuring that the overall aesthetics of each piece fit my vision for the project.

Can you describe the artistic style and mediums used in your NFTs?

My style is heavily influenced by Grant Yun’s precision-minimalist style, but includes techniques that are not often found in Grant’s work, such as gradients, blurring, and micro-details. I tried to develop a style that is fairly unique in the space while standing on the shoulders of the great artists out there.

The artwork for The Coffee Collection was created almost entirely in Adobe Illustrator using a simple mouse and trackpad. Some elements leveraged other tools, such as Photoshop and the new generative features within the Adobe suite.

Can you share your background as an artist and how you began your journey in digital art and NFTs?

My background is mechanical engineering, but I’ve always had a creative drive. My entry into digital art was using Photoshop for image editing and Premiere for making slideshows. I then started working in Illustrator to create posters, skateboard decks, and graphic elements, and really love the precise nature of this tool. Having spent nearly a decade working at a design agency with incredibly talented industrial and graphic designers, I picked up a thing or two and kept developing my Illustrator skills…always learning!

My first NFT was a gift given to me by a co-worker, a Forgotten Runes Wizard Cult wizard that I still hold.

What artistic influences or inspirations have shaped the visual style of your project on Apechain?

My biggest artistic influence in the space is Grant Yun. I love the simplicity and cleanliness of his work, which has gotten more and more detailed and complex over the past three years while still maintaining his iconic minimalist style. Every time a new artist comes on the scene mimicking his style, he changes it up and stays one step ahead!

Working at a design firm taught me that the most creative ideas are fueled by the tightest constraints. In my mind, there is nobody in the space that has embraced this more than Jack Butcher and his collections, particularly Checks and Opepen. He’s imposed constraints on these, but has shown that the possibilities even within these constraints is nearly limitless. His technique of changing the artwork for Checks on a daily basis (in the early days of the project) inspired The Coffee Collection with the idea of changing the cup of coffee over time. While I moved away from this idea, what I’ve enjoyed most in developing the artwork is the challenge that the constraints of a simple cup of coffee imposed.

How does your project reflect your personal artistic vision or style?

Being an engineer, my mind wants everything to be precise and pixel-perfect. I love clean lines and crisp details, and while The Coffee Collection is not without some flaws, its precision is a reflection of my personality and approach to art.

Can you walk us through your creative process when designing the artwork for your project?

The art has been a work-in-progress for almost two years, starting as a simple cup and evolving over time. Each time a new meta or meme hit the timeline, I loved thinking about how I could capture that meta or meme in my coffee cup. Each time I came across an artist whose work I like, or met someone in the space that was doing good things for NFTs and Web3 I thought about how I could pay tribute to that person in a cup of coffee. From Snofro’s Chromie Squiggles to Steve Bark, recipient of one of the Honorary Cups in the collection, inspiration can come from anywhere!

I also like thinking outside of the box: What would a wooden mug look like? A stone mug? A mug made of fabric? What would the rare traits of other collections, such as BAYC’s laser eyes or trippy fur, look like as a cup of coffee? What is the golden grail of The Coffee Collection?

My process is simple: let the inspiration come from anywhere, and then get to work visualizing it!

What themes or messages are you aiming to convey through your project's art?

The only idea I seek to convey through my art is that constraints drive creativity. Other than that, I just want to create dope art that will surprise and delight people.

How has working on Apechain influenced your approach to creating art or storytelling?

The low fees associated with Apechain enabled me to finally consider releasing this collection. I always wanted each NFT to be about the cost of a real cup of coffee, but the gas fees on Eth really don’t lend themself to minting a $5 piece of art. You’ll be 3x that in gas alone!

I’ve also included some fun ApeChain-related traits, such as the Ape Latte and the instantly- recognizable blue of ApeChain. A lot of project minting now are doing things like this and it creates a really vibrant and collaborative ecosystem where the artwork supports the chain and the chain supports the artists. ApeChain has really made NFTs fun again!

Are there any unique artistic techniques or technologies you employ in your project?

While I don’t use any tools and techniques that are unique, I use a blend of tools and techniques that I don’t think a lot of artists use. Some artists use Photoshop, some use Illustrator, some use AI, some use generative coding, some are curated and others are randomly generated. The Coffee Collection uses all of the above!

How do you balance artistic expression with the technical aspects of blockchain integration?

I haven’t encountered too many limitations imposed on my art from the technical aspects of the blockchain. I still have a few pieces that I’m trying to figure out how to make technically possible…I’m sure there is a way, I just need to find it. In that regard, the blockchain has been a motivation for me to keep learning and developing my understanding of it all.

Will there be any rare or limited-edition NFTs within your collection, and how can collectors obtain them?

Yes!! There are a handful of 1/1s in the collection, which I define as having traits that were not included in the randomly generated outputs. Some will be obvious, others are similar to the rest of the collection but include 1/1 traits. There are also (currently) four honorary pieces that will be included in the collection.

