Story Node Setup

Story's architecture separates execution and consensus clients, significantly enhancing the network's scalability and efficiency. This design eliminates the bottleneck of execution transaction throughput.

To run a node, you'll need two key components: the story-geth execution client and the story consensus client.

Prerequisite

Before diving in, let's ensure we meet the prerequisites for setting up a Story node:

• CPU: 4 Cores

• Memory: 16 GB RAM

• Disk: 500 GB SSD

• Machine: Ubuntu 22.04+

Script Execution

Our automated setup script simplifies node deployment by handling quick installation with snapshots and Cosmovisor setup for automated updates.

During installation, you need to select which type of node to run:

• Full Node: Full historical state

• Pruned Node: Optimized for recent state

Use the following script to install the node:

Synchronizing Your Node

After installation, wait for the node to fully synchronize. The command below should return false:

Non-native wallets, on the other hand, can interact with the Fuel network through fuel connectors. At the core of this tool are predicates - innovative, stateless smart contracts that power these connectors, bridging the gap between different wallet ecosystems.

The fuel connectors enable users to securely utilize their preferred EVM or SVM wallets on the Fuel network. For instance, users can interact with the Fuel network using popular wallets like MetaMask, Phantom, Rabby, Backpack, Rainbow, Keplr, and more.

How does this work?

When using connectors with your EVM or SVM addresses, Fuel associates them with a predicate that replicates your wallet signatures on Fuel, creating a corresponding Fuel address.

Every signature you make with your EVM or SVM wallet is assessed by the predicate. This allows any wallet to interface with dApps on Ignition, providing a seamless experience when using Fuel.

These predicates, which replicate your signatures, are entirely non-custodial—you alone control them through your signatures.

Important: When using your existing EVM or SVM wallets with Fuel, there's no need to import your seed phrase to the Fuel wallet. Remember to always keep your seed phrase safe and private!

Using Non-Native Wallets

Fuel Connectors offer compatibility with various wallets, enabling you to use your EVM or SVM wallets on Fuel Ignition. However, it's important to understand the difference between native and non-native wallets.

Non-native wallets may have limited functionality compared to native ones. Over time, these limitations will be addressed as wallet providers directly integrate the Fuel network.

Balance Visibility

Asset balances are visible on Ignition dApps and the Fuel explorer. However, non-native wallets like MetaMask can't display these assets directly within their interface.

Getting Started with a Fuel Node

By running your own Fuel node, you can execute a higher number of queries without rate limits and gain full control over your interactions on the Fuel blockchain.

Sepolia API Key

Before running a node, you'll need a Sepolia API key. You can obtain one from any RPC provider such as Alchemy or Infura.

Please ensure you're using the correct endpoints for the Sepolia network. Otherwise, your node may fail to start.

Ensure your machine meets the recommended specifications outlined below (minimal and recommended):

• CPU: 2 Cores / 8 Cores

Recovering Your Node Key

Starting with Your Node

Getting Involved 🛠

Before getting started, ensure that the Penumbra CLI is installed and up-to-date on machines with the following operating systems:

Getting Started

Before we delve into the specifics, let's first understand what Gibraltar is. Currently, we have the opportunity to test two elements: Milan, an Arbitrum Rollup deployed by Caldera, and Kyoto, an Arbitrum Orbit chain that was co-developed with the AltLayer team.

This guide aims to provide a detailed walkthrough of the following activities:

• Securing test tokens using a faucet

• Bridging from Sepolia to Milan-devnet

• Bridging from Sepolia to Kyoto

• Deploying tokens on both networks

• Minting and burning tokens

• Deploying NFTs

Installing the Wallet Extension

To interact with Milan and Kyoto, you should have installed the EVM-wallet. We will be using the MetaMask wallet during this guide, which you can download by following this link.

If your wallet is already installed, proceed to the next steps.

Adding a Test Network

To begin utilizing the Espresso Gibraltar Testnet, it is crucial to prepare your environment correctly. The first step involves setting up your wallet to display test networks. You can do this by selecting Ethereum Mainnet in your wallet interface. A popup window will appear, where you need to switch on the Show test networks option.

Adding a Network

There are two options to add the Milan Devnet. The simplest one is by visiting this link and clicking on Add Chain to Metamask.

If you encounter any issues with the website using the first method, a second option is to manually add the network.

In MetaMask, select Ethereum Mainnet, then click Add network in the popup window. As the Milan Devnet is not pre-included in the wallet, it needs to be added manually. You can do this by selecting Add a network manually and entering the following information:

• Network name - Gibraltar Milan

• New RPC URL - https://milan-devnet.rpc.caldera.xyz/http

• Chain ID - 83782

• Currency symbol - ETH

Faucet

Before interacting with the network, you should acquire a few test tokens to pay transaction fees. You can obtain these test tokens using the following Sepolia faucets:

Bridging Tokens

Connect your wallet to the Bridge, input the amount you wish to bridge, and click the Deposit button.

Token Deployment

We'll be utilizing the Thirdweb platform for this step. Renowned for its user-friendly features, Thirdweb offers an array of tools tailored to the needs of creators, artists, and entrepreneurs. It simplifies the process of constructing, launching, and managing a Web3 project, allowing users to integrate features such as NFTs, marketplaces, and social tokens without any coding requirement.

To start, navigate to this link, and connect your wallet. You'll be asked to sign a transaction and provide an email address where a code will be sent. Once you receive the code, enter it into the designated field and click on Deploy now to proceed.

Upon opening the window, you have the ability to upload an image, name, symbol, and description based on your preferences. For the Trusted Forwarders, just click on the Get default button.

