Where We Came From

Dango didn’t start as a perps exchange. It started as a frustration. After building through previous cycles, it became clear that most on-chain trading systems were built around constraints that no longer needed to exist. Too many shortcuts, too many compromises, too many systems stitched together. So instead of iterating on what was already there, we started from zero. We built the chain, the exchange, and the system to work together from the start. Then came the testnets. Over the final run alone, more than 166,000 unique Ethereum addresses connected, over 5 million transactions were executed, and 98,000 OATs were claimed. Tens of thousands of usernames were created. More importantly, the system was pushed until things broke. That wasn’t hype. It was real usage. And everything that broke there is something we fixed before getting here.

What Dango Is

Dango is not just a perps venue. It’s a trading environment built from the ground up, on its own chain, where everything is designed to work together. A real order book instead of an AMM. Matching that doesn’t just reward speed. One account across everything. Most platforms adapt to the chain they’re on. We built the chain to fit the product. Execution, accounts, and trading logic are designed as one system, not stitched together after the fact. The goal is simple. Make on-chain trading feel like it should have from the start - fast, fair, and actually usable.

What’s Live Today

We’re starting with what matters. Blue-chip perpetual markets.ETH-PERP, BTC-PERP, SOL-PERP, and HYPE-PERP are live, with one or two additional majors expected to follow as liquidity builds. We’re deliberately starting focused so depth forms properly. Leverage begins at 20x for BTC and ETH, and 10x for SOL and HYPE. Over time, leverage will increase as the system matures. Limit and market orders are supported, alongside take profit and stop loss. Fees follow a clear maker and taker structure. Nothing complicated. You place an order, and it behaves how you expect.

Why It Feels Different

If the last cycle proved anything, it’s that speed alone doesn’t build better markets. Most perps platforms reward whoever is fastest. Dango takes a different approach. Orders are grouped and matched together in short intervals, rather than instantly. That changes the dynamic. Execution becomes more balanced. Price discovery becomes cleaner. Before we get into what’s live, what’s coming, and why this matters, let’s take one step back.

Dango is a new kind of chain. A high-performance L1 with a fully on-chain CLOB at its core. A super DeFi app built for serious on-chain trading, but packaged with the smoothness of a CEX. Most chains are designed and then the apps figure themselves out later. We flipped that. We designed the exchange first, then built the chain around it. Everything you felt on testnet came from that philosophy.

What’s Live on Mainnet Alpha

Alpha is our “early access” chapter. It’s not meant to be comfortable. It’s meant to be stable enough to start pushing real flows through the system while we tighten every bolt.

Instead I walked into a full-blown on-chain space program disguised as a DeFi app.

And now here we are, months later, with Larry dropping a roadmap a week or so ago that made the team more bullish than ever before:

I still remember nodding confidently while reading it, pretending I wasn’t sweating.

Looking Back: Testnet-3 Was Beautiful Chaos

Testnet-3 hit:

• 166,000+ Ethereum addresses

• 5 million+ transactions

• Tens of thousands of usernames created

• And more “is the chain down or is it me?” messages than I can count

We had bumps at the start.
We fixed them.
Then we had new ones.
Then we fixed those too.

Testnets are a lot like IKEA furniture: you only realise what’s wrong once 40,000 people try to sit on it at the same time.

But that’s the point — everything that broke then won’t break now.

Inside the Team: The Alpha Pressure Cooker

Alpha is right there. Imminent. Coming in hot.

And the mood inside the team?
Imagine everyone heads down, everyone pointing in the same direction.

Alpha will launch in a tight, controlled environment to make sure everything behaves under real pressure. And even with that narrower scope, it is still the full Dango experience under the hood.

The funniest thing about being inside Dango is realising the team isn’t scared of the market at all.

Everyone knows the space is full of DEX lookalikes.

When I first joined Dango, I wasn’t told to “revive DeFi” or “change the game.” I was told to have fun.

