Blood stained the wooden floor beneath it. Yet, what caught my heart wasn’t the pain or the blood—but the words written beside it:

"I’m not a dangerous animal and I won’t hurt you. I was just hungry." 😥😥

It took me back—way back to my early years in Alagbado , Lagos State.

There was a young boy in our compound named Chima. He was always dirty, always sneaking into kitchens when no one was looking.

At least once a week, someone would shout, “That Chima don carry my garri again oh!”

I remember how we mocked him. Called him “thief.”

Some adults would beat him up. One woman even tied him to a tree once, under the hot sun, for taking a piece of fried fish.

But what we didn’t know—what we never even asked—was that Chima was just hungry.

His mother had died when he was six. His father, a drunk, barely returned home with enough money to buy a sachet of pure water. Most nights, Chima and his younger sister slept on empty stomachs.

So, he learned to steal to survive. He learned to beg, to sneak, to be smart.

And while the world saw a thief, what he truly was… was a boy in pain.

Now, years later, I see this mouse crying in a trap and I see Chima’s face.

I see the countless boys and girls in our streets.

I see the bus conductors who shout angrily—not because they enjoy it, but because life has never been kind.

I see the prostitutes in Allen Avenue , the young cult boys in Agege,

The jobless graduates walking the streets of Lagos and Abuja,

The countless prisoners in cells not because they’re wicked—but because they were just hungry.. 😥

Remember this piece is not an excuse to commit crime but to create a deeper thought,

Hunger isn’t always about food.

Some people are hungry for love.

Some are hungry for peace.

Some are hungry for hope.

Some are just hungry to be noticed—to be seen as human.

But what does society do?

We set traps.

We judge before asking questions.

We condemn before listening.

We punish without understanding.

And sadly, sometimes, even the Church—yes, the place meant for healing—becomes a trap too.. 😥

A brother falls into sin and we throw him out. A sister comes pregnant and we push her to the back. But have we ever stopped to ask: Why did she fall? What hunger was she trying to feed?

Beloved, this world is full of "mice"—innocent souls trapped not because they wanted to destroy anything, but because they were just trying to survive.

That boy who stole your phone may have lost both parents.

That girl in makeup and tight jeans may be the breadwinner of her family.

That man who sleeps under the bridge may once have been a promising young graduate—until life dealt him a bad card.

Let me ask you sincerely:

How many people have you judged lately without understanding their hunger?

How many "mice" have you set traps for in your heart—silently condemning them because their scars were too messy for your clean world?

The Bible says in Proverbs 21:13, “Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.”

Every soul you ignore, every cry you silence, every pain you mock—you’re setting a trap for your own day of hunger.

My dear friend, life is deeper than appearances.

Sometimes, all a person needs is a listening ear, a plate of food, a kind word, or even just a smile.

Don’t be too quick to condemn.

Don’t let your heart become a trap.

Choose mercy. 👌

Choose kindness.🙌

Choose love.🎉

Do you know that, the small mouse in that image... Is....

That’s someone in your street today.

That’s a child in your church.

That’s your neighbour.

That could be you tomorrow.

Let this message touch your heart.

And if it does,, Appreciate me for sharing my thoughts

How to Avoid Tax in 2026?

If you still run your business in your personal name, you are quietly walking into tax troubles in 2026 and

the tax man will deal with you. Why?

Assuming your monthly sales is just N500,000 running a small provisions or medicine shop/store, with you as the proprietor and your children as your workers.

With the new tax regime that will commence in January, 2026, you are going to be affected negatively because every business activities will be carried out in your personal name.

This is how many small business owners will enter tax man wahala next year. Not because they are making millions and do not want to pay taxes but simply because they are doing business the wrong way. Remember, ignorance is not an excuse in Law.

By operating a business in your personal name and bank account, you will be taxed under the Personal Income Tax (PIT) Law. This means that all cash inflows into your bank account will be recognized as incomes. And according to the new Nigerian tax laws, any person who earns above ₦800,000 per year is taxable. So, once your bank account shows a total inflow of more than N800,000 in a year, you will pay tax on the excess. It does not matter whether you are selling moin-moin or akamu, or chin-chin or you are an artisan or a contractor, or a POS operator.

So, a small business with a total inflows of N500,000 monthly will be subjected to tax because the inflows will be recognized as personal income. That amounts to N6,000,000 in a year. This means that N5,200,000 (N6m-N800,000) will be subjected to tax where graduated tax rates will be applied after adjusting for necessary allowances like Rent (max. of N500,000).

