Custom domains also enable you to implement additional security measures for your rollup’s public resources. You can add access control lists (ACLs) or your own rate-limiting to protect the explorer and endpoints from abuse or spam.

From your Network Overview page in the Conduit App, select Settings then Domains.

Make sure to update your own DNS records with the new CNAMEs.

We use Google as a certificate authority, it could take up to 24 hours for SSL certificates to be issued for your domains.

If you’re using a Cloudflare Proxy or similar service, you should turn this off, otherwise certificate renewal will fail.

If you’re still having trouble setting your custom domains, you can get support in the Conduit Discord or Farcaster channel.

You can deploy L3 testnets in the Conduit app by choosing L2 networks like Base, Mode, and Zora as a settlement layer. L3s deployed on Conduit use Celestia for data availability to minimize costs even further.

Base and OP Mainnet are examples of general-purpose L2 networks. They’re cheap, fast, and power hundreds of different applications.

But some applications need even cheaper compute and dedicated blockspace. L3s allow apps to stop competing with others for blockspace and scale into their demand. They also unlock new UX patterns. With low transaction fees, teams can recycle fee revenues and subsidize onboarding users at scale

L3s also enable developers to align themselves with an L2 ecosystem and utilize their distribution channels.

Base L3s can bootstrap with Base’s existing liquidity and the users of Coinbase products and services. L3s on Zora can build on their vibrant creator ecosystem, while Mode L3s can utilize their unique incentive mechanisms.

A few weeks ago, Jesse Pollak from Base put out a call to action for L3s. The demand was there, multiple teams wanted to deploy L3s on top of Base and other OP chains. However, L3 support in the OP Stack was not yet production-ready.

With this product milestone, we have accomplished one of Conduit’s earliest goals: make launching a rollup as easy as launching a database in the cloud. We started last year with a simple console where users could launch their own testnet rollups. Deploying to mainnet remained a daunting task, though, and we asked our users to schedule product demos so we could guide them through the process.

Now, with Conduit powering more than 20% of the rollups on mainnet, we believe the time is right to open the floodgates. Mainnet rollups are open to everybody!

Start by visiting the Deploy page on the Conduit app. Choose your rollup’s tech stack by selecting a framework, settlement layer, and data availability (DA) solution. The stacks that currently support self-serve mainnets are OP Stack chains with Celestia DA and Arbitrum Orbit chains that settle on Arbitrum One and use Ethereum or AnyTrust for data availability.

Once you choose a stack, enter your payment details, fund the deployer wallet with ETH, and watch your rollup deploy to mainnet!

Once deployed, you can watch logs in the app and view the metrics dashboard for visibility into your rollup.

The one-time cost of deploying your rollup contracts on the settlement layer. Pay these fees by funding the deployer wallet with ETH.

The projected monthly cost of posting your rollup’s data on the data availability layer. These DA costs are deducted from your sequencer revenue. If your costs exceed your revenue, you are billed for the difference at the end of the month.

Data availability accounts for 90-95% of the total costs of operating a rollup. When a rollup posts all of its data on Ethereum, it must compete with other applications for valuable blockspace. Although this will change after EIP-4844, the number of rollups competing for the limited blobspace will only increase over time.

Enter alternatives like Celestia, networks purpose-built to be secure and scalable data availability layers. By utilizing an alt-DA layer, a rollup can significantly reduce operating costs while still enabling anyone to verify its transaction data. Lower fixed costs mean lower barriers to entry for new rollups and better unit economics for existing ones!

At Conduit, we anticipate a future in which Celestia and other data availability layers power millions of rollups, ushering in an era of abundant blockspace. We led best-in-class teams like Aevo and Lyra through the process of migrating to Celestia, and in a few clicks, you can deploy your own rollup on Celestia in the Conduit App.

Celestia is a modular data availability network where rollups can publish their transaction data and make it available for anyone to download.

With data availability sampling (DAS), Celestia light nodes can verify that the data of a block is available without downloading the entire block. The more light nodes that participate in sampling, the more data the network can safely handle, without increasing the cost of verifying the chain.