That felt weird at first. Everyone else in the space was talking about volumes, emissions, TVL, yield APRs — all the usual DeFi bingo cards. But Dango’s approach felt different. Behind the charts and code, the vibe was more “let’s make DeFi fun again” — not in a meme way, but in a real way. The kind of fun that made people open new tabs, try new chains, and experiment like it was 2020 again.

And after spending a few weeks inside, I get why that matters.

What Sets Dango Apart

DeFi got serious — too serious. Somewhere along the way, the joy of building and trying things vanished. Every new DEX looks the same. Every launch is “the next evolution.” And every “innovation” ends up as another AMM fork with a new coat of paint.

Dango breaks that mold because it’s not chasing old DeFi blueprints. It’s a clean slate.

The Challenges Ahead

Let’s be real: this isn’t an easy path.

The on-chain trading market is packed. Every month, a new perps DEX drops claiming it’s “next-gen.” Liquidity is fragmented, traders are fatigued, and the marketing arms race is loud enough to drown out even the best ideas.

Building in that kind of noise is tough. But maybe that’s the point.

Dango doesn’t need to be louder, it needs to be better. And it’s betting that better UX, fairer market structure, and stronger community will outlast whatever’s trending this month.

The team knows they’re entering a saturated market, but they also know the current model’s broken. AMMs were a compromise. Latency-arb and toxic flow are still draining LPs. And “fair launch” perps DEXs still feel like the same old casino with better lighting.

If we’re serious about reviving DeFi, it’s not about chasing yield or hyping TVL. It’s about rebuilding trust and excitement from the ground up — user by user, order by order.

Final Thoughts

Being the intern here, I see both sides: the big vision and the grind behind it. The long nights fixing testnet bugs. The community feedback. The small wins that feel huge when you’re building something new.

There’s no illusion that it’ll be easy. But there’s also no fear. Just conviction — that if Dango keeps its promise to make DeFi fun, fast, and fair, the rest will follow.

As you can imagine, by the testnet’s end our plate was full with community feedback and requests which we were determined to review and implement before rolling out testnet-2, and that’s precisely what we’ve done. We won’t edge you any longer, let’s get you caught up with the biggest and baddest upgrades hitting testnet-1.5:

• We made numerous bug fixes

• The browser now remembers your username(s). You’ll never need to type again when signing in.

• Still forgot your username somehow? You can now provide your credential, and the app will look for associated usernames.

• You’ll now receive notifications when you send or receive tokens, trade with our DEX, etc.

• Block explorer is live. To access it, simply enter your account address or a transaction hash in the search bar. The explorer is quite basic at the moment, but we’ll keep improving it throughout the next few weeks.

Also, it goes without saying, but please remember the DEX is merely a prototype, and not the final product. Our pools aren’t yet leveraging concentrated liquidity, and our ultra-low latency oracle is also yet to come into effect. Price execution and UX definitely won’t be flawless, but to paraphrase Marilyn Monroe as she once so eloquently put it, 'if you can't handle us at our worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve us at our best’.

Without getting too technical, let’s look at some of the pain points Dango addresses. DeFi in its current state is fragmented with too few apps spread across too many chains, like remote islands separated by great swathes of ocean. Rather than connecting them together with thousands of individual bridges, we believe in creating one universal island for everyone, the Dango Portal. In this single UI you’ll onboard, manage your accounts, deposit or withdraw assets, and interact with every app on the Dango chain.

Unmatched convenience

Picture the end game of convenience stores, open 24/7, aisle after aisle as far as the eye can see filled with everything you could ever need, and more. This is how the Dango Portal should feel, one central hub with dozens of apps that just makes your life easier. We hate moving assets between different chains and flicking between different tabs as much as the next person, but thankfully with Dango you’ll never have to again.

UX that won’t make you self harm

Another unspoken truth is that the average user experience in DeFi is still horrific. It’s not without coincidence that ~80% of crypto trading volume still sits on CEXs as opposed to DEXs; they’re faster, have stronger customer support, better on-ramps, and liquidity deep enough for even the greatest of whales. DeFi is in desperate need of a venue that can go toe to toe on UI/UX with these movers and shakers of the CeFi world, and that’s just what we intend to do. ‘But how?’, I hear you ask.

