With Shift + / you can now instantly pull up the command line from anywhere in the product and search for any SOL token by name or contract address. Within the search results we show details like market cap, 24H volume, and a security score to help you find the correct token.

Navigate between different tokens with the arrow keys or use vim keybindings like a real professional trader would, move down using Shift + J and up using Shift + K . Once you’ve found your token, hitting enter will take you directly to the token page, where you can view the chart and token details, track your positions, and swap.

To understand where things are heading, it helps to look at how trading tools have evolved throughout history. Each generation of finance has solved the problems of friction and speed in a new way.

As we build Doormat, we're borrowing the most effective elements of traditional finance and leaving behind what doesn’t work for crypto. During the 90s, the Bloomberg Terminal turned institutional traders into the degens of their era. We need to talk about the history of trading terminals and why crypto is ready for one of these tools.

The History of Trading Terminals

The first known trading terminal dates back to the late 19th century with the invention of the stock ticker, and since then, trading terminals have come a long way.

Telephones and Ticker Tape (1867 - 1960s)

Before every trading floor was filled with a sea of screens, there was the ticker tape. Stock prices were printed on thin strips of paper that rolled out of machines in brokerage offices. Traders watched numbers emerge, waiting for the next update. Then, to place a trade, you picked up the phone and called your broker. Market access was limited, execution was slow, and information lagged by minutes or hours. The primary bottleneck was data speed and whoever could see prices first had a significant edge.

Screen-Based Trading (1970s - 1990s)

In 1971, NASDAQ launched as the first fully electronic stock exchange. Traders finally saw real-time price quotes as their paper feeds were replaced by digital feeds. Early systems like NASDAQ’s feeds and Reuters terminals provided information but still required a phone call to execute trades. That changed in 1982 when Bloomberg combined data, trade execution, and communication via chat in a single terminal.

For the first time, traders could analyze markets, talk with peers, and execute trades without switching between tools. Bloomberg didn’t just create better software, it locked in network effects. By the 1990s, traders didn’t just use their Bloomberg Terminal as a tool, they couldn’t work effectively without it.

Retail Participation and Internet Trading (2000s - 2010s)

The internet opened the gates to a new type of trader. Online brokers like E*TRADE gave retail traders access to markets that were once reserved for institutional trading only. By the early 2000s, retail trading volume had surged more than 50 percent.

Mobile apps quickly followed with Robinhood offering a “zero-fee” social and gamified trading experience. Retail participation peaked during the 2021 GameStop frenzy when speculation, internet coordination, and memes collided in a way the markets hadn’t seen before. High-frequency trading grew alongside it, accounting for over half of U.S. equity volume by 2010. Access was no longer scarce, so speed became the biggest differentiator once again.

Crypto Trading Terminals (2010s–Today)

Decentralized exchanges, perpetuals, and memecoins have introduced new primitives, but execution remains scattered and slow. DeFi regularly surpasses $100 billion in monthly volume, but still trails behind centralized exchanges like Binance, which handles over $50 billion in daily spot trades. Uniswap has processed more than $1.5 trillion in total trading volume, yet traders still juggle multiple apps, chains, and wallets to stay competitive.

Crypto has repeated nearly every past market pattern, from price discovery to speculation and social coordination, without managing to build an interface that unifies the trading experience.

The Future of Trading Terminals

Crypto trading today resembles the early stock markets in their most chaotic phase: liquidity spread across chains, manual execution flows, and traders switching between dashboards and bots to keep up.

As Edward Chancellor’s Devil Take the Hindmost: A History of Financial Speculation chronicles, speculative manias have always funded the infrastructure that lasts. The current boom is no different. The capital and energy moving through crypto right now are pushing its tools to mature and transform emergent technology to reliable financial tooling. Infrastructure providers like Privy, Uniswap, and Bridge are simplifying execution, integrating data, and closing the gaps between retail and institutional trading experiences. Spot and perpetual volumes hit record highs in 2024 across both DEXs and CEXs (roughly $17 trillion in CEX spot volume per CoinGecko data), and consumer apps such as Telegram-based BONKbot show how ease of use drives mass participation.

The next generation of trading terminals will automate complexity and surface real-time data within the same UI. DeFi must become as user-friendly as it is open to be ready for mass adoption.

Telegram bots have solved for speed and community but introduced serious custody risk. Retail apps like Robinhood remain well-positioned to own major retail audiences but abstract much of what makes crypto unique. 