If Celestia has downtime or is unavailable, Arbitrum Orbit and OP Stack chains can “fallback” to Ethereum for data availability. Conduit also developed an in-house solution for rollups to back up their calldata on Google Cloud. Both of these mechanisms ensure that, in the event a DA layer has disruptions, rollup users can continue to send transactions securely and their funds do not become stuck in the bridge contract.

Today we’re highlighting a critical aspect of our infrastructure, Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs), which we call the Conduit Hypernode.

Behind the Conduit Hypernode are our autoscaling RPCs, which dynamically and autonomously adapt to varying levels of RPC demand.

Ultimately this results in a fast and performant experience for apps and users, no matter the volume or traffic.

Other than performance, an important aspect of RPCs is providing easy, reliable access to their endpoints, enabling developers to seamlessly integrate with external apps and tooling.

Using the Conduit Hypernode, Dune Analytics were able to seamlessly integrate with Zora, providing data-rich, performant dashboards to the Zora Network.

AWS unlocked a decade of startups that could move more nimbly and build products that weren’t previously possible by building a cloud platform that abstracted away high-capital investment in hardware and ongoing operational expenses with maintaining that infrastructure. Running a single node sequencer setup, or even multiple sequencers with manual failover, makes offering best-in-class SLAs impossible, since you’re beholden to the SLA for one node failing which is typically 99.9%.

With Elector, Conduit runs three sequencers spread across datacenters that can dynamically decide who is currently producing blocks for the network. This allows us to push beyond a single node SLA to a multiple node SLA to reduce downtime by more than 50%.

Elector also allows Conduit to roll out software and infrastructure upgrades automatically with zero downtime. All Conduit OP Chains have been upgraded to use Elector and all new Conduit OP Chains will enjoy the Elector upgrade from genesis.

The OP stack standard configuration only comes with one sequencer. This means that if you need to make an update to the software, or if the node hosting your sequencer suffers hardware failure, then you will have sequencer downtime where the network is no longer producing any blocks. This means that transactions get delayed and users can’t interact with the blockchain.

An attempt at adding more reliability might look like adding multiple sequencer candidates as standbys, but failover typically requires additional infrastructure and manual intervention. Manual intervention tends to rely on alerting, which means that recovery times may lag into the tens of minutes, or even longer than an hour.

While manual intervention may be feasible if you’re running a single rollup network, for Conduit, where we run hundreds of chains across testnet and mainnet, we needed to build an automated solution.

Conduit Elector is an automated election protocol that runs as a consensus layer on top of the OP Stack that decides which sequencer is currently producing blocks for the network.

Sequencers can give up their leadership preemptively, as they might do when their code is getting upgraded, which will allow a new sequencer to seamlessly step up to become the leader. Or if a hardware failure causes a sequencer to go down, Elector will notice after the leadership timeout and elect a new sequencer to produce blocks.

We’ve deeply integrated Elector with Kubernetes (K8s) to match the lifecycle of deployments, terminations, and other types of cloud-native events in order to maximize the resilience of Conduit OP Chains.

With Conduit Elector we offer 99.95%+ SLAs out of the box for every Conduit OP Chain. This means that we can finally offer our best-in-class Enterprise Tier SLAs for every customer. 

Elector also allows us to roll out upgrades, configuration changes, or hard forks with zero downtime. No longer are upgrades a scary all-hands-on-deck event, instead they can become business as usual.

With Elector, Conduit continues to push the boundary of what’s possible on the infrastructure front for rollups. Arbitrum Orbit is Conduit's second rollup stack, joining Conduit's existing offering of the OP Stack-powered Superchain that powers customers like Zora, Gitcoin, Aevo and more.

With the consent of the Arbitrum DAO, customers will also be able to deploy their own dedicated L2s on top of Ethereum using the Orbit stack.

All Conduit Orbit Chains will be able to leverage Arbitrum’s newest innovation: Stylus¹.

Stylus is a new WASM-based VM that allows developers to write smart contracts in a variety of languages, such as Rust and C++, that are able to interoperate synchronously with the EVM.