How do you plan to engage with the community during and after the launch of your NFT collection?

This is my biggest challenge. I love engaging one-on-one with those who like my illustrations and engage with my posts, but as an engineer and artist, community engagement does not come naturally to me. My favorite part of being an artist in the space has been meeting collectors and sharing and trading art, many of whom I consider to be real friends in the space, and I hope to continue making these connections through The Coffee Collection.

I consider each cup to be a work of art, and I am also considering offering prints for holders of The Coffee Collection. I love physicals, and would love to see this artwork displayed IRL.

Lastly, I love the idea of putting my custom-coded trait combinizer onto The Coffee Collection website and allowing everyone to create their perfect cup…but haven’t thought this all the way through yet.

What is the minting process for your NFTs, and will there be any pre-sale or whitelist opportunities?

The Coffee Collection will be minting on blever.xyz. There will be a whitelist phase followed by a public sale. There will also be opportunities for free mints or airdropped pieces. Details forthcoming!

What are your future plans or roadmap following the launch of your NFT collection on Apechain?

This collection is a self-contained art drop. While I considered a number of different mechanisms for this drop, including “wild card” tokens and burns, the tools on ApeChain are still a little young compared to the tools available on, for example, the Ethereum mainnet or even Base. I decided to keep this simple.

That said, I don’t rule out anything! I’d love to keep the surprise and delight going if an idea strikes and is technically possible: airdropped donuts, burns for a new trait…who know! Given all the potential combinations and my love of generating new traits and ideas, I am also keeping The Coffee Collection - Volume II on the back burner…of course, Volume I holders will have the first access.

What challenges have you faced as an artist in the NFT space, and how have you overcome them?

My biggest challenge in the space, as with many other artists, is reaching new collectors and finding others who enjoy my art.

What advice would you give to emerging artists looking to enter the NFT and blockchain art scene?

Make art that you love to look at. I always say that if you aren’t your favorite artist, you’re doing something wrong. While I’m not the most skilled or technically capable artist, I create the artwork that I want to see. I’m proud of every trait, every detail, and ever piece included in The

Coffee Collection, and I’d encourage other artist to keep pushing their creativity, curiosity, and capabilities until they are making the art that they love.

NFTs and blockchains will allow you to put your art out there, and hopefully you’ll find the success that you’re looking for (whatever that means to you), but you have to create the art you love first.

What inspired you to create a German sub-community within the Bored Ape Yacht Club?

I must admit, the initial inspiration came from my first encounter with the French Ape Yacht Club at the Paris Blockchain Week. It was my first in-person crypto event, and I traveled alone to gauge the scene. Since I was already in the French Ape Yacht Discord, I quickly connected with them at their booth. The warm welcome and sense of community were exactly how I envisioned the club – a family everywhere in the world. This experience made it clear that we needed something similar for the German-speaking Apes.

Can you share the journey of how this sub-community was formed?

The true founding moment happened while waiting in line at the first ApeFest. By chance, I met the same French Ape friends I had met at PBWS. I don’t know if you remember the line, but it was... let's say, very long! Some French Apes had kindly saved us a spot, and I found myself in a large group of new French Apes. This was also when I had the honor of meeting FUDmaster (founder of Bored Ape Canada) for the first time. He asked me if there was a German Ape community. I couldn't really say yes. At that time, I was co-hosting a Twitter Space every Wednesday with Beleevens and Bernhard, so it was a natural step for the three of us to work on the initial steps of founding the community. Beleevens had already created a not-so-active DACH Ape Club (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), which we revived with the help of many existing members and FUDmaster. This became the center of our community, and the Discord server has been growing ever since. Those were the beginnings, but certainly not the end!

What were some of the initial challenges you faced while setting up this community?

The real challenge was reviving an essentially dead server and bringing back activity and relevance. Managing social media was tough because not everyone has the time and patience to handle multiple accounts. Reactivating our Twitter account helped us regain some reach. Germany, Austria, and Switzerland are vast regions, and most active members were already on the Discord server. The challenge was to make people from all these countries feel addressed and at home. Our membership grew very slowly at first, but this improved with the declining floor prices, which I saw as a positive aspect. If the floor price had remained high, I wouldn’t have met some of the wonderful people in the German community. What we achieved is a sense of, "This is OUR community that WE must take care of." Creating a sense of unity and a German Ape Club identity was also difficult, but time played a significant role. It’s always challenging to make decisions that everyone can support without stepping on too many toes.

How did you overcome these challenges, and what kept you motivated?