At Doormat, we’re taking a different approach. Our custom MPC key-management infrastructure lets us build features like Keychains, which let traders create and use up to a hundred keys in one account, and round-trip protection, automating orders that secure profits once targets are met. Because Doormat supports both Solana and EVM, users can see their total balances and positions across chains in one interface, even if their liquidity is distributed. Each of these offers traders the ability to compete against more advanced trading strategies and take full advantage of the novel primitives decentralized finance has to offer.

MPC stands for ‘multi party compute’. Here at doormat we only use one facet of MPC — ‘threshold signature signing’ and ‘distributed key generation’.

To explain threshold signature signing, it makes sense to start with Shamir secret sharing, which is the core of most cold storage systems. Shamir lets you split a secret into n shards, of which any t of them can be used to recreate the secret (t,n). Behind the scenes whats happening is n points are given on a line, in which t are needed to determine the y intercept (the secret). To sign, one must bring the shards in one location, recreate the key, and then sign.

Threshold signature signing takes this process a step further. Rather than combine the keys, we can run a distributed protocol between the shard holders that generates a signature without ever recreating the key. Distributed key generation lets us create shards without ever having a key to split up in the first place!

We didn’t want Doormat to be tied to the technology available on any one particular chain. Thus, it made sense to build a wallet management system based off cryptography rather than onchain primitives. Additionally, MPC based wallets present the user with an EOA which they are familiar with. Future account abstraction based benefits should be able to easily be built on top of doormat wallets.

Your relationship with your wallet is that whoever built it are in charge of your funds. It is the core technology that shouldn’t be outsourced. Using an externally-produced key management system means users are at the mercy of a third party they did not knowingly sign up to trust, and as a product you become reliant on a vendor. In order to build the most interesting and novel features, we have always wanted to offer users the ability to manage unlimited keys. Most key management services charge per key, which would explode our costs. Ultimately, running our own system made sense.

To use Doormat, users choose a google account to login with and a backup password. No seed phrase necessary! We use a (2,2) MPC based key management system. This means that each key is split up into two shards (generated independently via a process called distributed key generation), of which two are needed to communicate in order to sign transactions. We do this so that Doormat itself never has access to the users key, while keeping the experience simple for the user.

The server shard (also known as the bob shard) is stored by Doormat. We will let users participate in signing with it if they are logged in via oath (right now we just support google login). The client shard (also known as the alice shard) is stored locally by the client on device.

However we back this up in a few ways:

• Each user has a private key generated on sign up that is then encrypted by an AES encryption key generated from the user’s password. This key is used to encrypt each alice shard which is stored on Doormat’s side. When a user logs in on a new device, they are prompted for their password. This then is used to decrypt the user’s private key and locally decrypt all their alice shards, giving them access to their keys.

• The users devices have their own key pair. The server keeps track of all the device public keys that have been registered and distributes this list to clients. When a user creates a key on a device, we encrypt the alice shard with elliptic curve diffie hellman to all the devices. This way they can login and have access to the key without having to re-enter their password each time

Doormat is designed to work on any chain our users want to use - we can slot in different MPC algorithms and manage different types of keys / shard pairs as we need.

The first version of Doormat just supported secp256 keys via dkls18 from kryptology a library open sourced and produced by Coinbase. We actually extended this lib to provide extra functionality (key import and export). However, kryptology is long deprecated, so while we still support it, we have moved away from this implementation for all Doormat user keys.

We have since added support for secp256 dkls19 keys and ed25519 FROST keys via Sodot. Sodot provides closed source MPC algorithm implementations. All current keys for Doormat users are managed with the sodot MPC libs. Sodot libraries are super powerful and provide a host of very useful functionality we did not have prior.

Doormat itself is split into two major parts. The wallet / web interface / terminal / frontend etc are all built in next js and typescript. However the key management system is all quarantined and written in golang (client code runs in wasm).

We split it up like this to ensure the core key management code is simple and not intermixed with rapidly changing frontend / product code. Also on a subjective note — we prefer to work with cryptographic primitives in golang vs javascript.

We work with Highland Security to check our security as we build — they embed a security lead within our team who acts as a part time CSO, reviewing the design of new features and our overall architecture. As the platform becomes more stable and core features are more consistent, we will begin to conduct a formal audit.

Doormat is an evergreen key management system designed to let our users interact do what they want onchain without feeling like a regular wallet.

