We live in a hyperfinancialized world — markets bleed into daily life, asset prices run faster than wages, and the old link between effort and reward gets weaker every year. For many younger people, the “normal” path doesn’t move the needle anymore. So they drift toward high-variance habits: one-click trading apps, online casinos, sports bets, perps, prediction markets and memecoins. Not because they’re reckless, but because the alternatives feel even more hopeless, and because technology has made this kind of financial entertainment absurdly accessible.

This mindset or behavior has a name: hypergambling.

Hypergambling is the behavioral response that emerges when real economic returns shrink and individuals increasingly turn to high-risk, high-variance activities in an attempt to compensate. It describes the shift from rational, incremental wealth-building toward speculative, dopamine-driven decisions, a transition triggered by the compression of traditional returns and the lack of viable, stable paths to upward mobility.

There was a time when speculation was a privilege, confined to brokers, casinos, and insiders. Access required capital, connections, or proximity. Today, those same behaviors are frictionless and universal. What once demanded entry and intention now lives inside everyday interfaces. Financial risk no longer feels gated. A swipe, a tap, a notification is enough to step into it.

That shift didn’t just change who can speculate, it changed how speculation feels. The time between intent and outcome has compressed to near zero. The same gesture can open a loot box, place a bet, or buy an asset, each producing an immediate and familiar feedback loop. As a result, the line between financial behavior and entertainment blurs. Once money starts behaving like content, entertainment naturally pulls it toward the format it has optimized the most: games.

Zoom out, and the gravity becomes clear. Casual games are among the most frictionless entertainment systems in the world. Billions of people interact with them daily with almost no cognitive overhead. They’re fast, low-commitment, and endlessly repeatable, precisely the conditions where small financial stakes can exist without feeling heavy or deliberate.

Casual games are well suited to financialization because they feel like games, not bets. The interface reframes risk as play, and the brain responds accordingly.

These games have already perfected the mechanics (or dark patterns) people respond to: streaks, bonuses, time-based rewards, micro-decisions, and quick hits of dopamine. They’ve spent years optimizing for attention, habit, and emotional momentum. What happens when those same actions carry financial stakes? The cultural momentum is already in that direction.

To be clear, it’s not about turning games into work or about disrupting a format: it’s about supercharging those same dopamine hits, with actual ownership and financial value.

For this to work at all, something subtle has to change.

The moment a game offers anything that resembles real value, it inherits real-world expectations. Players don’t just want to win; they want to keep what they’ve earned, move it, stack it, or leave with it.

Closed balances start to feel fragile. Game-specific currencies feel temporary. Trust-based economies only last as long as the game does.

People don’t treat earned value like points. They compare it, hoard it, optimize it, and think about what else it could become. Saving becomes as natural as spending. Exiting becomes as important as winning.

Value, once introduced, resists being trapped.

Players move between games, platforms, and contexts, but their sense of ownership doesn’t. They expect whatever they earn to survive beyond a single title, a single session, or a single developer’s roadmap. The loop doesn’t end at the game screen, it leaks outward.

Real earnings require a place to live that isn’t owned by the game itself. They require portability, continuity, and the ability to move both across experiences and out into the real world.

Stablecoins sit naturally in this picture. They already behave the way this kind of value needs to behave: globally accessible, cheap to move, programmable, and easy to exit. More importantly, they allow balances to exist outside any single game, in a form that multiple experiences can recognize and interact with.

Once value lives at that level, games stop managing economies and start interfacing with one.

This “shared” balance stops behaving like a reward and starts behaving like capital. It persists between sessions, gets reused across experiences, and occasionally moves elsewhere.

The ecosystem drifts toward something that looks less like a collection of games and more like a lightweight financial layer built around entertainment.

Not a new kind of entertainment, but the one that already defines prediction markets, sports betting, casinos, and memecoins: everyday interactions with risk and outcome, repeated, social, and emotionally contained.

That’s why games are not an exception to this trend, but a continuation of it: another interface through which people seek agency, express risk, and remain engaged in an economy that no longer reliably rewards patience or planning.