Ultimately, none of this would have been possible without the support of others. It wasn’t always easy. FUDmaster, Beleevens, Bernhard, Crowy, Wuestenigel, CrazyCrypto, Bonzo, the French Apes, and Bassen and Colin with their regular German Twitter Space were all a big help. Having the French Apes and Bored Ape Canada Club as pioneers and friends was also very comforting. Our big goal was to have a great, strong, and cohesive German-speaking community. As mentioned, the falling prices brought many new active faces to us, helping us grow. A logo finally gave us the visual identity we needed. ApeFest, especially the Chinese Ape Club party, allowed us to meet in person for the first time, and since then, we’ve been a truly active and vibrant community. This personal connection greatly helped.

What are the core values and goals of your German sub-community?

I would say the most important values are inclusivity and trust. We are a tight-knit, good-natured OG community that genuinely loves the Bored Ape Yacht Club. Principally, all Apes and Mutants are welcome, but it’s clear that our Discord is primarily German-speaking. Our shared identity around the German language also plays a significant role. Even though we renamed ourselves from ApeClubDACH to the German Ape Club, many Austrians (like myself) and Swiss members are part of the community. The beauty is that over time, we’ve invited so many guests and international friends to our Discord that there are no strict criteria to join. Every Ape and Mutant is welcome, and that’s our ethos. We aim to be the best example of what it means to be part of the best club in the world. Our goal is to grow as much as possible, network extensively with other sub-communities, and organize many IRL events. By the way, we are still looking for a sponsor!

Can you describe some of the key activities and projects your sub-community is involved in?

Of course! We are currently organizing a big meetup at the Waldhotel Heppe, one of the best German Apes out there :) The French Ape Yacht, UK Ape Club, and the German Ape Club are all meeting at a large hotel in Germany – what could possibly go wrong? We are also working on producing our first merchandise, which looks fantastic. I’m excited to show you the designs. Additionally, we support the Bored Ape Association, initiated by FUDmaster, which aims to bring as many sub-communities together as possible. Numerous communities have already participated in the initial meetings, and I personally believe this unification strengthens us and aligns with the club’s ethos. We are also working on a delegation wallet and considering organizing a side event at ApeFest. It can't get any better!

How has the Bored Ape Yacht Club impacted your sub-community and its members?

Well, without the Bored Ape Yacht Club, we probably wouldn’t have met, and we wouldn’t exist. I think that answers it all

But seriously, I have great gratitude towards Garga (CEO of BAYC), who has always been personally present at so many sub-community events and has always had an open ear. I think there could still be much more concrete support from Yuga to assist sub-communities, but with the Apecoin DAO, so many possibilities are already open.

What unique contributions do you feel your German sub-community brings to the larger Bored Ape Yacht Club?

We strive to be a shining example of what it means to be part of this global community, bridging the gap between different regions and fostering a spirit of camaraderie and mutual support. Meet us at an IRL event, and you’ll understand the energy we bring. I think the photo from the Hong Kong ApeFest says more than a thousand words. Additionally, we have some heavy hitters in our community that every BAYC member likely knows. We have also welcomed several Apecoin DAO candidates and are a very active community overall. With our GAC delegation wallet, we plan to be more involved in the DAO in the future.

How do you maintain the excitement and synergy within your sub-community?

At the moment, the hub of our activities is our Discord server. We keep all current and necessary Apecoin, Yuga Labs, and BoredSecurity news and updates readily available there. Our members frequently meet up independently across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Our strongest presence was undoubtedly at ApeFest Hong Kong 2023 and Oktoberfest. This year, we are looking forward to a major meetup with the French and UK Apes in Germany, and we have already had a meetup at the Cannes Film Festival with the French Apes. Events like these are invaluable.

Additionally, we never lack collaborations, inquiries, free mints, waitlists, and so on. We are also in direct contact with the fantastic team at Yuga through the Bored Ape Association. All in all, there's never a dull moment for us!

How do you see the future of your sub-community within the Bored Ape Yacht Club?

Very bright!

But seriously, we continue to grow steadily without active recruitment or marketing, and it's wonderful to see. As I mentioned, the relatively low floor price has been a positive aspect. I truly hope that through the Bored Ape Association, sub-communities will play an even bigger role. It's great to see so many new communities emerging. The role the Elite Apes played at ApeFest 2023 was impressive and demonstrated what is possible. Thanks again for the hospitality; the German Apes had an amazing time!

There are quite a few amazing stories. However, I'm not sure how much exposure each member wants. So, feel free to join our Discord or DM us on Twitter if you want to learn more or get to know someone!

Are there any specific events or milestones you are particularly looking forward to?

We're particularly excited about the meetup at Waldhotel Heppe, Oktoberfest, the Apecoin delegation wallet, ApeFest, and Project Dragon. Additionally, our regular calls keep us connected and engaged. In all seriousness, we are thrilled to be so well-represented and look forward to growing together with the club, leaving our mark on NFT history alongside everyone else!

What role do you think the Bored Ape Yacht Club plays in the broader NFT space?