If you are however living in your personal house, you will not enjoy this allowance. So, the entire N5.2 million will be subjected to the tax rates and your tax per annum will be about N870,000!

From January 2026, transactions monitoring will be more strict than before. Don't even think of opening many bank accounts to receive inflows from your business. More bank charges will be paid. And BVN will be used to link them as being owned by you.

This tax can be avoided by taking the following steps:

Step 1 - Quickly register your business as a Limited Liability Company (LTD), not as a business name or an enterprise.

As a limited liability company, that N6m inflow is a peanut and will not qualify for tax payment.

This is because under the new tax rules, a company with a turnover below ₦100m will pay Zero income tax. It means your business will be completely exempted from company income tax.

Step 2: Open a bank account in the name of the company. The bank should be used for all transactions relating to the company. The bank statement for the account will later show inflows (sales revenue) and outflows (expenses) of the companies.

There should be no spending or transfers for personal use from the account.

Anytime you want to spend money on the activities of the company

(rent, restocking, transport, POS charges, data, food for staff, repairs, etc.), use the bank account. This will automatically create a clean financial history.

Step 3 - Ensure you keep receipts of ALL expenses of the company. Once the expenses are wholly for the purpose of the company, they will be referred to as 'Allowable expenses' and removed from revenue.

So, you must keep receipts of your shop rent, goods purchase, haulage fees, transport cost, data purchased, generator fuel, POS charges, etc.

Step 4: Hire a professional accountant to help you prepare and audit your account, using your records and bank statement. For your category of business, it costs less. The benefits far outweigh the cost.

At the end of a year when you file your annual returns, your taxable profit be zero and no tax to be paid! Yes, no tax payment on the N6 million because the amount will be subjected to Company Income Tax Laws and it is not up to N100 million, which is the minimum turnover for a company to be qualified to pay taxes, starting from 2026.

Hence, before January 1st 2026, register your business as a Limited Liability Company, separate personal money from business money; keep receipts of all company's expenses; and file annual returns (you can do it yourself at any FIRS office).

My name is alexdphenom I hope this piece of information is useful to you 🙏

*STOP SAYING *“STANDING ON ALREADY ESTABLISHED PROTOCOLS”*

*— USE REAL ENGLISH IN FORMAL SPEECHES.*

Public speaking—especially in formal settings like official events, academic ceremonies, and government functions—demands clarity, correctness, and professionalism. Unfortunately, phrases like “Standing on all existing protocols” and “All protocols duly observed” are commonly used across Africa and other post-colonial regions, particularly by MCs, clergy, and public officials. While they may seem respectful, they are not correct in standard English usage and are not recognized in formal international communication.

Let’s explore why these expressions should be dropped—and what to say instead.

❌ PHRASE 1: *

“STANDING ON ALL EXISTING PROTOCOLS”*

This phrase is meant to save time by skipping the full list of names or titles of dignitaries present. But despite the intention, the phrase is wrong—grammatically and logically.

Why it’s incorrect:

🔴 “Standing on” is a misuse of the verb.

You don’t stand on protocols—neither physically nor metaphorically. It’s a mistranslation of a cultural intent to show respect.

🔴 “All existing protocols” is vague.

Protocols refer to procedures or formal courtesies, not people. Saying you’re “standing on” them doesn’t convey any real meaning in English.

🔴 It’s not recognised in any formal English register.

It’s a localized cliché, not international or standard usage.

🔴 It’s rooted in the imitation of colonial ceremonial habits, but with an incorrect syntax that’s been passed down over time without correction.

🔴 It lacks clarity and could leave a foreign audience confused or unimpressed.

Wrong Example:

> “Standing on all existing protocols, I greet you all.” ❌

Better Alternative:

“I respectfully greet all dignitaries and guests present.” ✅

❌ PHRASE 2: *“ALL PROTOCOLS DULY OBSERVED”*

At first glance, this sounds formal and polished. But it’s still problematic.

Why it’s incorrect:

🔴 It’s a sentence fragment.

There is no subject and no complete verb, so it doesn’t qualify as a proper sentence.

🔴 It’s vague and overused.

It communicates very little and sounds like a placeholder instead of genuine respect.

🔴 It’s not used in standard British or international English.

Watch speeches by world leaders or UN officials—you’ll almost never hear this phrase used.