Not because they fix anything, but because they align with how people already behave and with what they’re looking for: an Oasis that makes it feel possible to become who they want to be.

They’ve taken over the public feed, turning it from a place of passive consumption into a space of interactive discovery. Think:

The next shift is already underway: miniapps are expanding into private group chats.

Why does that matter? Because public feeds excel at virality, but group chats are where rituals take root.

Coinbase Wallet is about to unlock this design space in a big way. Their upcoming app release integrates a Farcaster client that supports miniapps not just publicly, but as programmable components inside group chats, alongside AI agents, bots, and chat-native logic, powered by XMTP.

It’s not just a UX upgrade. It’s a social evolution:

• Public miniapps: great for discovery, shareability, and organic growth

• Group-native miniapps: ideal for coordination, context, and compounding behavior

We’re entering an era where both coexist, and reinforce each other.

Miniapps — especially games — are a massive opportunity for Farcaster’s user growth. Following the arc of a (g)old article from Chris Dixon, a new dynamic is playing out: come for the miniapp, stay for the network.

And it’s not just theory: it’s happening.

Even Linda (Dev Ecosystem Lead @ Farcaster), on a recent podcast episode confirmed that this is already happening at a small scale with games like Farcade and Farville.

Get people through the door with something fun, useful, or habit-forming. A miniapp that makes sense right away. No need to "get" farcaster from day one. You just… play a word game, track a bet, mint something fun, or plant a carrot.

And here’s the underrated part: miniapps don’t just work for crypto people, if done well, they can work for everyone else.

Your friends, your partner, your parents suddenly become part of something onchain without even realizing it. No need to explain wallets or protocols. Just good vibes, good games, and a gradual path into the network.

And if it’s good? You come back. Again and again.

Then you start noticing the rest: who else is playing, casting, reacting. Maybe you get a follow. Maybe someone requests you a carrot. And just like that, you’re in a loop that’s bigger than the app — you’re in the network.

That’s where the magic happens. When the miniapp becomes a portal, and the solo moment becomes social.

This isn’t the only way to grow a social protocol (and of course that alone might not be enough). We've seen other ecosystems go all in on open network-first. But starting from zero is brutal.

Here’s what makes a mini-app go viral in the Farcaster ecosystem:

You’re building inside a social network - don’t waste that context.

• Use the Farcaster social graph to pre-fill friends and connections.

• Pull in usernames, avatars, and bios from their FC profiles.

• Add leaderboards, badges, and stats - competition fuels engagement.

• Show activity feeds: “your friends just did X.”

Think multiplayer, even for solo experiences - show people with people.

Make it effortless and fun for users to cast what’s happening.

• Add a “Share to Warpcast” button at key moments.

  • Mint an NFT → Share it in the feed (example)

  • Play Game → Share score (example)

• Highlight who did what inside the app (recent activity, “top player,” etc).

• Let people earn or collect things while using it — a badge, an early access.

• Show who brought in new users. Referral vibes, but social.

• Reward people for casting your mini-app. Should be easy to figure this out with protocol data and URL parsing.

  

• Interact → get feedback → share → bring others in → repeat.

• If someone uses your app and no one else knows, you failed.

• Think of every click as a chance to trigger the next user.

Farcaster lets you reach users where they already hang out: their Warpcast notification inbox.

Leverage this natively social push channel to re-engage and spark action:

• Send to all your followers (or specific frames/mini-app users).

• Use for:

  • New features or challenges (“New quiz just dropped!”)

  • Time-limited events (“You have 2 hours to vote!”)

  • Community milestones (“1,000 players joined today!”)

• Trigger notifications based on user actions or app events:

  • “You lost your top spot on the leaderboard. Come take it back 👀”

  • “@dave just replied to your poll.”

  • “Your daily reward is ready.”

• Notify when friends interact with your cast or mini-app:

🔁 This helps build habit loops: users leave, but your app nudges them back.