The Bored Ape Yacht Club plays a very significant role in the broader NFT space. It's fair to say that they were a major catalyst for the 2021 NFT hype, and without them, our PFPs wouldn’t exist in their current form. They set many trends and were the undisputed number one in the NFT market for a long time. It was a bit crazy; anyone who was on Twitter at that time knows what I mean. BAYC has truly made some dreams come true.

It’s unfortunate that we are currently going through a challenging phase, and the perception outside our NFT bubble is rather lukewarm. I get the impression that while BAYC is receiving criticism from outside the bubble, Yuga Labs is being closely scrutinized by the community. The phrase "the higher the rise, the greater the fall" seems quite fitting here.

Personally, I am very satisfied and still find BAYC to be a model community. The bonds developed over time and the tight group of OG Apes who have always been here and remain very active in the community are absolutely indescribable. BAYC is full of builders and inspiring people, and more are joining all the time. With Garga as CEO, I believe the right direction will be taken. Initiatives like Dookey Dash, Project Dragon, the collaboration with Pixel Vault, and ApeChain are already exciting, and I look forward to everything else that is to come.

What are your thoughts on MBA (Made by Apes), and how do you think it aligns with your sub-community's goals?

I think it's a fantastic idea and extremely important for the club. It offers a simplified way to leverage one's IP and benefit from the collective network and knowledge of everyone involved. The exciting changes with the migration to ApeChain are also very interesting. On one hand, starting your own business is incredibly tempting, but we German Apes are also our own MBA. I love that MBA provides opportunities beyond just financial aspects.

We are very proud to be part of the program along with other sub-communities! Hopefully, the program will continue to expand and develop into an interesting global network that appeals to all NFT enthusiasts, business minds, and Ape fanatics.

Have any members of your sub-community created projects under the MBA (Made by Apes) initiative?

Yes, several members of our sub-community have created projects under the MBA initiative. These projects range from NFT art collections to collaborative ventures with other BAYC sub-communities. The MBA initiative has provided a great platform for our members to innovate and bring their ideas to life.

How do you think the Bored Ape Yacht Club has influenced the NFT community in Germany?

I think BAYC is not yet as strongly represented in Europe as it could be, which is why it’s important to continue supporting regional clubs. They are a crucial social hub for the Ape community and should not be neglected. However, even in Germany, the Apes have made quite a splash and definitely sparked a German NFT hype. We have some well-known German Apes, too :) Many German companies have dipped their toes into Web3 projects, some successfully and others less so.

In my view, the true movement has taken place in small, very active, and wonderful Web3 projects. New Web3 hubs and small conventions have maintained their value to this day. Overall, the hype seems to have flattened out, but it's great to see that our members in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland are still actively launching new Web3 projects and representing our club well.

BAYC has shown the potential of NFTs beyond just digital art and has inspired many German artists, developers, and enthusiasts to explore NFTs and build their own projects. The sense of community and the innovative spirit of BAYC have been particularly impactful imho.

We started as Bored TV. Two years ago standing in line at the second annual Apefest. We looked at each other and I asked if they wanted to get together once a week to stream live and talk Bored Apes. It was a passion project for THE COMMUNITY. Ihave been ape since mint and even when Bored TV started, the HUGE idea was to be the ESPN of Yuga Labs. I could see it clearly. Bored TV. Articles. Short Form Content. Going to events and cove3ring them only Apes can do.

One year ago I wanted to do more. I wanted to make Bored TV into that next step towards, the ESPN of Yuga Labs. We talked together and rebranded to Bored Media Group with the idea that this was another step to our final form. We added weekly updates in the form of an infographic as well as helping cover Apecoin DAO AIPs. We also hosted certain short form content with builders in the space, though it wasn’t exactly what I wanted. It was a great move in the right direction, but we needed to scale.

A few months ago I decided that to get to where we envisioned we needed to think larger. We needed to find ways to collaborate with other creators to help support them and them in turn supporting the idea of a NETWORK. That is where the final rebranded to Bored Network & Company came from. I started talking to my friend, Otherguide to see if he wanted to come on board to help with amazing content. As we began to talk we saw the announcement of the BBAC Accelerator Program and I knew it was a great opportunity to create a firm foundation for our scale.

To say that we are thankful to be a part of the accelerator program would be the understatement of the year. This allows us to reach out for more collaboration with other builders and to actually support our team so we can be inspired to create more for the community. For the Network.

Can you tell us about the origins of Moon Coffee? How did it all begin? What inspired you to start a coffee business with a focus on the NFT community?

To begin I'm a retired Chicago Police officer that spent the last ten years working midnight.   So I was living / staying awake with all types of coffee.  I started in crypto in 2019, in NFTs in 2021 buying my 1st Ape in May 2021.  So I retired in January 2022 and took a few weeks off to sleep lol.   So when I was ready to start the coffee business I wanted to combine it with NFTs as they helped me retire.  As it turn out there were 4 coffee companies using BAYC IP so I didn't want to step on their toes so I decided to name the coffee Moon Coffee Company (in lock with all NFTs going to the moon) and go with Moonbirds on my bags. In the meantime we were spending months trying to find the perfect beans / roasters for our business.