🔴 It assumes the audience understands what “protocols” refers to.

But “protocols” are not people—they are formal procedures or hierarchies.

Wrong Example:

> “All protocols duly observed…” ❌

Better Alternative:

“May I extend my warm greetings to all dignitaries and esteemed guests.” ✅

✅ BETTER WAYS TO GREET A DIGNIFIED AUDIENCE

Here are respectful, polished, and grammatically correct alternatives that maintain decorum while sounding natural and professional:

📌 “I respectfully acknowledge all dignitaries present.”

📌 “Permit me to honour and greet all esteemed guests and participants.”

📌 “I recognize the presence of distinguished personalities and warmly welcome you.”

📌 “It is a privilege to address such a distinguished gathering today.”

📌 “With sincere respect to everyone present, I offer my greetings.”

📌 “Allow me to extend my heartfelt greetings to all in attendance.”

📌 “I acknowledge the presence of our respected leaders, officials, and guests.”

📌 “I am honoured to be speaking before such an illustrious audience.”

📌 “Your Excellencies, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen—I salute you all.”

🧠 *PRO TIP FOR PUBLIC SPEAKERS*

To sound and act professionally, take time to research the names, titles, and hierarchy of key dignitaries.

Some people do ask " WHAT DO WOMEN REALLY WANT ?

some answered financial security

Some answered love and attention

Some say just respect and adoration

But I don't think it's so because I gave all this and more to TOLU my beautiful wife yet fooled me....

I invited 200 guests to my 10th Wedding Anniversary just to play a video of my wife sleeping with her Gym Instructor on the massive projector screen.

They say revenge is a dish best served cold. Mine was served frozen.

My wife, Tolu, is currently rolling on the floor of the Event Hall in Ikeja, crying and begging. Her mother has fainted. Her pastor is pretending to be on a phone call.

But I am sitting in my G-Wagon, drinking a cold bottle of water, feeling lighter than air.

For the past ten years, I was the "Mugu." The ATM. The foolish husband.

I work on an Oil Rig. I spend two weeks at sea, two weeks at home. I sent Tolu millions to start businesses that always "failed." I built a house in her father’s village. I bought her a Range Rover for her last birthday.

We have three beautiful children. Or so I thought.

Six months ago, our last born, Davidson, fell sick. He needed blood. I rushed to the hospital, rolling up my sleeves, ready to donate.

The Doctor, who is my old secondary school classmate, pulled me into his office. He looked uncomfortable.

“Bro, your blood type is O Negative,” he said. “Tolu is O Positive. The boy is AB Positive.”

I laughed. “What does that mean? Biology was not my best subject.”

He didn't laugh. “It means, biologically, it is impossible for you to be the father.”

My world stopped.

I told him to run a DNA test on all three kids.

I waited for two weeks. Those two weeks were hell. I looked at Tolu sleeping beside me, snoring peacefully, and I wanted to strangle her. But I kept quiet.

The results came back.

Child 1 (Junior): 0% Probability of Paternity.

Child 2 (Sandra): 0% Probability of Paternity.

Child 3 (Davidson): 0% Probability of Paternity.

I had been training another man’s platoon for 10 years.

I didn't scream. I didn't fight. I didn't even ask her.

Instead, I told her, “Baby, for our 10th Anniversary, I want to give you the wedding of your dreams. A Vow Renewal.” story by jerry smith

She screamed in excitement. She called all her friends. She bought Aso-ebi for her family. She booked the most expensive makeup artist in Lagos.

I paid for everything. I hired the biggest hall. I invited her entire village, her church members, her "Gym Instructor" (who I found out was the father of the second child), and my colleagues.

Today was the D-Day.

The hall was packed. The MC announced, “And now, a special video tribute from the husband to his lovely wife!”

Tolu was sitting on the high table, smiling like a queen, waving at the crowd.

The lights went dim. The projector screen came down.

Everyone expected a montage of our romantic photos.

Instead, the DNA results appeared on the screen. Huge, bold letters.

PROBABILITY OF PATERNITY: 0%.

The crowd went silent. You could hear a pin drop.

Then, the next slide played. It was a video I had paid a private investigator to record. It showed Tolu entering a hotel room with her Gym Instructor. It showed them kissing.

The chaos that followed was beautiful.

Tolu screamed and tried to run to the projector, but she tripped on her expensive gown. Her father stood up and held his chest.

I simply walked up to the microphone.

