The Gitcoin Grants Round 15 ran from September 7-15, 2022. Close to $4.4M will be distributed to 1,495 grants for public goods.

Since 2017, Gitcoin.co runs a grants round every quarter. Historically, some cornerstone dApps, like Uniswap, 1inch and Snapshot, have been launched thanks to this kind of web3-native fundraising initiatives. My personal contribution 75 DAI (~75.75 EUR). An allocation of 5 DAI was granted to every one of the 15 projects founded. I sent out the funds on the Ethereum blockchain by interacting with the "Gitcoin: Bulk Checkout" smart contract (address: 0x7d655c57f71464b6f83811c55d84009cd9f5221c). I feel excited for the growing web3 ecosystem. Until recently, It was impossible for me to finance tech startups in the real world. The procedures and legal requirements do not reserve a seat at the table for immigrants, refugees and low-income individuals.

From June 8th to 23rd 2022, Gitcoin Grants Round 14 was open to funders who are willing to provide financial support to open source projects. $4.9M was distributed to public goods as part of the round, of which $3.2M came from the combined matching pools and $1.7M was contributed by the Gitcoin community.

There was record-breaking community participation with over 44,000 contributors making just shy of 600,000 contributions to over 1,250 grants.

The donation was processed on the Ethereum blockchain by interacting with the smart contract Gitcoin: Bulk Checkout. The transaction fee was equal to 10,32 EUR (0.0058 ETH).

By following a sentiment of belief into the future utility of ENS names, I continued to acquire these NFTs by following a geographic/physical location theme. Most of all recently-acquired domain names are identical to European cities in Belgium and Luxembourg.

To make up my mind and decide what to purchase, I searched on Wikipedia the most populous municipalities in Belgium and the major towns in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Some valuable names were already registered. But, I managed to grab fairly good ones at nice prices.

Few of them are culturally-significant, like waasland or titeuf. Others are river names, like sambre or schelde. One reflects the brand name of my digital art gallery made of photography NFT artworks: awalkaday.

Here is the full list of ENS domain names that I recently acquired: bastogne, arlon, wiltz, schaerbeek, evere, wavre, verviers, etterbeek, vilvoorde, tienen, waasland, diekirch, waremme, ettelbruck, clervaux, willebroek, meuse, eupen, schelde, escaut, sambre, titeuf, awalkaday, tongeren and hainaut.

Accounting-wise, a total amount equivalent to 0.3423 ETH (approximately 270 DAI at the time of transactions) was spent to acquire the 25 domains on the Ethereum blockchain.

0.1969 ETH was spent on gas fees and 0.1454 ETH on ENS fees.

In my personal life, the Spring season landed with a promise of employment granted by a local IT company. Therefore, I’ve decided to purchase some pieces of real estate in order to establish my virtual foothold in this region. Obviously, not by buying some land property on Earth. But, by collecting three digital properties which are based on a decentralized blockchain.

Yeah, you could have guessed it by now. The inspiration came from my physical location. I have been living in Bastogne (Belgium) since mid-2020 after the suspension of lock-downs laws in the country.

Bastogne is a nice, quiet and small city that is located in the southeastern part of Belgium, nearby the border with another European country (Luxembourg). Arlon is our provincial capital city and a renowned cultural center of the Belgian Ardennes region. Wiltz is a canton’s main city located in the northwestern part of Luxembourg.

Arlon has historical importance that originates from the Roman and medieval times and is situated at the crossroads of three countries: Belgium, Luxembourg and France. Bastogne and Wiltz have been engraved in humanity’s history as the lands on which the Battle of the Bulge was fought and won by American soldiers towards the end of World War II. The links between these cities create a geographic region, in the shape of a triangle, which is prosperous, under-priced and particularly hilly.

These ENS domain names will be held under the custody of daqhris.eth Crypto Growth Fund. I envision holding them by following a long-term investment strategy plan. My expectation is that their value will steadily rise as long as the dApps adoption curve goes up in the Benelux region.

I am willing to reward a couple of subdomains to humanitarian endeavors integrated with the Ethereum protocol (e.g.: donate.wiltz.eth or help.bastogne.eth). Just get in touch by sending an email in which you explain the vision of such a charity mission.

For business innovators who want to use simplified cryptocurrency addresses, I will consider accepting purchase requests for your preferred subdomains after the first 5 years of on-chain inactivity. There is no rush to sell. Let’s patiently build long-lasting and future-proof digital brands (e.g: taxi.arlon.eth or hotel.bastogne.eth).
