Compared with the fire of ordinary low-rise buildings, the fire of high-rise buildings has the following characteristics:

Chimney effect increases oxygen flow

The internal structure of high-rise buildings is relatively complex. Generally, there will be multiple vertical shafts such as staircase, elevator shaft and exhaust duct, which have the characteristics of chimney. After the building is on fire, the hot air inside the building forms a density difference with the cold air outside the building, resulting in a pressure difference. The pressure difference forces the hot air inside the building to flow upward along the vertical pipe and then discharge from the exhaust outlet on the top of the building. At this time, a negative pressure area will be formed near the fire point, and the low-temperature and low-density fresh air outside the building is sucked in from the bottom of the building, Such air flow will bring more fresh air into the interior of the building, which is the chimney effect. Oxygen keeps pouring in, thus contributing to the fire. The higher the height of high-rise buildings, the more obvious the chimney effect.

High wind, fast fire spread

The test of Shanghai Fire Bureau shows that when a building with a height of 100 meters is on fire, the fire can spread from the bottom to the top floor from the vertical shaft in 30 seconds, and the whole building can instantly become a “three-dimensional fire field”. The wind speed at 90 meters of the high-rise building can reach 15 meters / second, and the higher the floor, the greater the wind speed, so as to accelerate the spread of the fire.

Restricted by vehicle lifting

At present, the height of domestic high-rise fire engines is about 50 meters, and the height of individual vehicles can reach 80 meters. The maximum operating height of high-rise fire engines produced and used in the world is 110 meters, while the floor height of residential buildings and commercial buildings is generally 3-4 meters. Therefore, high-rise fire vehicles can only rescue floors below 14 floors, and the fire rescue work of higher floors will be limited.

Firefighters have limited physical strength

When a fire occurs, the power system is shut down or fails, and the elevator and other electrical equipment cannot be used. Although well-trained firefighters can walk up to the 12th floor or higher of the building, firefighters also need to climb stairs with personal protective devices and fire fighting and rescue equipment for rescue. These additional loads of at least 20kg will greatly consume the physical strength of firefighters and reduce the rescue efficiency.

It is difficult to evacuate the damaged and trapped people

It is estimated that when there are 120 people on each floor and there is only one evacuation staircase, in case of fire, it will take 19 minutes to evacuate all the people in the 15 storey building to the ground, 39 minutes to evacuate the 30 storey building, more than one hour to evacuate the 50 storey building, and longer in the actual situation of fire. The most efficient and safe time to escape after a fire is 7 minutes, so there are great potential safety hazards in the fire escape of high-rise buildings.

The high building is on fire. Should I run up or down?

If you are in a high-rise building, how can you save yourself after a fire? The following four escape suggestions:

▶ When encountering a fire, keep calm and dial 119 to explain the cause, location and magnitude of the fire. At the same time, soberly analyze the fire situation and quickly escape from the safe passage.

▶ The trapped people below the 10th floor can immediately escape through the evacuation channel. In case of a small fire, they can wet the bedding or blanket with water and wrap it on their body. At the same time, they can protect their mouth and nose with a wet towel and move forward by bending over to prevent the choking of thick smoke and reduce the impact of toxic gas caused by combustion; If the fire is very big, do not jump blindly because you are too excited. You must follow the principle of 7-meter jump - as long as it is higher than 7 meters, don’t expect to escape by jumping.

▶ If the fire is not serious, the personnel can take the elevator to the place above the fire platform of the adjacent building. If the fire is not serious, they can take the elevator to the place below the fire platform; If the fire is large, due to the “chimney effect”, you must not escape through the corridor. You should find a safe and eye-catching balcony or window and wait for the rescue of firefighters.

▶ Buildings over 100 meters generally have refuge floors. After a fire, you can enter the refuge floor for refuge. If all safety passages are cut off, the toilet can also be used as a relatively safe place to avoid danger. In case of emergency, the doors and windows of the toilet can also be closed, the gap can be blocked, all taps can be turned on, and if there is a bathtub, you can lie in the bathtub for temporary avoidance, so as to buy time for the rescue of firefighters.

How to prevent fire?

Since it is difficult to rescue after the high-rise building is on fire, prevention is the key reason. The preventive measures for high-rise building fire can be taken from the following points:

Strengthen the management of fire prevention facilities of high-rise buildings, regularly test and repair the automatic fire alarm system, fire extinguishing system, emergency broadcasting system and other linkage control equipment, and ensure that the valves on the high-level fire water tank, fire pump outlet pipe valve and sprinkler system pipe are normally open.

Strengthen the fire safety management of the building, ensure that the evacuation passage and emergency exit in the building are unblocked at any time, and the normally closed fire door should be closed.

Enhance fire safety awareness, avoid fires caused by careless use of fire / improper use of electricity in production and life due to violation of safety system, and improve emergency response

Welcome to the wechat subscription number of “Sina Technology”: techsina

Text / Wang Jiayuan

In the era of electrification, chips make the cycle connection between cars and semiconductors closer.