“The house has been sold,” I said calmly. “The cars have been retrieved. The divorce papers are on the table. Tolu, you can go home with your Gym Instructor. He is the father of your children.”

I dropped the mic and walked out.

As I drive to the airport now to catch my flight to the Maldives for a solo vacation, my phone is blowing up.

Some people are saying I was too cruel. They say I should have covered her shame for the sake of the children. They say I am heartless to disgrace a woman publicly like that.

But I feel peace.

Did I go too far? Or did she deserve the public humiliation?

#alexdphenom

Your words, actions, and love can transform lives, heal broken hearts, and build unshakeable bonds. Invest wisely in the people around you, and watch as your life becomes a masterpiece of love, joy, and purpose.

In a world that often values wealth and power above all else, remember that it's the quiet moments of kindness, the whispered words of encouragement, and the tears of empathy that truly define us. Your presence, your listening ear, and your open heart are the greatest gifts you can give to those around you.

Don't let the noise of the world drown out the whispers of your soul. It’s not a neighborhood political club anyone can join.

NO.

The Chinese Communist Party is an ELITE.

You don’t get in just because you want to.

You get in because you are SELECTED.

And who gets selected?

ELITES.

TRAINED individuals.

EDUCATED individuals.

POWERFUL people.

People who have already proven their ability to think STRATEGICALLY, ECONOMICALLY, and POLITICALLY.

Why this model?

Why not let the people choose, like in other countries?

Because China’s system is based on a BRUTAL but REALISTIC observation:

Someone who is poor, who doesn’t know if they’ll have food tonight, who doesn’t know if they’ll survive the night… cannot possibly have the clarity of mind needed to choose a country’s president.

Yes, it’s hard to hear.

But it’s the TRUTH.

Someone who can’t even understand their own life… can’t understand the life of a country.

Do you really think a poor person who knows nothing about geopolitics, economics, international relations, industrial strategies, national defense… can wisely choose who should govern a power like CHINA?

I don’t think so.

You can be emotional, shouting “democracy, democracy,” but China is PRAGMATIC.

It prefers to entrust the governance of its people to TRAINED MINDS, to people who have been SELECTED, SCREENED, TRAINED for this.

Because if you can’t govern your own life, how can you choose a leader for 1.4 billion people?

That’s why in China, it’s not the people who vote.

It’s the Chinese Communist Party that chooses.

And even to be part of that Party, you need a certain LEVEL, a TRACK RECORD, ACHIEVEMENTS.

Power is not earned through emotional ballots —

it is earned through COMPETENCE, RIGOR, DISCIPLINE, and PROOF.

In China, they don’t play with the future of the nation.

They don’t bet on the ignorant majority.

They give responsibility to those who have proven they can carry the weight of reality.

Something to think about.

⸻

HERE ARE 4 POWERFUL STRATEGIC LESSONS FROM THE CHINESE GOVERNANCE MODEL

⸻

1⃣. COMPETENCE OUTWEIGHS POPULAR OPINION

LESSON: A nation or company grows when it is led by the most competent — not the loudest.

China doesn’t leave its destiny to chance or popular emotion.

It selects leaders based on merit, experience, performance, and discipline.

RESULT: In 40 years, it rose from a developing country to the 2nd largest economy in the world — and soon possibly the first.

While other countries elect leaders based on promises and slogans, China puts STRATEGISTS at the helm of its future.

⸻

2⃣. ELITES ARE NOT A THREAT WHEN WELL MANAGED — THEY ARE A NECESSITY

LESSON: If you want elite results, you need elites in charge.

In China, being in the Communist Party is the pinnacle of meritocracy.

You don’t get there by populism. You get there by intelligence, rigor, loyalty, and results.

These are the people who make major decisions for the country.

This strategy helped China lift over 800 million people out of poverty in 30 years,

create giants like Huawei, Alibaba, Tencent,

and position itself as a global leader in technology, infrastructure, and AI.

⸻

3⃣. STABILITY IS BETTER THAN DEMOCRATIC CHAOS

LESSON: Long-term construction requires avoiding impulsive course changes.

China doesn’t change direction every five years.

It plans 30, 50, even 100 years ahead.

Mega-projects like the Belt and Road Initiative, the development of megacities, or technological dominance are planned across generations.

Why? Because power is stable, centralized, and thoughtful.

Meanwhile, other nations spend their time making and undoing public policies after each election — leading to instability, waste, and stagnation.