Our idea was simple we wanted to introduce non crypto people to crypto via a great cup of coffee.  We want them to buy our coffee over and over and one day associate Moonbirds to our coffee, or if they go to our website and see all of these projects / artists.

So that narrowed down our beans / roasters.  We selected a specialty grade bean (only one in five beans are considered specialty grade)

We wanted a premium coffee to get non crypto people in and were happy with our selection.

On top of specialty grade coffee, our coffee is freshly roasted the day you order our coffee.  Giving our customers a perfect bean / roast every time. We launched February 2023 and this February 2024 Yuga took over Proof and I applied for Made By Apes.  We got the license and things are starting to move.

What motivated you to start Mutant Ape Designs?How did you come up with the idea to expand from custom coffee mugs to videos, 3D figures, and Web3 business cards?

So as we promoted Moon Coffee one thing that I thought of and didn't see around was having my Moonbirds or Ape on a coffee mug.  Since I drink coffee everyday I might as well see my NFTs on the mugs.  So we created our mug and sure enough there was a small demand for it.  I custom created a few mugs displaying my work from my @mocococom1 account which had 100 followers at the time.  So that was a pet project that I would work on if I had a customer that wanted it.

As an Ape I support as many Apes as possible one day I see a few Apes post their 3D Apes.  So I found out that @RidazLp2 created them so I had him make one for me.  It was February when I got it, and quickly found out that I can play with it on Blender.  It took me several weeks but I know enough to make fun videos.  T

he next thing I discovered was that I can pause an action in blender and 3D print my Ape in that pose. A few weeks later BAYC released the 3D files.  Well anyone can create videos now, but not everyone has the time to learn how to make them.  So I offered free videos to anyone that bought a bag of coffee.  That was my most successful month of Moon Coffee.   So the demand for short fun videos is there.  Combine that with my coffee mugs, 3D printing I said this is a business. I quickly applied for a second MBA called Mutant Ape Designs  (MAD) and waited.  While we waited I discovered a person that made cards of your NFT posting stats on the back.  Turns out if you tap the card to a smart phone my Twitter account pops up.  I loved that idea.  I said instead of baseball cards, let's make business cards.  Put my Ape or any NFT on the front and QR Code on the back for options and instead of yelling you account information at Apefest just tap the phone and they can follow you instantly.

Since everything is custom we create everything based on what the customer wants.  Jay Day is one of our customers and I wanted to give him a free 8 inch 3D printed figure.  Since he into working out I wanted his Ape to be flexing.  He said he wanted the pose from one of his videos. Just a leaning pose. So that is what he wanted that is what he got.

As far as quality, much like the Coffee business you have to hire / work with top tier partners.  It might cost a bit more but worth it at the end of the day as it is our name on the product.

Since we just started we just want people to be aware of our business and happy to discuss placing your NFTs on mugs, shirts, hats, tumblers, anything really.  We feel once you see the cost and quality of our products you will come back for more.

How has being part of the "Made by Apes" community influenced your business? In what ways can "Made by Apes" help builders and entrepreneurs like you?

I love the Made By Ape branding.  It legitimizes the product.  And once it is recognized you get a huge community wave of support.   That doesn't mean everyone buys your product (which many might believe and get frustrated when it doesn't occur) but as an entrepreneur with zero dollars for marketing this is huge.  The spotlight that the Ape community members place on your product with a simple like is amazing.

I will say things are starting to get confusing, we got Ape DAO, Thank Ape, MBA, ApeCouncil, and someone like myself who is spending every hour focusing on the business I can miss things.   So it's great when we can go to Bored Media for a summary.  I was able to apply and hope to win 25k Apecoin to build my Moon Coffee business so as long as we have Apes that support each other we will be fine.

How do Moon Coffee and Mutant Ape Designs complement each other? How do you manage and balance running two distinct businesses? What are some of the biggest lessons you've learned from your journey so far? How can the community support Moon Coffee and Mutant Ape Designs in their growth and development?

Our main business is Moon Coffee, so Mutant Ape Designs is our fun side adventure that people love.  Designing coffee mugs pair well with selling coffee, and helping people create videos of the Apes is just fun.  Running two businesses can be challenging but I have a ton of help from my wife (co founder) and team. Lessons I learn don't spend all of your money right away, save some for marketing

don't expect a rocket to the moon day one, this is a grind and the more you put in the more successful you will be.

With an NFT boom coming in 2025 I can see people buying in and falling in love with the community so they will love to see their NFTs in physical form and possibly supporting NFT businesses.  Good time are around the corner. What initially attracted you to the Bored Ape Yacht Club?