Aevo was the first OP Stack fork on mainnet, having launched earlier this year in April. They use Conduit for operating and maintaining their high performance chain that traders on their platform have come to rely on. Conduit has invested thousands of engineering hours to make its deployments reliable, scalable, and secure.

Onchain exchanges like Uniswap, because they primarily exist on Ethereum or other shared layers, were too expensive for the volume of trades that Aevo wanted to serve and too slow for TradFi traders accustomed to instant order confirmations.

On the other hand, centralized exchanges are much easier to use, but lack the transparency into their solvency and operations, since everything is offchain.

In order to bring more traders onchain, Aevo decided they needed to launch their own app chain. This allowed them to benefit from greater transparency, by keeping funds and exchange logic onchain, while also reaping the benefits of lower gas fees and higher throughput on their own rollup.

During the time Aevo were exploring providers, Conduit didn’t actually exist yet. Instead, Aevo reached out to another provider available at the time to operate their rollup.

Fast forward a few months, Conduit now had a fully self-serve Rollups-as-a-Service (RaaS) product with best-in-class infrastructure, and Julian Koh, CEO of Aevo, reached out to explore Conduit’s offering.

While on our first call, the Aevo team realized that their initial provider was using an old version of the Optimism codebase which wouldn’t be receiving any new improvements or updates and had a lot of legacy tech debt.

Conduit and Aevo worked closely together to migrate Aevo’s application to a rollup hosted and operated by Conduit. Receiving all the latest improvements and updates from the newest version of Optimism’s codebase while being hosted on best-in-class Conduit infrastructure.

Conduit was able to work closely with the Aevo team to hit their deadlines and launch dates seamlessly.

Aevo were on an aggressive timeline, having needed to migrate from their previous provider to Conduit, they didn’t want to waste any time deploying to mainnet.

But the journey didn’t end there – Conduit is always shipping improvements to both our product and service so that we continue to provide value to our customers beyond mainnet launch. As Conduit’s first customer, Aevo has a unique lens into the platform’s growth and maturity.

Zora recently released a new network, which utilizes Conduit's Rollups-as-a-Service (RaaS) platform to operate and manage its OP Chain rollup built on top of the Optimism Collective's OP Stack and settling to Ethereum.

Zora has gone all-in on creating the premiere platform for creatives and artists to showcase their work and engage with fans. In pursuit of providing the best possible user experience, Zora envisioned running their own rollup to provide the cheapest fees and dedicated capacity, while still being secured by Ethereum.

Zora started by running an OP Chain internally. It was relatively easy to spin up, however it was clear that securing and maintaining the network would not be a simple task.

While this allowed them to validate their hypotheses around cheaper fees, as well as integrating with their existing stack, they quickly realized that they didn’t have bandwidth to dedicate to hosting, operating, and maintaining their rollup in a production environment, let alone for a dedicated testnet.

Infrastructure is challenging, especially with blockchains that require additional services around them, like block explorers and transaction tracers.

With Conduit, Zora was able to spin up their own OP Chain testnet on Goerli through Conduit’s self-serve RaaS platform. It took less than 5 minutes, and came with a ready-made Blockscout block explorer and samczsun’s transaction tracer. There was no need to schedule a demo, or a long laborious sales call to go through to get started.

This full development suite allowed them to quickly integrate, debug, and monitor their Conduit testnet.

Furthermore, Conduit handles scaling, upgrades, reliability, and security automatically. We also handle all the additional operational work around running a rollup in production on mainnet, like accounting and compliance.

Soon the day came to deploy their OP Chain to mainnet. The same infrastructure and automation that allows Conduit to host self-serve testnets, also allows it to deploy to mainnet in less than 10 minutes.

Moreover, because Conduit’s RaaS platform has been built for automation from the start, adding additional features and upgrades to Zora’s mainnet was effortless.

When Zora was ready to go public, less than a month after spinning up their testnet, Conduit was on hand to provide support and monitor Zora’s mainnet infrastructure. The launch went smoothly which allowed everyone to focus on Zora Network and their vision, instead of battling infrastructure issues. Importantly, Conduit was able to get Zora to market quickly, saving them months of critical engineering time.