⸻

4⃣. GUIDED COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE IS MORE EFFECTIVE THAN THE ILLUSION OF FREEDOM

LESSON: A population guided by a clear vision moves faster than one drowning in disorder.

China made a bet: train its elites and entrust them with the task of guiding the masses.

RESULT:

Swift decisions, infrastructure built in weeks, a booming digital economy, and rising global influence.

Meanwhile, countries where “everyone gives their opinion” struggle to build a simple bridge or pass a strategic law.

China ACTS while others TALK!

THE EXPECTED ROLES OF INTELLECTUALS IS TO CHALLENGE AUTHORITIES, EXPOSING INJUSTICE AND ADVOCATING FOR TRUTH AND NOT TO SERVE THEM

Intellectuals have long served as the moral and philosophical compass of society, tasked with the critical responsibility of questioning power, exposing injustices, and advocating for truth. Their role is not to serve authority blindly but to scrutinize its actions, challenge its excesses, and ensure accountability. In an era of increasing political polarization, misinformation, and authoritarian tendencies, the duty of intellectuals to resist complacency and confront systemic failures has never been more urgent than it is now.

The Necessity Of Challenging Authority A society that discourages dissent stagnates, while one that embraces critical discourse thrives. Intellectuals must challenge authority for several fundamental reasons:

Encouraging Critical Thought

By interrogating dominant narratives, intellectuals foster a culture of inquiry, pushing individuals to think independently rather than accept dogma.

They expose contradictions in policy and ideology, enabling a more informed public discourse.

Ensuring Accountability

Power, when unchecked, tends toward corruption and abuses. Intellectuals act as watchdogs, demanding transparency and ethical governance.

Historical examples, from Socrates to Edward Snowden, demonstrate how truth-tellers prevent authoritarian overreach.

Catalyzing Social Progress

Every major social advancement, civil rights, gender equality, environmental protections, has been driven by intellectuals and activists who dared to challenge the status quo.

Silence in the face of injustice perpetuates oppression; vocal dissent paves the way for reform.

The Perils Of Intellectual Subservience To Power
When intellectuals align themselves uncritically with authority, the consequences are dire:

Moral Complicity

Scholars and thinkers who remain silent in the face of state violence, corruption, or human rights violations become enablers of oppression.

History condemns those who justified colonialism, fascism, or apartheid under the guise of loyalty to power.

Erosion Of Democratic Values

A society where intellectuals self-censor or parrot state propaganda loses its capacity for self-correction.

Authoritarian regimes thrive when dissent is suppressed; intellectuals must resist becoming instruments of repression.

Stifling Innovation And Progress

Intellectual conformity breeds stagnation. The greatest breakthroughs in science, philosophy, and politics arise from questioning established norms.

When fear silences critique, society forfeits its ability to evolve.

The True Vocation Of The Intellectual Genuine intellectuals must embrace their role as society’s conscience by:

Speaking Truth To Power

Refusing to sanitize uncomfortable truths, even at personal risk.

Amplifying marginalized voices that challenge dominant power structures.

Promoting Rigorous, Independent Thought

Rejecting ideological dogmas, whether state-sponsored or popular, in favor of evidence-based reasoning.

Encouraging open debate rather than partisan echo chambers.

Advocating For Justice And Equity

Using knowledge as a tool for liberation, not oppression.

Aligning with movements that seek to dismantle systemic inequality rather than uphold it.

Conclusion
The measure of an intellectual lies not in their proximity to power but in their courage to defy it when necessary. To serve authority uncritically is a betrayal of their vocation; to challenge it is a moral imperative. In a world grappling with rising authoritarianism, environmental collapse, and social inequity, intellectuals must remain steadfast in their commitment to truth, justice, and the relentless pursuit of a better society. Their silence is complicity, their dissent, a necessity.

Key Lessons

Intellectuals must resist becoming tools of authority and instead serve as its critics.

Challenging power ensures accountability, prevents abuses, and drives progress.

The cost of silence is far greater than the risk of speaking out.

The choice is clear: intellectuals must either stand for truth or be complicit in its suppression. The future of an equitable society depends on their resolve.

#alexdphenom

She was screaming my name, her wig falling off, her hands in the air.

I sipped my champagne, turned my phone to Airplane Mode, and buckled my seatbelt.

I am not a victim. I am not asking for your pity. I am asking for a round of applause.

They say revenge is a dish best served cold. I served mine frozen.

