Goal

The main goal of this post is to list some of the -404 based projects that exist and provide some basic info and resources on what -404 projects are.

Dual Nature Token Pairs are projects typically ending in -404. They use an experimental token standard that combines ERC-20 (fungible tokens) and ERC-721 (non-fungible tokens), allowing tokens under this standard to be both fungible and non-fungible at the same time. This works by bonding an ERC-721 token to an ERC-20 token, where an ERC-20 token only represents an NFT when it is a whole token. Once it is broken down into fractions for trading as an ERC-20 token, the NFT is burnt. When two complementary fractions (e.g. 0.4 and 0.6) are combined to form a full token, a new NFT is minted. Typically, there are a set number of NFTs with associated metadata, and the NFTs that are burned and minted from the above actions are cycled in and out of this pool. So in effect, you are not minting a "new" NFT, you are drawing an existing one from a pool.

To date there have been a variety of unofficial standards developed, however there is an official ERC submission, aimed to standardize this pairing, which states the following:

"A fungible ERC-20 token contract and non-fungible ERC-721 token contract can be interlinked, allowing actions performed on one contract to be reflected on the other. This proposal defines how the relationship between the two token contracts can be queried. It also enables accounts to configure if ERC-721 mints and transfers are skipped during ERC-20 to ERC-721 synchronization."

Once out past the ruble, beyond sight of the Tower of Agreement, the mummified sleeper signaled an abrupt halt. Quov steadied the boat and nudged Jatos, the diver, from his deep slumber. Slipping his goggles over his bleached eyes, Jatos dove over the side of the boat without a second glance.

Down and Down he swam, augmented lungs having no problems with the pressure and time. The water warmed. When he reached the hydrothermal vents he paused and looked around. One of the few, if not only, ecosystem to escape the carnage of humans brief history here on Earth. The Vents were swarming with life.

Jatos began harvesting the abundant Scaley Foot Snails as he cruised the vents. The snails not only provided food for much of the slums, being a key ingredient in their famous Molé Bouillabaisse, but the metals concentrated in the shell was used as an alloy in the sleepers mystical artifacts.

First bag full, he gave a triple tug on the attached line and watched it briefly as it ascended to the surface. 6 more bags to go. Just another day on the water, doing what he needed to do for his community. Working for his bags.

It was almost enjoyable if he could keep ignoring the dangers that lurked in the depths with him. Just 6 more bags until he could return to the only true peace he knew: Sleep.