What is the most scarce and expensive thing in 2021? Chip must be the top answer.

The adverse consequences of the lack of core have been reflected in people’s daily life. The news of rising prices of electronic equipment, insufficient supply of mobile phones and insufficient supply of cars have frequently appeared on the hot search.

Since the end of 2020, it has been common for major vehicle manufacturers to raise the price or extend the delivery, mainly due to the shortage of vehicle chips.

After more than a year, the lack of core has not been alleviated, which still restricts the shipment of the whole vehicle factory.

On February 14, 2022, the Euler brand under Great Wall Motors (601633. Sh; 02333. HK) issued a notice to end customers to stop receiving orders: the black cat and white cat models stopped accepting new orders from February 15.

As soon as the relevant news is fermented, it will cause strong dissatisfaction on the Internet. Some owners of Euler black cat reported to the media that they have ordered Euler black cat for nearly four months. It was originally scheduled to pick up the car around February 11, but so far they still can’t pick up the car.

The great wall and Euler had to apologize and explain.

On February 23, 2022, Euler CEO Dong Yudong announced the whole thing on Euler app. It is precisely because of the lack of core and electricity and the sharp rise in the prices of other raw materials that the black cat lost more than 10000 yuan per unit, which indirectly led to the black cat model to stop receiving orders.

At the same time, the orders of black and white cats that have not been delivered to end customers exceed 20000. According to the estimated production progress, the longest delivery date will wait until the second half of 2022.

You know, these two cars are the main models of Euler brand in 2021, with good sales.

In 2021, the sales volume of Euler reached 135000, with a year-on-year increase of 140%. Among them, the sales of black and white cats account for more than 60%, far more than the good cats with more expensive prices. They are obviously Euler’s “fist products”.

In 2022, however, the situation has taken a sharp turn for the worse. In the past January, the proportion of sales of black and white cats has decreased to about 30%.

Thus, even for best-selling models, it is difficult to sustain without sufficient chip supply.

Not only did Euler encounter the above difficulties, but the industry was affected by the lack of core. Toyota, for example, has repeatedly announced the suspension of production within half a year. Among them, the largest shutdown involved a total of 27 production lines in 14 factories in Japan, and the production line with the longest shutdown lasted 38 days. The culprit is still the lack of chips.

The rise of raw materials and the lack of core have risen to a strategic position. Whoever has enough chips is more likely to break out of the bayonet market; Otherwise, you can only watch your competitors encroach on your market share.

“We don’t expect the shortage of chip supply to be solved soon and may continue into the next fiscal year (2022),” Toyota said

So where are chips used in a car? Why is there a continuous shortage of automotive chips?

Automotive chip

Automotive chips can be basically divided into four categories: main control chip, storage chip, power chip and sensor chip.

At this stage, the automotive industry is undergoing intelligent reform and the industry is upgrading. Intellectualization means diversification of functions, which requires more and more complex circuits to realize, while the circuit needs chip control.

In short, data collection (sensor chip), data storage (storage chip), power conversion (power chip), data processing calculation and main control execution (main control chip) all need chips to realize.

So why is the demand for automotive chips soaring? The author believes that there are three main reasons.

First, the faster than expected counter attack of new energy vehicles and the popularity of intelligence have greatly increased the consumption of automotive chips.

Second, the hardware procurement strategy of traditional cars is relatively conservative, resulting in insufficient inventory.

Third, the hoarding of new forces of car making exacerbates the shortage of chips.

The traditional automobile model is being overturned, and the demand for intelligence and entertainment has risen to a more and more important position, and the automobile chip is the executor carrying many additional functions.

New energy vehicles are developed on the basis of their own electrification. Compared with the engine system of traditional fuel vehicles, the demand of electrification for circuit control is higher. High end intelligence is an important label of new energy and new models.

More and larger screens, more cameras, more radars, more sensors, and more thread control brought by the buttonless interior all point to more chip needs.

Generally speaking, a traditional car needs about 500-600 chips, while a new energy vehicle needs about 1000-2000 chips.

According to canalys’ latest research on the global electric vehicle market, the total sales volume of the global automobile market will increase by 4% in 2021. Among them, the global sales volume of electric vehicles (EVS) reached 6.5 million, a year-on-year increase of 109%, accounting for 9% of all passenger vehicle sales.

The report also pointed out that, if not the global shortage of COVID-19 and chips in 2021, global car sales could reach a higher level.

Let’s make an account. In 2020, the sales volume of traditional fuel vehicles was 66.33 million and that of new energy vehicles was 3.11 million; In 2021, the sales volume of traditional fuel vehicles was 65.72 million and that of new energy vehicles was 6.5 million.

Suppose that in 2020, the number of chips required for traditional fuel vehicles is 500 and that for new energy vehicles is 1000; In 2021, the number of chips required for traditional fuel vehicles is 600, and the number of chips required for new energy vehicles is 1500.

The total number of chips needed in 2020 is 36.3 billion; The total number of chips needed in 2021 was 49.2 billion, an increase of 35.5% year-on-year.

