For me, the real magic happens in the hand-off. Having a mobile setup that doesn't just "exist" on its own, but perfectly syncs with my Linux desktop, turns dead time into deep work. Whether I’m capturing a fleeting idea or managing a packed schedule, these are the Android apps that keep my workflow fluid and my systems intact, no matter where I am.

Obsidian.md: Personal Knowledge Vault

Knowledge Management is a vital habit to practice; In order to be an effective individual, the modern professional must recall detailed information about a variety of subjects and processes at any time.

Obsidian is a powerful notes and knowledge management system that uses Markdown files and bidirectional linking to create a personal Second Brain. With Obsidian's built-in file linking, you can easily connect together thoughts and ideas to create a more organised and intuitive knowledge base.

Notes are stored locally on-device as plain-text Markdown.md files. This gives you complete control and Data Sovereignty over your notes and where it lives.

My Obsidian Vault has become an indispensable part of my daily productivity routine. Everything from my daily reminders and journal entries to code documentation goes into my vault.

Obsidian on Android is as pleasant to use as it is on desktop, and so my Second Brain remains available wherever I go.

Notes can be easily be synced across devices using free cloud services or using the paid Obsidian Sync plugin. And with loads of community plugins and themes, Obsidian can be customised to each individual's needs.

Graph View is another great Obsidian feature that everyone loves. (Look at all the pretty Graph Views on /r/ObsidianMD)

Obsidian Graph View is more than just nice to look at. It allows me to visualise my progress and acts as a psychological motivator that drives me to grow my knowledge base, and make connections between ideas.

Knowledge is only useful once it is distilled and linked to something concrete. And I'm only getting started… All the un-linked dots represents collected but still unrefined knowledge.

Firefox for Android / Obsidian Web Clipper

The Obsidian Web Clipper browser extension is an essential part of using Obsidian on my Linux desktop. I'm one hotkey away from clipping any web page straight into my vault (∩｀-´)⊃━☆ﾟ.*･

Firefox for Android is currently the only mobile browser that supports extensions, which means it's the only way to use Obsidian Web Clipper on the go.

FeedFlow: The Minimalist News Feed

Next to managing knowledge is gathering up-to-date information, but it may feel impossible to stay in touch with the world while also avoiding the Brain Rot that is social media. Luckily the answer is nearly as old as the Web itself and still thriving: Really Simple Syndication!

There are many RSS feed readers available on the app stores, but it's mostly bloatware and ads.

FeedFlow is a Free and Open Source RSS news feed reader that cuts the bloat and does what it's meant to do — send news to my phone!

Finding the right RSS feeds to subscribe to can be daunting if you don't know what to look for. FeedFlow has built-in Feed Suggestions to get you started right away, and Categories to keep it all organised.

Reading is a pleasure in the Distraction-Free Reader that removes the noise and leaves you only with the content you want. The reader can also be set to automatically download feeds for off-line reading.

I also like the Home Screen Widget that comes packed with FeedFlow, which let's me see the latest headlines without opening the app. You can also set a different default browser within the app to separate your news-reading habits from everyday browsing.

But the real selling point for me is that FeedFlow is Open Source and available on GitHub.

The CCC Stack: Communicate, Collaborate & Coordinate

Working together is at the heart of what we do, and efficient collaboration requires effective tooling. The most resilient stacks are built using modular components that can be adapted to fit each use case.

CCC Stack is based on three functional pillars:

• Asynchronous Communication: Using video messaging services like Loom to replace lengthy email updates, or for quick product demos.

• Real-time Collaboration: Using live video conferencing tools like Zoom for when you need instant feedback and participation.

• Automated Coordination: Using automated scheduling systems like Calendly to manage the flow and keep it going.

Why this setup?

I chose these specific apps because they are easy to set up, integrate seamlessly with other apps, and offer generous free tiers for individuals. They also play nice with Linux and modern web standards. ( MS TEAMS! (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻ )

Ultimately, the stack you use will depend on your organisation's unique goals, but these three Android apps represent the core values of the CCC Stack.

Your phone is either a distraction machine or a productivity powerhouse. These apps have turned mine into an extension of my Linux workflow so that I can stay on top of what matters. The key isn't working harder from your phone; it's making sure the work you do capture actually goes somewhere useful.

My journey toward keyboard mastery began seventeen years ago with the release of Ubuntu 9.10, the "Karmic Koala". As the case is with most people who start out using Linux, I spent the first while hopping distros and desktop environments. This is how I discovered the world of Tiling Window Managers, and I fell in love with the keyboard-centric workflow.