Firstly, we’re simplifying the onboarding process to a point where even your grandma could do it (I’m not joking). When signing up, instead of generating a seed phrase, you’ll choose a username, such as @larry, just as you’d do when signing up for Twitter or Instagram. Forget about the hassle and headache of setting up a wallet and topping it up with gas, the future of DeFi is key-less and gas-less.

Turning traders into winners

The innovation doesn’t stop there. We’re also pioneering a cross-collateralized, unified account system in DeFi. Let’s say you’re bullish on Bitcoin as an example, and you go to bed with a 20x leveraged long perps position open. If the price moves quickly and violently to the downside overnight, there’s a good chance you’re waking up to a rude liquidation notice. With Dango, however, your spot exposure can act as collateral for your perps position, potentially preventing you from reaching that dreaded liquidation threshold long enough for Bitcoin to recover and for you to be in profit again. Pretty neat, wouldn’t you agree?

But we know perps aren’t for everyone, and that’s why we’re also trailblazing a first-of-its-kind onchain margin account, so you can still leverage up but without getting shaken down by expensive funding rates. How does it work in practice? As an example, anyone can deposit $100 BTC into their margin account, borrow $200 of USDC, and swap that USDC to BTC. That’s 3x leverage achieved without having to visit any third party money markets or manually loop (because let’s be real, who has time for that?). Whatever your risk profile, Dango has something for everyone.

The ultimate liquidity flywheel

Lastly, but not least, we’re walking a different path to most other trading venues by implementing frequent batch auctions (FBAs) to prevent front running and stimulate the ultimate liquidity fly wheel. Rather than settling everyone’s orders continuously in real-time, orders are instead bundled together every 0.2-0.5 seconds and settled in a uniform price auction, meaning everyone gets filled at the same price.

Not only does this prevent sandwich attacks, but it’s favourable for market makers as they no longer have to compete over a few milliseconds latency. By having more market makers Dango can provide deeper liquidity, thus attracting more traders, which is conducive to more trading volume, which will ultimately attract even more market makers, and so the cycle repeats. It’s no wonder ~10% of all equity trading volume in Europe already takes place on exchanges that use FBAs (see Cboe as an example) since its introduction in academia less than 10 years ago, and we believe it’s only a matter of time before DeFi follows suit.

The Dango devs have been deving around the clock to ship our first public testnet as fast as humanly possible, and now the time has finally come! Say hello to testnet-1, the inception of our all-in-one DeFi hub where you can help battle test Dango in its earliest, most basic form. Let’s get straight into it and whizz through some of Dango’s first features that we’d love for you to come and try!

Pick your username

You can create a Dango account with an existing EVM wallet (e.g. Metamask) or Passkeys (just be aware that if you use Passkeys, you’ll need to link an EVM wallet to your account in settings to complete our Galxe quest). Either way you’ll create an onchain username such as @Larry, just as you’d do when signing up for Twitter or Instagram. Under this username you’ll soon be able to trade, earn, and do almost anything on Dango chain that your heart desires…

Create your first subaccount

Once you’ve signed up, you can open a subaccount. Simply click on the search bar on the home page and choose ‘Account Creation’ from the drop-down menu . Choose whether you want to add a spot or a margin account, fund it with some USDC, and ta-da – your second account will appear! Trading isn’t live just yet, but it won’t be long before you can start putting Dango’s novel order book design and leverage capabilities to the test.

Transfer some tokens

In testnet-1, you can also transfer tokens between Dango accounts by clicking the ‘Transfer’ icon on the home screen. Not sure whom to send tokens to? You can transfer between your own accounts, find someone in our Discord, or just send them to the intern’s personal wallet (use ‘intern’ as the destination address).

To celebrate the launch of testnet-1, we’ve released the next instalment in our Galxe OAT series – the Dango Testnet Wizard. This OAT is available for 2 weeks and can be obtained by helping us field test Dango at this early stage in our second Galxe quest.