My name is Kelvin. Six months ago, I found out that Sandra, the woman I married and sponsored through her Masters degree, was sleeping with our landlord.

I didn't catch them in bed. I didn't see a text message.

I saw the DNA test results for our set of twins.

"0% Probability of Paternity."

The landlord, a short, pot-bellied man who always complained about maintenance fees, was the father of my children.

I didn't cry. I didn't confront her. I didn't break bottles or shout like a madman.

I went to work. I smiled when I came home. I played with the twins.

But inside, I began to draw a map. A map out of this marriage and into a new life.

Sandra had one weakness. She was obsessed with Japa. She wanted to move to the UK more than she wanted air to breathe.

So, I gave her a dream.

"Baby," I told her one evening over dinner. "I got the job. The Tech company in London. They are paying for everything. Relocation allowance, visa for the whole family, everything."

She screamed. She jumped on me. She called her mother. "Mama, we are going to London."

I told her there was a condition.

"The company requires us to show Proof of Funds in our Nigerian account. We need to liquidate our assets here to show we have ties to nothing."

She agreed.

She was so blinded by the lights of London that she didn't read the documents I gave her to sign.

We sold her boutique.

We sold the land her late father left her in Lekki.

We sold her jewelry.

The money came into my account. Over 45 Million Naira.

"Don't worry, baby," I said. "I will convert it to Pounds when we get to Heathrow."

I forged the Visa documents. I am a Graphic Designer, so it was child's play. I printed out convincing Certificates of Sponsorship and Visa Approvals.

She packed her bags. She gave her clothes to her friends. She did a Send forth party. She insulted her enemies. "I am leaving this dirty country for you people," she boasted.

We got to the airport today at 6:00 AM.

I had my real passport and a real ticket to Dubai.

She had her fake documents and a printout that was worth less than toilet paper.

When we got to the Check In counter, I told her, "Honey, let me quickly use the restroom. You stay in the queue."

She nodded, adjusting her expensive sunglasses. "Be fast, baby. London is waiting."

I walked to the restroom, took the back exit, and went straight to the other terminal where my actual flight was boarding.

I sat by the window and watched.

I watched as the airline staff checked her papers.

I watched as they frowned.

I watched as they called the supervisor.

I watched as Sandra started shouting, "My husband has the original. He is in the toilet."

Then the Police came.

They checked the documents. Fake. Forgery.

She looked around, searching for me.

I sent her one last WhatsApp message before I boarded.

"The Landlord can pay for your bail. The twins are his, so the bills are his. Have a safe flight to nowhere, Sandra."

I saw her look at her phone. I saw the moment her soul left her body. She collapsed on the floor.

As my plane taxied on the runway, I felt lighter.

I have 45 Million Naira in my Bitcoin wallet. I am single. I am free.

Some of you will say I am wicked. You will say I went too far.

But tell me...

If you found out you had been raising another man's children for 4 years, paying school fees for the landlord's seed, would you have walked away? Or would you have burned the bridge, the river, and the boat?

Don't cheat on a patient man. We don't get angry. We get even.

Cheers to my new life. 🥂 😜😜

#alexdphenom

*WHEN THE BALLOT IS COMPROMISED, THE BULLET BECOMES THE LAST ARBITER - THE SAD REALITY OF AFRICA*

Let’s stop pretending. Africa’s recent wave of military takeovers did not fall from the sky, and they are not happening because soldiers suddenly developed an appetite for political power. They are happening because many so-called “democratic” governments on the continent have lost the moral right to govern. When elections themselves become a crime scene—bought, rigged, manipulated and auctioned to the highest bidder—what exactly remains of democracy?

Democracy, we are taught, is the government of the people, by the people and for the people. These are not decorative words. They are the constitutional and moral pillars on which legitimacy stands. But what do we call a system where votes are monetized, the electoral empire serves political mafias, and results are manufactured long before citizens line up to vote? Certainly not democracy. It is, at best, a government of the few, by the few and for their friends—a clever civilian disguise for minority dictatorship.

And when this distortion becomes the norm rather than the exception, when citizens themselves lose the belief that their vote matters, the entire edifice of democracy collapses from within. A ballot stripped of integrity is nothing more than a piece of paper. When the ballot is compromised, the people’s mandate is stolen, and the promise of democratic choice becomes a hollow ceremony. In that vacuum of legitimacy, power naturally seeks alternative arbitration—and history has shown that, in Africa, the bullet often becomes the final arbiter.