Important

• The best practice is to trigger the "Add Frame" action (and enabling notifications) as soon as the mini-app loads - this is common behavior in most popular mobile apps. However, some users may find this approach too aggressive. They might prefer to explore the app first and then decide to add the frame and enable notifications.

• Be mindful not to spam. Use notifications thoughtfully - to deliver real value, spark curiosity, or tap into social FOMO.

The launch phase can make or break virality.

• Add a referral or pre-save system before going live - it helps build early momentum and gives you a solid user base to notify when you launch.

• Reward early signups with perks, badges, or access (e.g. waitlist access)

• Use Warpcast notifications to bring pre-savers back when the app is live.

• Consider launching with a challenge or leaderboard to fuel early engagement.

Projects like Farcade, Farville, Yo, Bracket, Clankermon, Farworld and Ponder didn’t just capture attention; they created new habits, introduced users to onchain actions, and proved that distribution doesn’t have to be complex when your app lives where people already are - their social feeds.

With Just Frame It, we're doubling down on that belief, creating a dedicated builder program to help more teams build impactful Frames, ship them into production, and onboard more users onchain. And thanks to the support of Base, Purple DAO, Warpcast, and Splits, as well as partners like Daimo, Neynar, Privy, MBD, and Zapper, we’re equipping builders with the resources they need to make it happen.

The shift from traditional apps to mini-apps running inside social feeds is more than a trend: it's a fundamental change in how products are built, discovered, and used.

When Farcaster introduced Frames v1 in early 2024, it unlocked a new kind of app distribution. Builders could turn a simple social post into an interactive experience, allowing users to vote, mint NFTs, or join communities, all without leaving the feed. But v1 had limitations: slow rendering, limited functionality, and ephemeral discoverability.

Now, Frames v2 has changed the game. Builders can create full-screen, HTML-based apps with reliable wallet transactions, push notifications, and seamless mobile experiences. Users can search, save, and revisit Frames like they would any app. And thanks to Farcaster’s open protocol, a Frame built once works across all apps integrated with the network.

For Builders Garden, this shift represents an opportunity. We’ve seen how mini-apps can drive real engagement, not just within Farcaster but across the broader onchain ecosystem (e.g. Worldcoin). More importantly, Frames lower the barrier for users to interact with crypto, making complex workflows feel as intuitive as tapping a button in their social feed.

Just Frame It is a two-month builder program designed to turn ideas into live Frames. It’s not an incubator or a hackathon. It’s a structured sprint to help teams ship real products with real users. Our goal is simple: six high-quality Frames, live and functional by the end of the program.

Here’s how it works:

• 6 Teams: Each team can have up to three builders—developers, product creators, or founders.

• Mentorship: Experienced builders from projects like Farville, Yo, and Bracket will provide ongoing guidance and feedback.

• Demo Days: Every two weeks, teams will present progress to mentors and judges. Votes will determine which teams advance to the next stage.

• NYC Meetup: Midway through the program, we’ll gather in New York during Farcon NYC (May 1–4) for an optional, in-person check-in.

• Rome Residency: The top three teams will be invited to the Urbe Hub in Rome for a week-long build sprint, with flights and lodging covered.

The program kicks off March 31, 2025, and concludes with a final demo day on June 22, 2025.

Let’s frame the future, one mini-app at a time.

With a team of eight, we can build and ship two mini-apps in parallel each cycle. For this first cycle, we’re focusing on Farville, a game that’s already live in Alpha, and betttr, a social sports betting app.

Before diving into them, here’s a quick overview of the two ecosystems we’re focusing on for mini-app development: Farcaster and Worldcoin.

Originally launched in Jan 2024, Frames let developers build interactive apps inside the Farcaster feed - allowing user identification, wallet connections, and both on- and offchain actions.

Farcaster recently released Frames v2, a new version of Frames introducing:

• A full-screen interactive canvas powered by HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

• Fast, reliable mobile wallet transactions

• Easy saving, searching, and discovery of Frames

• Native mobile notifications

• Farcaster-native actions like follows and channel invites

• Built-in developer attribution

This unlocks much greater potential for interactive apps within Farcaster, leveraging the existing social feed for in-app functionality.