I first got wind of BAYC back in the Clubhouse era. I remember all these ape PFPs just vibing and not taking themselves too seriously. This was mid-lockdown, and we were all looking for a community in some way, shape, or form; it felt special, and if you paid attention, you could tell this had the potential to be something big. I picked up my apes on 1 May 2021, with sweaty palms and brand new to NFTs, utterly unaware of what it would become. I never looked back.

How would you describe your experience within the BAYC community?

Being around since the club's early days has been incredible. I think there is something extraordinary about finding a community based on a shared love for a PFP project that is both crazy and wonderful at the same time. From joining spaces surrounded by fellow apes and mutants and instantly feeling less alone to jumping into Discord or X DM groups to ask questions or throw ideas around with a sense of instant camaraderie and support has been enlightening and immensely special. IRL events such as ApeFest and independent events hosted by BAYC/MAYC members have also been game changers. I've been fortunate to have made lifelong friends thanks to the club, for which I will forever be grateful. I have found amazing communities such as Ladies of BAYC, the Grateful Show family, and the Orange Beanie gang, to name a few.

Has your involvement with BAYC influenced your artistic style or themes?

It hasn't influenced my artistic style or themes but has connected me with incredible fellow collectors and artists in the club. Toward the end of last year, we formed Bored Minds Club, aiming to kick off more artist-focused conversations while elevating artists of all mediums along with collectors who love art within BAYC/MAYC and the broader web3 ecosystem.

Can you share your favorite moment or event related to BAYC?

ApeFest is always a surreal experience; I missed the first one but managed to attend ApeFest in NYC and watch Snoop while meeting the founders. It was epic and not something I thought I'd ever be able to do; however, this year's week-long Hong Kong ApeFest was incredible from start to finish. Seeing familiar faces again and constantly meeting more apes IRL, putting faces to the PFPs is something that will never get old. I also really loved the expansion of ApeFest to include so many amazing sub-events. Bored Minds Club also hosted a photo walk, and being able to share our love for photography and art with others was beautiful and really special.

Where do you see the Bored Ape Yacht Club heading in the next few years?

I hope to see more community-focused growth aimed at connecting members in meaningful ways. Incentivizing more partnerships and networking amongst both members and other brands/projects. It's challenging and nearly impossible to guess where the club will be heading in the coming years, but I have faith in the team at Yuga and our fellow members that they will help foster a long and prosperous future for us all.

In your opinion, how has BAYC impacted the broader NFT space?

BAYC has had a massive impact on the NFT space. They achieved crazy organic growth and hype that hadn't been seen before. Love it or hate it, it's undeniable that BAYC has had, and continues to have a massive role in the culture of web3 and how web3/NFTs is perceived in web2&3.

How important is the sense of community in BAYC to its members?

A sense of community is vital to the BAYC/MAYC members. After all, the club is what came first. I personally see everything else as a bonus. Every time I attend an IRL event and meet more incredible members, I'm reminded of the power of community again and again. It may seem very cliche, but it does feel like a big family, and there's something wonderfully unique and inspiring about this community if you take the time to get to know them.

Has your involvement with BAYC contributed to your personal or professional growth?

It has 100% given me a sense of belonging and community in some of the most challenging times. From a personal perspective, I've connected with fellow apes and shared my journey, which has allowed me to learn from past mistakes and grow. Professionally, it's also connected me with incredible individuals who have inspired me to take chances, step outside of my comfort zone, learn, and push myself to reach new goals.

Have you submitted your ape to create an MBA for your work or are you planing to in the future?

I have yet to use my apes for my own MBA, but the Bored Minds Club has an MBA license, and I'm very proud to be a part of the team.

How do you think MBA can and will impact the BAYC in the future?

It's a brilliant initiative and will continue to help and inspire more apes to build on their IP. I think a big part of the club's potential lies in members utilizing their IP and discovering the power of tapping into community.

What advice would you give to someone just joining BAYC?

Join for the right reasons: because you love what you see, where BAYC came from and want to be a part of something bigger. Join groups and get to know people within the community; put in the time to find your niche within the club, and don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Try your best to attend IRL events. I can't stress enough how fantastic meeting fellow apes in person has been.

Can you walk us through your journey in the art world?

I've always been painting and creating art, a mix between realism and abstracts, primarily in oils, figure studies/various sketches has also been something I've delved into for many years. My photography journey originally began by photographing my family and the people and things in my life, and later progressed into fashion photography. After many years, I felt a disconnect. I started longing for honesty in photography, those moments in our daily life that are beautiful and real, which most people overlook, and this is when I fell in love with street and documentary photography. I decided to pivot my focus to using the camera as a means of personal expression and no longer as a job. More recently, I began to merge my love for photographing the vulnerable, honest and raw moments of daily life with my passion for painting. I will be continuing down the path of mixing mediums, and I'm incredibly excited to see where it will take me.

What are your primary sources of inspiration in your art and photography?

