Trying out this mirror website right now. I figured I might as well write something that matters to me. With that said, I want to talk about EtherOrcs.

In my own words, it’s a blockchain game with assets minted on Ethereum while the game is played on Polygon. To quickly summarize my thoughts, I LOVE the game! :)

My love for this game needs context. First of all, I’m a 30-something gamer that is no longer able to play games. Real life has hit me hard and the time requirement to enjoy triple A games is something I can no longer commit. At the same time, the advent of micro transactions has changed the dynamics of video games. Having to constantly pay for premium features becomes an exercise in discipline because it is so easy to get caught up in a game and thus, overextending myself in these micro-transactions. With that said, EtherOrcs seems to be an enjoyable solution to these barriers.

For one, the nostalgia inducing vibes from my days of playing text-based web RPGs in the 90s has a great effect on me. I cherish those days and to have found a game that rewards me with the same feeling is like finding a treasure chest of gold.

On top of that, the ability to generate revenue intrigues me. It seems that economy-building will be an important aspect in blockchain games and it’s great to be a part of this experiment. I think there is room for so much innovation in this area but the prospects are huge, in my opinion.

Third, the time requirement to play the game is considerably less than other triple A games. Thus, the rewarding feeling against the time spent is quite efficient. Throw in the bonus of generating a bit of revenue and I’m as happy as can be.

Lastly, the community has been awesome! I think the founding team has a great vibe yet respect the challenges of being pioneers in this space. As an aside, I think hubris can easily get to teams in this space because of the volatile nature of crypto. I can only hope that the team stays grounded in their success and failures. Aside from the founding team, the players and discord members of EtherOrcs are not too dissimilar to a regular videogame community. This counts for a lot as it seems EtherOrcs has been attracting the proper userbase to give them the best chance for success.

With that, I’ve been typing away already for twenty minutes. I’d like to end this here. Cheers! :)