Recently, it was announced that the Coinbase Wallet team is integrating the Farcaster social feed, making it possible to interact with Farcaster and Frames directly from the CB wallet. This is huge news because it means an even greater distribution from day one for Frames. It’s the missing link between app developers, like us, and new users coming onchain. We can’t wait to see and use our apps on Coinbase Wallet!

World App allows third-party developers to build native-like mini apps, unlocking access to a rapidly growing user base and new monetization opportunities. Similarly to Farcaster Frames, these mini-apps run inside World App via webview. With the MiniKit SDK, developers can create seamless, native-like experiences that integrate directly with the World ecosystem.

The user metrics on World Mini Apps look promising, and the experience within the World App is super smooth.

Our goal is to build cross-platform mini-apps that work seamlessly on both Farcaster and World App. To make this happen, we’re developing an internal starter kit that ensures mini-apps are compatible with both ecosystems from day one. The plan is to finalize it and then release it open-source for developers.

Well, Telegram recently announced that their mini-apps and bots should be built exclusively on their proprietary TON blockchain (learn more here). We surely didn’t appreciate this move, as many others in the ecosystem, as it goes in the direction of building a closed ecosystem. Thus we decided to avoid building Telegram mini-apps for now.

FarVille, clearly inspired by the (g)old days of Facebook’s FarmVille, is our first mini-app experiment. It’s a farming simulation game where players can plant, harvest, trade crops, and interact with others—all within Farcaster. Designed to foster community engagement, it integrates social features and incentives that keep users coming back daily.

We launched Farville as a Frame v2 on Warpcast on January 17, rolling out an alpha version that has evolved significantly in the past few weeks. The main goal of the alpha was to iterate based on player feedback, improving the game’s economy, fixing bugs, and refining the overall experience.

Farville quickly gained traction, reaching over 2,000 daily active users (DAU) out of 7,671 registered players. Engagement levels have been strong, with 84% of users planting crops daily, and over 33,185 daily quests completed by more than 2,500 players. The in-game economy saw pumpkin leading as the most planted crop, followed by potato and corn. Social features played a big role in player interaction, with thousands of donation requests and completed trades helping the game spread virally across Farcaster.

One of the biggest wins was the speed at which we shipped and iterated. Players actively provided feedback and bug reports, allowing us to improve the game rapidly. We also successfully created a daily habit, with many users logging in each morning to check on their farms. Interestingly, Farville became an onboarding tool for Farcaster itself, attracting players who engage with the game daily even if they don’t use Warpcast otherwise.

Our social features - such as donation requests, in-game trade channels, and leaderboards - proved effective in driving engagement. Competitiveness emerged naturally, with leaderboards motivating players to optimize their farms. Another surprise was the appreciation for sound design - players loved the soundtrack and effects, which added to the game’s laid-back atmosphere.

Not everything went smoothly. At times, we introduced game updates without fully considering their impact on the economy, leading to imbalances. For example, we initially capped player levels at 20, expecting it to take a month to reach - but players hit the cap in just 10 days. This showed us that level progression should be logarithmic, not linear, and that introducing leagues or seasonal resets could improve long-term engagement.

We also noticed that new players struggle with onboarding. The first playthrough can feel too slow - after planting, fertilizing, and harvesting their first crops, players have to wait six hours before they can engage meaningfully again. A guided tutorial and a better pacing system would help improve retention.

Other areas for improvement include tweaking requests/donations to feel less spammy, adding more rewards and incentives for daily quests, and introducing more “money sinks” to balance the economy. While players optimize for XP to compete on the leaderboard, their coin spending remains low because there aren’t enough compelling reasons to use in-game currency.

As we move toward the beta phase, we’re focusing on several key improvements:

• Quests Revamp: Daily and weekly quests now offer significantly more XP for lower-value crops, shifting the meta away from maxing out pumpkins. 

• New Level System: Progression is now logarithmic instead of linear, making higher levels more challenging but more rewarding. 