In this void stands one institution Africans did not choose yesterday, did not elect today, but established constitutionally to protect the state: the military. The armed forces were not created to govern, yes. But they were created by the people to guarantee the continuity and survival of the nation. When reckless civilian leadership pushes a country toward the cliff—through corruption, constitutional manipulation, vote-buying, and raw impunity—the military instinctively moves to stop the fall. That does not make coups ideal. But it does explain why they keep happening—and why populations, however reluctantly, often accept them as a temporary antidote to democratic betrayal.

Let’s be honest: Africans are not welcoming soldiers because they prefer boots to ballots. They are welcoming them because ballots no longer mean anything. Because elections across the continent have been reduced to transactional auctions where citizens are spectators, not sovereigns. Because leaders rewrite constitutions with the casualness of signing a hotel guestbook. Because institutions meant to check power now kneel before it.

A democracy that does not reflect the will of the people is democracy in costume—a dangerous masquerade that invites instability. And when the system becomes deaf to the cries of the governed, the guns eventually start speaking. A nation cannot remain silent when citizens are screaming for justice but the political class responds with arrogance. And when that silence from above becomes unbearable, the military—rightly or wrongly—interprets it as a call to intervene. This is the brutal arithmetic of failed democracies.

Military intervention, in many cases, is not the cause of Africa’s crisis—it is the consequence. A reaction, not a plan. A desperate attempt to halt national collapse when every civilian mechanism has failed or been compromised by those in power. Countries do not wake up one morning and choose coups; they are pushed into them by decayed political cultures that reward manipulation over merit, money over mandate, and force over fairness. When leaders behave as though they are above the constitution, they inadvertently invite those who see themselves as guardians of the state to restore balance—however imperfect that “restoration” may be.

The uncomfortable truth is simple:

If Africa wants coups to end, Africa must fix its democracy.

Stop selling votes.

Stop buying power.

Stop rigging outcomes.

Stop rewriting constitutions to stay in office forever.

Stop governing against the people and start governing from them.

Stop turning democratic institutions into private estates.

Until African leaders understand that legitimacy cannot be purchased, manipulated or declared by force, the continent will continue to bounce between broken elections and “corrective” military interventions. A nation that vandalizes its own democracy should not feign surprise when soldiers step in to sweep up the debris.

The real danger is not the soldier at the gate.

The real danger is the politician who destroys democracy from within—quietly, slowly, legally, and shamelessly. The soldier arrives only after the politician has finished the demolition work.

When elections become a crime scene, coups will remain a consequence. When the ballot is compromised, the bullet becomes the last arbiter. Unfortunately, that is the sad reality of Africa.

#alexdphenom

Rachel a 23 years old single mother was on a flight for her sisters wedding, she looks exhausted as she tries to calm her baby who has been crying all through.

The crying pierced through the airplane cabin like a siren, causing heads to turn and passengers to shift uncomfortably in their seats. Rachel Martinez clutched her six-month-old daughter, Sophia, closer to her chest, whispering desperate apologies to anyone within earshot. The baby's whales seemed to echo louder in the confined space of the economy section, and Rachel could feel the weight of judgmental staires boring into her back.

Please, sweetheart, please," she whispered, bouncing Sophia gently, while tears of exhaustion threatened to spill from her own eyes. The young mother had been awake for nearly 36 hours straight, having worked a double shift at the diner before catching this redeye flight from Los Angeles to Chicago. The ticket had cost her every penny of her savings, but she had no choice.

Her sister Carmen was getting married in 2 days, and despite their strained relationship, Rachel couldn't miss it. At 23, Rachel looked older than her years. Dark circles shadowed her brown eyes, and her once vibrant smile had been worn thin by months of struggling to make ends meet as a single mother. Her ex-boyfriend had disappeared the moment she told him about the pregnancy, leaving her to navigate parenthood alone in a studio apartment that barely qualified as livable.

Every day was a battle between paying for diapers or groceries, between keeping the lights on or buying Sophia's formula. The flight attendant, a stern-looking woman in her 50s, approached with barely concealed irritation. "Mom, you need to keep your baby quiet. Other passengers are trying to rest." "I'm trying," Rachel whispered, her voice cracking.

"She's usually such a good baby, but she hasn't slept properly in days. The change in routine, the noise." She trailed off, knowing her explanations sounded like excuses. Sophia's cries intensified, and Rachel noticed several passengers pulling out their phones, likely to record her embarrassment.