Although there are many estimated values in this formula, it can be roughly seen that the increment of automotive chips is indeed a lot. Why is there such a shortage in the inventory of automotive chips?

From the second reason. Because the traditional automobile industry has developed very mature, the hardware procurement JIT (J

Zephyr tichet (Associate Professor of law, Fordham University)

Office monitoring. This technology will cause serious information asymmetry, allowing employers to monitor their employees like laboratory mice, further worsening the already bad relationship between superiors and subordinates. Employers know how to stimulate employees to work in unhealthy ways and how to extract more value from less pay. This allows them to exclude dissidents and alienate employees through differential treatment. This technology can be seen everywhere in the workplace today. If it is not stopped, it will soon become a flood.

Michael Littman (Professor of computer science, Brown University)

In the 2021 ai100 report, a chapter describes the most urgent threats of AI to us at present. The 17 person expert team believes that although the application of artificial intelligence system in the real world can benefit mankind, with the expansion of its application scope, the risk of misuse, overuse and abuse will also surge.

The biggest concern of the expert team about AI lies in the so-called “technology solvency”, that is, the mentality of “thinking that technologies like AI can be used to solve any problem”. Many people believe that the decisions made by AI are objective, neutral and impartial, but these decision results may be inappropriately applied, or based on historical bias or even blatant discrimination. If the data or data interpretation algorithms are not transparent enough, the public may be kept in the dark and have no idea how these decisions will affect their lives.

At present, artificial intelligence system has been used to publish false information on the Internet, so it is likely to pose a threat to democracy and be used as a tool to spread fascism. In addition, if the human factors in artificial intelligence are not fully considered, people will swing back and forth between “distrusting artificial intelligence systems” and “over relying on these systems”. Artificial intelligence algorithms also play a role in decision-making involving organ distribution, vaccines and other medical problems, which is likely to lead to life and death consequences.

If human intelligence can be primarily responsible for the organization or the system, it may be able to mitigate the risk if it occurs. Involving all stakeholders will greatly slow down the speed of AI in solving difficult problems, but it is an indispensable step, because the negative consequences of technology abuse are too serious. Technical experts should also firmly abide by the principle of “no harm” like the medical industry.

David shamway Jones (Professor of epidemiology, Harvard University)

As for who can afford the title of “the most dangerous emerging technology”, there are obviously many candidates. For example, the effect of gene editing technologies such as CRISPR may not be as powerful as supporters claim, but may cause serious damage. In addition, social media has also demonstrated the power of causing widespread harm. But what worries me most is the large-scale application of face recognition technology in the field of monitoring. In many ways, this technology is an important social asset. For example, face recognition can improve transaction efficiency. You don’t need to show your ID card or boarding pass when boarding. You can also brush your face and pay the bill when shopping in the store. Face recognition can also strengthen social security and make it easier to find and arrest criminals.

So where is the danger of this technology? First of all, our every move will no longer be private. Someone will always know where we are and where we have been. Even if these personal information is not abused, the loss of privacy and anonymity will make people feel uncomfortable. In addition, there is the problem of information abuse, and this risk is real. Anyone who has access to this information may use it for illegal purposes. From the pursuers of psychological distortion to government departments, it is possible to monitor the places we go and the people we meet, and even predict our next action. And I also suspect that the harm of this technology may be far more than we thought.

Ryan Carroll (Professor of law, University of Washington)

I think the most dangerous information technology is quantum computer. In addition to encryption cracking, the dangers of quantum computing are nothing new. As early as the supercomputer era, the threat of quantum computing to personal privacy has accelerated. Today, with enough data and processing capacity, the ability of today’s computer system to capture private information is increasing. My worry is that using quantum computing technology, the government and enterprises will become “Sherlock Holmes” and guess all our secrets from public information.

Amy Weber (CEO, future today Institute, a company that plans prospects, trends and scenarios)

The most dangerous new technology should be biology, or more accurately, synthetic biology. The goal of this technology is only one: to use cells to write new (or better) genetic codes. Synthetic biology uses engineering, artificial intelligence, genetics and chemical methods to redesign biological body parts or organisms, so as to strengthen specific abilities or create new functions. Using a series of the latest synthetic biology technologies, we can not only read and edit DNA codes, but also write new codes. This means that we will soon be able to program organisms as if they were microcomputers.

Synthetic biology allows us to turn DNA sequences into software tools, just like word, except that the object of editing is DNA coding. After researchers write or edit DNA according to their own ideas, new DNA molecules can be “printed” out of thin air with the help of technologies such as 3D printers. This DNA synthesis technology is advancing rapidly. Today’s technology can routinely print DNA strands containing thousands of base pairs, which can be used to establish new cellular metabolic pathways and even form a complete cell genome.

What problems might this cause? It won’t be long before we can write the genome of any virus. It seems scary to think of COVID-19, but viruses are not necessarily bad things. In fact, viruses are just containers for genetic coding. In the future, we may be able to create viruses beneficial to the human body for the treatment of specific diseases such as cancer.

Synthetic biology will be in the climate crisis and food and water