Next, you would need to select the Select Network option and proceed to choose Add Custom Network. This will prompt you to key in the following data:

• Network name - Milan

• Chain ID - 83782

• Currency Symbol - ETH

• Network type - testnet

• RPC URL - https://milan-devnet.rpc.caldera.xyz/http

Please note: The Network ID will be retrieved automatically.

Click the Deploy Now button, then sign the transaction in your wallet. Once the token is successfully deployed, select Mint from the Token Tab to mint your tokens.

Choose the quantity of tokens you wish to mint. Then, click the Mint Tokens button and sign the transaction in your wallet.

Token Burning

In order to reduce the quantity of tokens we've minted, simply click on the Burn button. You'll then be able to specify the volume of tokens you'd like to eliminate.

Keep in mind not to burn all your tokens. Once you've determined the amount to burn, click on Burn Tokens, and approve the transaction in your wallet.

Token Transfers

To transfer tokens, simply click on the Transfer option. A popup window will appear, where you can input the wallet address or ENS domain that you wish to send tokens to.

After deciding on the quantity of tokens to be transferred, you'll need to authenticate the transaction in your wallet.

NFT Deployment

To create your NFT, navigate to this page and select the Deploy Now option. Following this, you'll need to authenticate the transactions in your wallet. Once the NFT has been successfully deployed, proceed to the NFTs tab and choose to create it.

Opt for Single Upload. On the subsequent page, you can input the preferred Name and Media for your NFT, and add a Description. Properties can be left blank for now.

Click on the Lazy Mint NFT button, then authenticate the transactions in your wallet.

As the final step, head back to Overview and select the Claim Conditions Tab. Click on Add Phase and choose Public. You can adjust the parameters based on your preferences, but leaving them at their default settings won't make a significant difference.

After saving the phases by clicking Save Phases and signing the transaction in your wallet, navigate to the Overview section located at the top left corner of the page. Scroll down to find the NFT Details section and select View All. You can then claim your NFT by clicking on Claim.

A popup window will appear, allowing you to specify the number of NFTs you wish to claim. If you're unsure, you can leave it at the default settings.

Once you click Claim NFT, you'll be prompted to sign the transaction in your wallet.

We've successfully interacted with the Gibraltar Milan Devnet. Now, let's proceed and explore the Kyoto Testnet:

To deploy on the Kyoto network, start by returning to the Thirdweb homepage. Click on the Deploy Now button and select Kyoto. Next, choose the Add Custom Network option. You are required to input the following data:

• Network type - testnet

• RPC URL - https://kyoto-rpc.altlayer.io/

Fuel Wallet

To initiate your interaction with the Fuel Network's Beta-5, you are required to download and install the Fuel Wallet. This is the official native wallet of the Fuel Network. However, there's also the Fuelet Wallet as a viable alternative. This third-party wallet is known for its impressive UX.

While this guide primarily demonstrates the setup process using the Fuel Wallet, we highly encourage you to experiment with both the Fuel Wallet and the Fuelet Wallet to find the one that best suits your needs.

In this tutorial, we'll be using the Chrome browser. If you're a Chrome user as well, you can directly access the Fuel Wallet extension via this link. If you're using a different browser, start by visiting: https://wallet.fuel.network/.

Please remember: If your goal is to interact with dApps and you're not engaged in any development activities, it's advisable to install only the Fuel Wallet, not the Fuel Development Wallet.

Setting Up the Wallet

After successfully downloading your wallet extension, you will be redirected to a new page. If you are new to the ecosystem, select Create New Wallet. If you are updating your existing wallet, choose Import Seed Phrase to restore your current wallet.

Preserve a Seed Phrase

Once you've accepted the terms of use agreement, you'll move on to Step 2 where the wallet displays your seed phrase. This step is crucial, so ensure you've recorded your seed phrase in a secure and safe location.

Remember: it's important to keep your seed phrase safe and not share it with anyone else.

Next, you'll confirm your seed phrase in Step 3 and create a password to unlock your Fuel Wallet in Step 4.

You're finished!

Once you've completed all four steps, you'll receive a confirmation message indicating that your first Fuel Wallet on the Fuel Network has been successfully created.

Fuel Faucet

To engage with Beta-5's dApps, you'll need to add some test tokens to your wallet. Start by copying your wallet address from the extension and visit the Faucet website. Upon submission of your wallet and successful completion of a captcha, you'll receive Testnet ETH.

Please note that there's a daily limit on the available test tokens per user, so plan your testnet interactions accordingly.

Please be aware that the test tokens hold no actual monetary value and are solely created for the purpose of providing a testnet experience. If you encounter any problems, we encourage you to report them on the Fuel Discord.

Fuel Native Bridge

Fuel's Native Bridge is fully operational, enabling a smooth transition between Ethereum's Sepolia Network and the Beta-5 testnet. It streamlines the transfer of assets between Layer 1 and Layer 2, utilizing a message portal to handle token standards such as ERC-20 and ERC-721. On Layer 2, dedicated contracts are in place for token processing and minting, which significantly boosts the Fuel network's efficiency.

For easy navigation, all tools such as the Fuel Explorer, Fuel Bridge, and Fuel Ecosystem Portal are readily accessible via app.fuel.network.

Deposit

In order to make a deposit to the Fuel network, it's necessary to obtain some test ETH on the Sepolia testnet. For this purpose, external faucets, such as Alchemy’s Sepolia Faucet or the Sepolia PoW Faucet, can be used to acquire tokens. Be aware that bridging your test ETH to Fuel’s Beta-5 might take several minutes.

Withdraw

To withdraw test ETH from the Beta-5 network, switch to Withdraw from Fuel, enter the amount you wish to withdraw, and sign the transaction. Please note that the transaction could take longer than usual, potentially several hours, for your test ETH to be accessible on the Sepolia testnet.

To explore your transaction history or observe the status of your bridging process, switch to the History section for a detailed view.