Her face burned with shame as she realized she was becoming one of those stories people would share online. "The inconsiderate mother, who ruined everyone's flight." "Maybe you should have thought about that before booking a flight," muttered an elderly man across the aisle, loud enough for her to hear.

Rachel's eyes filled with tears. She had considered driving, but her old Honda had broken down 3 weeks ago, and she couldn't afford the repairs. This flight was her only option, booked with money she should have used for next month's rent. She was already dreading the conversation with her landlord when she returned. Just as she was about to retreat to the airplane bathroom to try calming Sophia in private, a gentle voice spoke beside her.

"Excuse me, would you mind if I tried something?" Rachel looked up to see a man in an expensive looking navy suit, probably in his early 30s, with kind blue eyes and perfectly styled dark hair. Everything about him screamed wealth and success, from his Italian leather shoes to the platinum watch on his wrist. He was the type of man who belonged in first class, not squeezed into economy seating.

I What? Rachel stammered, confused by his unexpected offer. I have experience with babies, he said with a warm smile. My sister has three kids, and I've learned a few tricks over the years. Sometimes a different voice or touch can help.

Would you trust me to try?" Rachel hesitated. She had learned to be wary of strangers, especially men who showed sudden interest in her and Sophia.

To be continued....

#alexdphenom

This story is not to CONDEM not to sabotage the igbo adventurous nature but to encourage remember home mentality in the igbos in diaspora. there's needs to always return home.

An Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba parent sent their son abroad to study.

The Hausa son returns immediately upon graduation and takes up a job in public service. No matter how low the pay is, they stay and grow gradually.

The Yoruba looks for an opportunity abroad, works for some time (5yrs Max) and returns back to Nigeria to work for an expatriate company or a private sector company.

The Igbo son just like the Yoruba looks for an opportunity abroad, secures a good-paying job, settles down abroad and vow never to return to Nigeria again.

In the next 10 years, he is married and has kids who dont even know how to speak Igbo. The next project is to bring all family members abroad who in turn, follow the footpath of their brother by refusing to return to Nigeria.

Now the whole family is abroad with only parents living in Nigeria.

In 15 years,

The Igbo son is now an influential Software Engineer in one company in Canada.

The Hausa man is the Commissioner of Police in the Igbo man hometown.

The Yoruba dude is currently the senior Network Engr of the mobile line the Igbo man’s father uses in his state.

The Igbo man sends money home to build a mansion in his village. No development!

The Hausa man recruits 50 of his people into the force— creates employment.

The Yoruba man writes to his state government of his company's intention to sponsor 20 Nigerians abroad for study, and he can facilitate 15 to come from his state —Transfer of skill.

As the Yorubas and Hausas are taken over the private and public sector jobs in Nigeria respectively, the Igbo man are deserting and littering their states with mansions but no company.

Ask Igbo man to invest in his region; he will narrate countless reasons it is not a good idea. But, upon death, he would be rushed home to be buried. I have made this point before and repeating it: there must be an extraordinary burial levy on any Igbo person that is well off but with zero factories in Igboland.

Aku ruo Ulo is not when I build mansion anymore. We must change this narrative for good. Aku ruo Ulo must now mean creating jobs for the Igbos in Igboland. Aku ruo Ulo must include building institutions for those striving to survive in Igboland and not hotels.

Igbos always brag about being in control of trade and commerce. Well, the bad news is that in the next 10 years, the buying lifestyle or behaviour of an average buyer would change. They won't be visiting lock-up stalls. They would most likely buy online or visit malls.

What are we doing to upgrade the trading skills of our Igbo brothers to meet up with the advancement of technology and innovation?

We can not leave this alone to our governors. Some are trying while others are clueless. Only a few government officials understand the importance of capacity (re)building and utilisation. We must start (re)building our capacity to remain competitive at home just how we are competitive abroad.

Those at home must be empowered to remain home to avoid the rush out syndrome. It will also reduce the increased cases of fast lane.

The reason I am making this post is simple; if we don't change, we may not have a place to call home in the next 30years.

Igboland would be deserted. Umunna and Umuada meeting would no longer hold in villages but abroad. You will begin to see umuada Mbaise meeting in California. Umuada Neni Brisbane branch. Umunna Nnewi Tokyo general meeting.

We must make hay while the sun is still shining.

My name is #alexdphenom I write to uplift and encourage 💕 ✅