• Daily streaks: We will introduce rewards for players coming back daily, incentivizing habit creation

• Farming Efficiency: We've optimized backend operations to ensure a smoother experience with no more lag.

• Onchain Marketplace: We will introduce an onchain P2P marketplace for players to buy and sell items for profits or utility

• Worldcoin integration, expanding Farville into the Worldcoin ecosystem and exploring new opportunities for growth.

With these updates, we’re aiming to make Farville not just a fun farming game but a more immersive, social, and onchain-powered experience that players keep coming back to.

Betttr is a social sports betting and prediction market platform—initially launching on Farcaster and later expanding as a Worldcoin mini app built on the Azuro protocol. Its dynamic social features empower users to:

• Bet: Place your bets onchain on Base with USDC on multiple sports and events.

• Share Bet: Use Frames to share your bets with others, allowing them to place the same bet directly from your feed while earning referral bonuses, aka copybetting.

• Engage with the Community: Check out a comprehensive leaderboard featuring player stats, track ongoing bets, and even copy.

• Access Transparent Analytics: Dive into detailed player and bet analytics to showcase your expertise in sports - whether it’s football or a specific league like the NBA.

On the Betttr pre-save, you can place a mock bet on 2 football games. If you win, you'll have a 0% protocol fee for the first 2 weeks once Betttr is live. Share your bet with others on Farcaster, each referral earns you additional leaderboard points.

We decided to build Betttr because we see strong potential for product-market fit in prediction markets and betting apps. There are already great examples like Bracket (10k DAU and $10M volumes) showing strong user metrics. We want to create an app that secures a significant space in terms of user distribution.

We believe that prediction markets and betting apps can see massive growth by integrating social features, making the experience more engaging and interactive so we want to double down on this approach and test these social dynamics with experiments like copy betting or using onchain bet data for building a social leaderboard that validates users' predictive abilities, whether they're forecasting outcomes in general events or excelling in specific categories, like Premier League events.

By utilizing the Azuro protocol, we can significantly shorten development time while offering competitive odds and deep liquidity, advantages that would be nearly impossible to achieve if we had to build an onchain prediction protocol from scratch and rapidly secure liquidity.

Monetization is also clear: a protocol fee on user bets, a proven business model that fits well for this app.

Builders Garden was born at the end of 2023. It all started with a simple idea: take the amazing talent from urbe.eth and do three things really well—win hackathons, build awesome products, and support companies who need cutting-edge solutions.

At its core, Builders Garden is all about speed. We’re not your typical slow-moving agency. We combine top-tier quality with insane velocity, and our track record at hackathons proves it. Whether it’s Farcaster Frames, AI agents, or account abstraction, we’re always pushing boundaries and staying ahead of the curve.

And with the urbe.eth community backing us, we’ve got a deep bench of skilled builders ready to jump in at a moment’s notice. What started with just me (limone.eth), frankc.eth, and orbulo.eth, has grown into an 10 person squad by mid-2024. Shoutout to the crew: bianc8.eth, 0xcaso, itsmide.eth, blackicon.eth, drone, stepome, and mctflurry. This squad is 🔥.

We kept a low profile in our first year, focusing on building relationships with companies who believed in us. And wow, it paid off. We teamed up with big names like XMTP, Akasha, Talent Protocol, Airstack, and Request Network. Most of these partnerships came from hackathons—our secret weapon for showcasing what we can do.

But we didn’t just consult. We also took the time to build our own products. Projects like Stringz (a mobile-native Farcaster client) and Drift (a stablecoin-native POS) helped us test ideas and show what we’re capable of.

Now, we’re going all in on internal product development. It’s risky, but we’re betting big because we believe in what we’re building.

Mini-apps are the future, and we’re planting our flag here. Why? Two reasons:

1. Easy Distribution: These apps integrate directly into platforms like Farcaster and World App, where users are already hanging out. No need to fight for attention—it’s built-in.

2. Rapid Builds: Mini-apps are lightweight and quick to build. We can go from idea to launch in record time without draining resources.
