Government agencies and non-governmental organizations often assume that there is no incentive to act in response to climate change, as climate change is often considered a remote issue. This concept of psychological distance seems to be popular, but researchers in the Netherlands have found that, in practice, most people consider climate change to be an important and urgent issue, even if its impact is not immediately apparent. Relevant research has recently been published in One Earth.

Anne M. van Valkengoed of the University of Groningen and his colleagues gathered a number of public opinion surveys that analysed perceptions of climate change, some of which included more than 100,000 people in 121 countries. The poll revealed that more than 50 per cent of participants believed that climate change was taking place and that it would affect their region in the near future.

“there is no consistent evidence that the remote psychological distance from climate change can hinder climate action.” Van Valkengoed said.

The Panel also analysed several findings aimed at testing the relationship between psychological distance and climate action. Of the 26 studies, only 9 found a positive correlation between psychological distance and climate action. Indeed, a number of studies have shown that treating climate change as a remote effect would lead to more action. The study also found that 25 of the 30 studies had failed to demonstrate that experimental reductions in psychological distances would increase action to combat climate change.

Researchers believe that a general misinterpretation of the relationship between psychological distance and climate action may in fact hinder progress in mitigating climate change.

China News Agency, Beijing, March 6 (reporter Wang Zumin) - on the second day of the Beijing winter Paralympic Games, the Chinese delegation continued to make great strides, sweeping four of the eight gold medals on that day, jumping to the top of the gold and medal lists with a stunning result of 16 medals, including 6 gold, 4 Silver and 6 copper. Ukraine (3 gold, 3 silver and 1 copper) and the Japanese delegation (2 gold and 2 copper) ranked second and third in the gold medal list respectively.

Paralympic cross-country skiing: the old horse is in charge of Carpinus, and China has won double gold medals

The Paralympic cross-country skiing with 20 minor events started the gold medal competition on the 6th, and the Chinese team won the championship of all two events on the same day.

In the first men’s long-distance sitting competition, Zheng Peng, 29, won the first gold medal in the winter Paralympic Games for the Chinese team in cross-country skiing. Mao Zhongwu, another Chinese player, won the silver medal and Du Tian won the fourth place.

At the Pingchang winter Paralympic Games four years ago, Zheng Peng won the fourth place in the 15 kilometer sitting position of cross-country skiing men, creating the best result of the Chinese team in the individual events of the winter Paralympic Games at that time. At that time, Zheng Peng said that he would win medals at the Beijing winter Paralympic Games. Now he not only got what he wanted, but also made the color of the medal gold.

In the subsequent women’s long-distance sitting competition, the Chinese women’s will not be less than to let Yang hongqiong and Li Panpan win the gold medal and bronze medal respectively. Among them, Yang hongqiong is a veteran nearly 33 years old, and Li Panpan has just celebrated her 30th birthday.

China’s Paralympic Winter sports started late, but Paralympic cross-country skiing is an earlier project in China. In the 2002 Winter Paralympic Games in Salt Lake City, the Chinese delegation first stepped on the stage of the winter Paralympic Games. At that time, cross-country skiing was one of the two major events participated by the Chinese team. At the previous winter Paralympic Games, the best result of the Chinese team in this event was to win the fourth place.

On March 6, Chinese player Zhang mengqiu celebrated his victory after the competition. On the same day, the Beijing 2022 winter Paralympic Games Paralympic women’s super slalom standing position final of alpine skiing was held in Yanqing national alpine skiing center, and Chinese contestant Zhang mengqiu won the gold medal. Photographed by China News Agency reporter Liu ranyang

Paralympic alpine skiing: kids in charge, China receives two more championships

Paralympic alpine skiing on the 6th produced 6 gold medals for women’s and men’s super giant slalom standing posture, sitting posture and visual impairment. After winning 2 silver and 1 copper on the first day, the Chinese team strongly won 2 gold medals, of which two new champion were under the age of 20.

In the women’s super slalom standing posture competition, Chinese player Zhang mengqiu won the championship. This is China’s first gold medal in the winter Paralympic Games in alpine skiing. It is also Zhang mengqiu’s second medal in this winter Paralympic Games, who will celebrate her 20th birthday in three days.

The men’s super giant slalom standing posture competition was another good news. 19-year-old Liang Jingyi won the sixth gold medal of the winter Paralympic Games for the Chinese delegation. Liang Jingyi finished fourth in the Paralympic alpine skiing men’s downhill standing competition on the 5th. She missed the medal and now finally made up for her regret.

32 year old veteran Zhu Daqing and 19-year-old Zhang Wenjing, who won the first snow event medal for the Chinese delegation in the winter Paralympic Games on the 5th, won bronze medals in the women’s super giant slalom - visually impaired and sitting events. Slovak and Japanese players won the two championships respectively.

Several outstanding athletes of the alpine skiing team of the Chinese Paralympic Games will be both in the five events of downhill, super giant slalom, slalom, slalom and all-round in this competition. Zhang mengqiu, Zhu Daqing and Liang Jingyi, who already hold medals, are expected to compete for the medal king of the Chinese delegation in this winter Paralympic Games.

China’s wheelchair curling suffered two consecutive defeats and produced 14 gold medals at the Paralympic Winter Games on the 7th

On the first two days of the Beijing winter Paralympic Games, the outside world had two “surprises” about the performance of the Chinese team - one was that the medals and even gold medals increased so fast and so greatly; Second, the wheelchair curling team, the “division of honor”, which achieved a breakthrough of zero gold medals in the winter Paralympic Games for China four years ago, will encounter two consecutive defeats at the beginning of the game.

After losing to Canada 3-7 on the 5th, the Chinese wheelchair curling team ushered in the second and strongest opponent Sweden on the morning of the 6th. In the end, the Chinese team lost 1-5 to the opponent defeated in the world championship final last year. It was difficult to win one after two wars.

On the evening of the 6th , the Chinese wheelchair curling team will also play Estonia. On the 7th, we continued the one-day double match against South Korea and Switzerland respectively.

China’s Paralympic ice hockey team beat Slovakia 7-0 on the evening of the 5th, making its perfect debut in the winter Paralympic stadium. On the evening of the 6th , the new winter Paralympic team will face the Czech team in the second game and strive for two consecutive victories.

Due to the schedule adjustment, 14 gold medals will be produced in the Beijing winter Paralympic Games on the 7th, including 6 gold medals for men and women in alpine skiing (originally produced on the 8th), 4 gold medals for men and women in cross-country skiing and 4 gold medals for men and women in obstacle chasing in snowboarding.
