It is a “vampire” binary system.</p><p>By analyzing the data observed by the very large telescope, ESO believes that HR 6819 is a three-star system with a black hole. One star orbits the black hole in a 40 day revolution cycle, and the other star runs in a wider orbit. However, the research team from Belgium believes that this is a binary system, and one of the stars absorbs most of the material from its companion star, which makes us mistakenly believe that we have observed a black hole in a short time. This kind of object is usually called “vampire star”.</p><p>Now, it is recognized as a binary system</p><p>In order to solve the mystery of HR 6819, the two teams worked together to obtain the latest and clearer data of HR 6819 by using ESO’s very large telescope (VLT) and very large telescope interferometer (VLTI).