My sources of inspiration would be everything around me: photography books, poetry, music, and attending gallery shows on quiet afternoons. My own experiences and things which occur in my life also has a massive impact on the moments I photograph and the paintings I create. I have found a therapy in both these mediums, which I can't imagine life without.

For the longest time, the camera has been a reflection of my deepest feelings; when I'm out on the street among the chaos of daily life, and I look through my viewfinder and identify a moment, scene, or emotion in a stranger with which I resonate with it immediately quiets my mind. It is a way for me to both process and let go while simultaneously offering the opportunity to confront and explore ideas.

My painting takes these feelings and moments into a different realm; one where I get to digest them in a different form. I explore memories, or moments of inspiration, scenes or feelings from a moment in time, which I then further explore by abstracting these ideas on canvas. It's deeply personal, and I hope that through my art and photography, others can find a similar connection to the thoughts and emotions that I try and conevy.

How would you describe your signature style in your artwork?

I would describe my art and photography as being a quiet observer of the chaos, furtive and candid, often dark and moody. I often refer to the moments I look for as "otherness", the space we go towards in our minds when our thoughts are in flux, moments in which we forget ourselves and glimpse the feeling within. I hope that within my art, I can evoke these feelings in others and, even if for just a brief moment, connect strangers through them.

How has your work evolved over the years?

The evolution has been quite dramatic while also coming full circle. From focusing on capturing fashion and constructing scenes, to being a quiet observer was a significant change. My confidence in my photography and behind the camera while photographing street has also greatly impacted the moments I capture. The full circle moment happened more recently when I picked up the paintbrush again; it was an awakening of sorts, a realization that we place ourselves in far too many boxes and don't need to be one thing. Artists are, first and foremost, people who find ways to express themselves and their ideas creatively; we may and should use whichever medium is available to bring across our ideas, amplifying our voice in the ways that feel right at that moment. It's been incredibly liberating to explore ways of merging my passion for photography and fine arts, and I'm excited to see where this road will lead me.

Can you tell us about your favorite project or piece you've worked on?

My latest collection, Hidden Stories, holds a really special place in my heart. I have always been fascinated with hands and the secrets they whisper to the world. During the many years of my street photography journey, hands have repeatedly been a subject which appears in my body of work. In addition to the theme of my collection "Hidden Stories: Sight of Hand", storytelling and documenting the history of things through time has always been of extreme interest to me - I think this spawned from my mother's love of antiques and art, I remember walking through countless stores and galleries with her, wishing that I could know more about these antiques, who owned them, and how they ended up here—often longing for the power to touch them and see snippets of the lives they witnessed. This is why I wanted to create a way for collectors to have the means to add their own stories to the art they collect - the blockchain can document so much more within the provenance of art. This provenance can be much more meaningful than simply who created, bought and sold the piece and for how much. So, together with Transient Labs, we created the Story Contract, which allows for story inscriptions, where holders can cement their own story onto the tokens minted on the Story Contract, thus making their own journey and words part of the art provenance forever.

The Story Contract and Hidden Stories are two of my proudest contributions to the space. I'm so happy that everyone can now use the story contract via Transient Labs and enable story inscriptions on their art.

What have been some of the biggest challenges you've faced in your artistic career?

Gatekeeping in web2 has always been a considerable challenge - one I don't think will ever truly change as it's part of human nature and will always be there in some form, whether in web2 or web3. More so, it was accepting that often, we are our own most significant challenge. I've needed to come to terms with the barriers that I've personally fixated on, whether it is confidence in my voice, art, photography or the ability to unapologetically be me. Facing these challenges is a work in progress, but I aim to learn from and grow from them daily.

How do you balance digital art forms, like NFTs, with traditional photography and painting?

It's very easy to get caught up in hyper-focusing on one or the other. It's important to remind ourselves that we are all still figuring out how these worlds work together. I still sell editions of my photography and focus on IRL gallery shows and so forth, while figuring out how to bridge the digital/physical world when it comes to my paintings. I feel that in the case of physical art that has been tokenized, the two should remain a unit. There are many ways of exploring how to go about this; T.R.A.C.E by Transient Labs is one of them, which I intend to explore further!

What message do you hope to convey through your art and photography?

The main message, I guess, would be that no matter who you are or where you come from, we are all sharing this wild world; we all have deep emotions and feelings, and even in those moments when you feel truly alone, you are not. If you take the time to look around you, you will see what you feel in others, and within that, we are all connected, and within connection lies the beauty of this life.

How has technology influenced your approach to art and photography?

Technology has allowed me to explore further, not just the mediums of creating - such as digitally painting and exploring ideas with speed or capturing more extensive and more detailed photographs, allowing us to add more layers and levels to the art we create. Whether by utilizing AI to explore creative ideas without needing a massive production budget or partnering with excellent developers to bring wild ideas like my Story Contract to life on the blockchain.

