zkSync 是由Matter Labs 于2019 年推出的以太坊Layer 2 扩容解决方案，Matter Labs 的创办人Alex Gluchowski早期在以太坊基金会做Plasma 研究员( Plasma 是较为初阶的扩容解决方案)，2018 年创立了Matter Labs，zkSync 已获得多家知名VC 如a16z, Dragonfly 投资。

以太坊目前每秒可处理的交易数量( TPS )约为15 笔，目前的交易量是以太坊网络考量去中心化程度和安全性所做出的最优解(不可能三角)，以目前的科技短期内无法在相同条件下增加每秒交易量，所以有人提出了在第二层( Layer 2 )上处理执行交易，将以太坊作为结算和安全保护层，这样的设计也比较符合目前金融系统的结算结构，中央银行并不会纪录或是执行各家银行对用户的交易，而是各家银行自行处理，央行只负责最后结算，所以目前Layer 2 解决方案也被看作是以太坊面对大规模用户使用时的解方。

目前主流的Layer 2 解决方案主要有两种Optimism和ZK( Zero-Knowledge 又称零知识证明)，而zkSync 前的小写zk 即是代表他们是使用零知识证明的Layer 2 方案，以太坊的创办人Vitalik Buterin 在他的部落格内提到他对于这两种技术发展观点：

我自己的观点是在短期内Optimism Rollup 可能在一般的EVM 计算中胜出，而ZK Rollup 可能在简单的支付、交换和其他特定应用案例中胜出，但从中长期来看，随着ZK-SNARK技术的改进，ZK Rollup 将在所有案例中胜出。

Layer 2 与侧链有什么不同？ Layer 2

Layer 2 泛指链上安全性仍由Layer 1 保护的链，目前知名的Layer 2 项目有：Optimism 、Arbitrum、zkRollup 等。

侧链( Side Chain )

侧链指的是安全性与Layer 1 不相关的链，像是币安智能链本身安全性已经由BNB 持有者负责维护，以太坊不相关，这时币安智能链( 以太坊)就可以被称为以太坊( 币安智能链)的侧链，目前知名的以太坊侧链有：币安智能链、Terra、Avalanche 等。

验证者( Validators ) 验证者负责处理交易并打包区块，验证者也需要为交易提供一份交易零知识证明，证明交易过程都是正确没有舞弊，由于每个验证者都需质押代币，如果被保护者( Guardians )发现作恶，验证者将被惩罚并没收质押的代币，当验证者正确执行交易将获得代币奖励。

保护者( Guardians ) 保护者负责提名下一个区块的验证者以及监控区块是否被正确处理，成为保护者也需要质押代币，当交易正确执行保护者也将获得一部分的代币奖励，如果为恶，质押的代币也将会受到惩罚。

How to make a meme

This is a novel bridging method that combines optimistic oracles, bond relays, and unilateral liquidity pools to provide decentralized instant transactions from the aggregation chain to the Ethereum mainnet.

How Does Across Work?

Across is a bridging function and provides incentives to relayers to offer short-term loans to users on L1. These loans are repaid to the relayer within two hours, from liquidity pools on L1. The pool is refreshed once funds from the canonical L2 transfer settle. Transactions are insured using UMA’s Optimistic Oracle (OO), which acts as a dispute resolution layer.

The OO verifies and validates all contracts between the user transferring funds and the insurer earning the fee. Currently, users can bridge USDC, ETH and UMA from L2 Arbitrum to L1 Ethereum. Read more about the launch here.