Yet, despite nearly two decades in the Linux ecosystem, it has taken me this long to fully appreciate the potential of a tool that was right under my nose: XCompose.

Now to clarify, being a KeyboardPro™ isn't about speed. I'm no 100+ WPM stallion myself, but my solid 80 WPM is always something to behold for the average KeyboardNoob.

The KeyboardPro™ approach is about:

• Ending the mouse fatigue caused by copy-pasting special characters from the character map

• Automating entering repetitive snippets of text, such as email signatures, terminal commands, or code boiler-plates.

Side Note: I'm aware that (sometimes better) alternatives exist for some of the use cases I will mention, but XCompose is shipped by default by nearly every GNU/Linux distribution so requires no extra package installation.

Setting Up Your Compose Key

Linux Implementation

To begin, all you need to do is select a Compose* Key.

This is typically either the Right Alt or the Menu [≡] key. This can be done easily via the GUI settings in GNOME or KDE, or via the terminal using the command setxkbmap -option compose:ralt.

Once assigned, you can immediately start using all the compose sequences defined in the system default Compose file.

To view all Compose Sequences that are available on your system, run the following command:

less /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose

Microsoft Windows Parity

While XCompose is a Linux standard utility, you can achieve a similar workflow on Windows using the WinCompse utility.

Use Cases

Basic Tier

Foreign Languages Characters

One of the most common usages is to add special language characters to text.

As a native speaker of a West-Germanic language I frequently need to enter characters such as ë, and ô in writing, and entering compose-key sequences is far more intuitive than memorising Unicode or Alt-code numeric sequences.

To type a special character enter the compose sequence by pressing one key at a time. For instance:

• â = Compose + ^ + a

• é = Compose + ' + e

• ì = Compose + ` + i

• ö = Compose + " + o

English and General Symbols

Another common use case is to easily insert various symbols to make your writing look more polished and professional — or to use Em-dashes to make people think your text was generated by A.I… ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Intermediate Tier

The real power of XCompose is unlocked when you define your own custom input sequences. To do this, create a .XCompose file in your home directory:

nano ~/.XCompose

And add the following line at the top to include the default system sequences:

The syntax is easy enough to understand and modify so go crazy and add as many custom input sequences as you need, but remember to make your sequences mnemonic so that is easy to recall and use.

Advanced Tier

Beyond entering single characters and emotes, XCompose can also be used to speed up typing repetitive terminal commands, add text snippets like email signatures, and even boilerplate code.

It's worth noting that XCompose doesn't have any advanced templating features such as variables, although this can be achieved to some degree with environment variables. If this is something you need more consistently, you'll be better off with a dedicated tool.

If you have ever watched Scambaiting YouTube channels such as Scammer Payback, Kitboga or Jim Browning, you've seen how likely it is for Senior Citizens to be targeted in various scams and phishing attacks. The elderly are high-value targets and most at risk for financial loss due to scams.

Surprisingly, the younger generation doesn't fair any better either. Dark Reading reports that Gen Z falls for scams 2x more than older generations. Those who grew up with technology have a false sense of security. They click faster, reuse passwords, and trust popular platforms, making them susceptible to social media and P2P payment scams, like Zelle or Venmo.

What's more is that scammers have upped their game with the use of A.I to create even more convincing campaigns.

So in order to help combat this barrage and deliver a service to my local community, I decided to vibe with my own A.I to build the Anti-Scam Assistance Toolkit, a collection of Markdown document templates to aid in incident response and educate victims.

The idea behind the Anti-Scam Assistance Toolkit

The goal of this project is simple:

Turn scam response into a structured service, not a panic-driven reaction.

The repository provides an operational workflow package that can be adapted by:

• Local tech support services

• Small businesses offering IT support

• Cyber security practitioners

• Community or volunteer anti-scam initiatives

What’s inside the toolkit

The core materials are broken into functional components that you can adopt incrementally.

Client Onboarding

Structured intake forms and agreements designed to:

• Capture accurate information early

• Set expectations clearly

• Establish consent and scope

This alone removes a surprising amount of chaos from scam response.

• Scam category (phishing, impersonation, investment fraud, tech support scam, etc.)

This prevents the common mistake of treating all scams the same.

Real-world scam scenarios this toolkit is built for

1. The “Urgent Supplier Payment” scam

A small business receives an email that looks like a known supplier requesting updated banking details. Payment is made. Hours later, the real supplier calls.

Without a workflow, the response is panic.
With a workflow, you immediately:

• Freeze accounts

• Gather exact transaction data

• Contact the bank using the right language

• Document everything for escalation

2. The “Remote Support” tech scam

An elderly client installs remote software after a cold call. Their email and banking access are compromised.