Technology offers us unlimited opportunities to take traditional art and storytelling to another level while also making art so much more accessible to artists and collectors alike. I have the chance to have my art and photography collected by patrons of the arts who would ordinarily never have seen my art, let alone be able to collect it. In addition, I've become friends with and formed amazing relationships with fellow collectors and artists who inspire me daily in ways that I would never have imagined before web3. I owe all of that to technology, and I intend always to embrace the advances within these technologies.

Can you please give us a little introduction to yourself and where this all began?

My name is David Boateng, founder of Enabling the Disabled foundation. This mission began when my university mates and I travelled 6 hours to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, to donate black/chalk boards, paint and build a new playground for the State Basic Preparatory School. I was buying fruits close to the playground when a little boy approached me with his hands stretched out, signaling he wanted some of the fruits. Immediately I also noticed his tongue out with saliva oozing from his mouth. I looked around and realized that all his mates were playing together in small groups, and he was the only one left alone, probably because he didn’t “look” like the rest of them. Touched by what I had seen I proceeded to ask for his teacher, whom explained his condition to me; which only made me more eager to meet his family. Ever since I got connected with his family, I have been so moved by their story that I have been supporting them with the little that I can.

Can you share some examples of how your initiatives have directly impacted the lives of autistic children in Africa?

The organizing of entrepreneurship workshops, such as bakery workshops as seen here https://x.com/ctballer_/status/1694129119582097482?s=20 and general incentive-based workshops has seen countless families put food on their plate. Giving the mothers capital enables them to start a business which in turn restores their hope. We also went out and shot short docuseries about the conditions these families face, and this has shed light on the realities facing many special needs families in Africa. We have housed many special needs children who would otherwise be on the street in container homes, we currently have 20 children on educational scholarships, and have built a borehole, a clean drinking water source in respect of a village with no clean water in respect to the high segment of their population being autistic.

What were the biggest challenges you faced in implementing these programs, and how did you overcome them?

Trust trust trust. Trusting locals can prove very difficult when majority of the people you aim to serve are looking for ways to siphon funds from you. Also, majority of the people we aim to serve live in very remote areas which requires a lot of traveling. The explanation of web3 and NFTs especially the jpegs can be troubling as high illiteracy levels in some societies prevent understanding of the concept.

How do you measure the success of your programs in reducing the harm to autistic children?

Harm is mostly caused to autistic children as a result of financial hardship on the families. When we organize entrepreneurship incubators and empower these mothers to start business, that burden is lifted thus the more fulfilled mothers, the greater chance of harm to special needs children being reduced. Also, putting the children on educational scholarship alleviates that pressure off the mothers, making life easier and giving them hope, which comes full circle in keeping the children alive.

What role does community education play in your strategy, and how do you approach it?

Education is the biggest part of our strategy. This is because of the stigma which persists in underprivileged communities of autism being a curse from the gods as a result of lack of information . This makes the innocent children subject to all types of violent acts. As a result, educating the masses on the media (radio and television) is key in destigmatizing autism in our communities. Also, going into underprivileged communities to undertake educational campaigns is our key strategy, as these campaigns will educate mothers and this tends to have a ripple effect as these mothers teach other mothers in their communities skills in taking care of their special needs children.

Can you describe a particularly memorable success story from your efforts?

Several, the shooting of a docu-series on families of special needs children x, empowering mothers of which one opened a restaurant, being invited to speak at the royal NFT gala, building container homes for special needs children who are orphans, and building a borehole for an entire community based on the fact that they have a high population of special needs children.

How do local healthcare systems contribute to the success of your initiatives?

We’ve partnered with local hospitals to further talks on the building and refurbishing of their autism wards. Also, we have made great connections in web3 with specialists in special needs who are willing to offer education to our local medical officials in the field. We have a network of local specialists who direct us to the needs of special needs communities, which directs us to where to concentrate our efforts in.

Are there any collaborative projects or partnerships between the Bored Ape Yacht Club and your initiatives in Africa?

Not officially, but I have received great support from the apes, and also have an official collaboration with Novel Labs, founding company of Mutant Cartel whereby we have built a borehole for an underprivileged community in Ghana.

Can you share how the network or resources of the Bored Ape Yacht Club have aided your cause?

BAYC has connected me to people like IllaDaProducer and Lior who have been pillars for this cause. They used their high positions in the club to elevate this cause by amplifying the message in their channels. Through this amplification, we’ve secured an official partnership with Novel labs, and also, have spread the message throughout the BAYC community and received a lot of support and backing for good works in Africa.

Has the Bored Ape Yacht Club community shown interest or involvement in your projects? If so, in what ways?

Being a part of BAYC is the only reason this project is thriving. This is because our community is filled with very big hearts who are always willing to lend a helping hand to support this cause and give it the attention it needs. So many people I could mention, but very big appreciation to people like Lior and Illa, who have been monumental to the success of this project.