All teams started with $1000 in a fresh doormat account and had 3 hours to turn it into as much money as possible. There were a few rules like….but other than that it was choose your own adventure and try not to waste any time. The result was chaos at a scale our office had never seen before. There was shit talking, definitely some bullying, and certainly some copy trading.

Not one team consistently made trades that had them taking a profit, so it became a competition of who could lose the least amount of money.

As was foretold by our commentator / crypto livestream expert Grace (founder, unlonely), rohan and linda from Team Slop made a huge comeback and beat Team Shark by a narrow ______. Everyone got to keep their winnings* and the winning team got a $333 bonus (because $3k, 3 hours, 3 teams…idk we just like the number 3).

Create 1 keychain with up to 100 keys

Keychains are a new primitive inside Doormat that lets you generate and manage many wallets at once. You can create Keychains for Solana or EVM and choose how many addresses you want (from 2 to 100). Each address inside your Keychain can take actions independently, like buy, sell or swap, or move together in sync.

Save time with actions

Each Keychain supports four primary actions:

Fund: Your keychain can receive assets from any Doormat key and distribute them across every address on your Keychain with a single click.

Drain: Instantly collapse all balances back to one key when you’re finished with a Keychain.

Echo Transact: Execute the same transaction across every address simultaneously. When you connect to a dApp, Doormat can multiply signature requests across your entire Keychain. (Currently available on EVM only)

Swap: Swap tokens across every address at once using Doormat’s built-in swapper. (Currently available on Solana only)

Technical architecture

Each Keychain is backed by a single (2,2) MPC shard pair, one shard held by the user and one by Doormat. Instead of creating new shard pairs for every wallet, Doormat derives multiple addresses from this root using non-hardened BIP-32 paths. Each derived address stays isolated in use but inherits the same security guarantees as the root.

This structure lets one secure key generate up to 100 addresses with almost no performance overhead. Users can fund, drain, or sign across all addresses instantly, without weakening MPC protections or creating new key material.

Why it matters

Keychains make it easy to run high-volume, multi-address transactions safely. Our beta testers find them most helpful for points farming, bootstrapping token communities, and unlocking NFT mint limits. It’s a simple feature that unlocks advanced coordination onchain from directly inside Doormat.

Keychains are available today on both Solana and EVM. We’re excited for you to experiment, explore, and push what’s possible on Doormat.

The initial doormat UI featured a friendly card-based design, intended to make complex actions extraordinarily simple. After getting feedback from our first cohort of alpha testers we realized that the design would struggle to scale with the product. Additionally it felt detached from the visual styles of the brand itself — we were trying to serve degens with a UI that felt a bit too trad. So we let Katy loose in figma and from that came the cyberpunk bloomberg terminal concept.

Beyond the UI and visual styles, we also wanted to become a daily destination for folks who are “in the trenches” as Trevor would say. So we mapped out some user journeys and realized we could morph into a portfolio management tool using our existing tech and continue to launch cool features like keychains.

while you were away, the world of wallets has shifted. hopefully you didn’t forget the seed phrase to that one wallet holding your XRP bags!

we’ve seen phantom pass whatsapp in the app store rankings, embedded wallet services fight over every consumer crypto project, and many, many wallet projects start to die off. last cycle, wallets like metamask and rainbow were the gateway to owning crypto. our confused friends would encounter the first of many hurdles to onboarding as random tutorials explained how to install a metamask browser extension and warned you to NEVER share your seed phrase with anyone, not even your mom.

now every user on every app has a unique wallet address for every account. you can download phantom on your phone, onramp with moonpay, and be in the trenches top blasting $MOODENG in 15 mins or less. but wallets must be built for more than just onboarding the next million people. the more we’ve used crypto the more we wonder why wallets are so limited.

should wallets be attached to every single user account or should we just have one that connects to everything? should they reward users with perks and points like an amex or show you what your friends are doing onchain so you can copy trade? how can we keep track of all our memecoins across every chain? maybe some sort of spreadsheet? how many wallets does one need actually need and of which type? the crypto market map by electric capital shows 80 wallet projects across 5 subcategories.

the place you keep your coins has the potential to be much more personal and powerful than any single project’s thesis. we believe your wallet should help you become the most powerful version of yourself with every onchain move you make and every new feature we ship. if crypto has turned into a massive pvp game, then we’re working on the terminal that will help you get good.
