Summary

Yes, it’s had its moment. And yes, it’s super cheesy. But, in a fragrance world dominated by super sweet gourmands and over priced elixirs, going back to Paco Rabanne 1 Million today feels somewhat refreshing.

The once go-to king of the mens fragrance world has taken a step back in recent years, as newer products have wrestled away its spotlight.

Much like Dior Sauvage, there was a time in its heyday where I would have done anything not to smell 1 million everywhere I went.

But now, after some time has passed and the dust has settled, maybe there’s still life in the Love it or hate it gold bar in 2026

Top Notes & First impressions

The synthetic citrus smell from orange and grapefruit top notes compete for attention in the opening, and give a hint of initial fruitiness.

But they’re fighting an uphill battle against the cinnamon and spicy notes lurking in the background.

The opening is loud and playful. And while it has a reputation for being a “youthful” scent, if you watch your sprays, then older guys could easily rock 1 million.

Mid Notes & Fragrance Development

As the initial citrus settles, the cinnamon and spicy notes take the reigns and become the star of the show.

Rose does offer a subtle compliment to the spices giving the mid a slightly softer feel to balance the fragrance out.

But like the opening citrus, it too faces a tough battle to stay noticed against the dominant mid notes.

Base Notes & Dry-Down

While 1 million is an attention grabbing scent, the in your face nature calms down and is replaced by a more intoxicating scent trail.

The base is built on the amber and leather notes, and the fragrance settles in to the warm spicy scent its so famous for.

Performance & Longevity

My bottle is an older batch, but performance and longevity here are good On my skin, 2 – 3 sprays of 1 million goes for an easy 7+ hours.

On clothing, realistically, you’ll need to wash things to remove the smell.

Go too heavy with Paco Rabanne 1 Million and you will be the annoying fragrance guy that chokes out the room. (Dont be that guy)

Fragrance Style

Sweet. Warm. Spicy. Strong. Loud. Known as a clubbing scent. Leans youthful. But dont let that put you off if your an older guy. Like I said earlier, adjust yous sprays accordingly and you'll be fine. Remember, less is more.

When to Wear

Best for: Autumn evenings
Avoid for: heat, daytime professional environments
Season: autumn and winter
Dress/vibe: Going out, clubbing, loud social gatherings

Presentation

The thing is a frigging gold bar. It’s one of the most famous (and arguably gaudiest) designs in history.

But honestly? It fits.

If you’re going to wear a scent this loud, you might as well spray it out of a gold brick.

Price

At the time of writing in the UK, a 50ml bottle costs around the £50 - £60 mark. A 100ml bottle is going to cost you around £70-£80. Not dirt cheap like some clone houses, but not ludicrous like some elixirs. 1 Million fits in that mid tier range close to some of its long standing rivals, Versace Eros and Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male.

Competitors

This fragrance is unique. Nothing else smells like 1 million. (Outside of fragrance dupes of course)

That being said, the scent profile is sweet, warm, and spicy. Which are a dime a dozen right now.

So if you want that scent profile but done in a different way, 1 Million really stands out.

Final thoughts

Love it or hate it, 1 Million is a fragrance great that could still justify a place in your rotation.

Its not an everyday or signature scent by any means.

Use it in certain situations when the time calls. But when the time is right and you treat yourself to some throwback nostalgia, you may find yourself enjoying 1 Million more than you might realise.

It’s the fragrance equivalent of a classic club anthem. Everyone says they’re tired of it until it comes on, and suddenly everyone knows all of the words

Disclaimer

This review reflects my personal experience with a bottle I purchased myself. I have no affiliation with the brand or any third parties, and I receive no compensation or incentives for reviews. Fragrance is subjective, and what I describe here is based on my own testing, skin chemistry, and preferences.

A comforting vanilla-praline scent with confidence and staying power. Liquid Brun invites comparison to Altair, but is it the smarter choice?

Liquid Brun by Fragrance World Review

A cosy gourmand fragrancebuilt on vanilla and praline with soft supporting spices. It doesn’t shift much, but neither does its obvious competitor. Longevity and projection are excellent, making it a winter evening choice for nights out. Nearly identical to Parfums de Marly Altair, but lasts longer on my skin, and makes a stronger case for value.

Opening Impression

The first spray comes through cosy and sweet, with spice notes peeking over the top. Cinnamon and cardamom are there, but they sit quietly in the background, adding some depth rather than demanding attention. A subtle hint of orange blossom and bergamot form the top notes, but dont be mistaken. This is by far a sweet and slightly spicy fragrance.

Top Notes

Vanilla comes through early. The spices keep things from becoming syrupy, but the overall direction is cosy and gourmand from the get go. It’s easy to wear, and doesn't try to be anything more than the fragrance its going after.

Middle Notes

As the scent settles the only change, and its a subtle one, is praline takes on more prominence. Vanilla stills stays steady throughout. There’s no dramatic arc or mystery going on here. Liquid Brun stays true to the simple, warm, dessert-like personality it shows in the beginning.

Base Notes & Dry-Down

The dry-down sticks to vanilla and praline. Some popular fragrance sites call Liquid Brun woody, but I dont pick that up. It is smooth and sweet, and stays that way in its entirety. If you enjoyed the opening, you’ll enjoy the finish.

Fragrance Design

Liquid Brun isn’t trying to be complex. It’s a straight line from start to finish. Sweet, slightly spicy, and one dimensional all the way.

Evolution: Minimal

Season: Autumn/Winter

Time of day: Leans night time, but can absolutely be worn during the day

Longevity: Great of my skin

Performance & Longevity

This fragrance works hard.
On my skin, Liquid Brun easily reaches the 10+ hour mark. After a few hours, it settles into a skin scent, like most fragrances do, but it’s still easy to detect with a simple wrist test. Projection is equally impressive, leaving a scent trail that people notice.

It’s a fragrances that hangs in there and sticks with you.

Identity & Character

This is a gourmand through and through. Warm, sweet, and cosy. On the masculinity spectrum, it leans masculine but could also wear comfortably as unisex.

Scenario Fit

Best for: Winter evenings, relaxed gatherings, social settings, intimate moments
Avoid: Heat, daytime professional environments
Dress/vibe: relaxed sophistication; confidence without trying too hard

Composition

The blending is smooth from top to base. Nothing feels forced or chemical. It doesn’t aim for complexity, it aims for consistency, and that’s exactly what it delivers.

Value

Very strong price-to-performance ratio.
Longevity and projection exceed expectations in this price bracket. Versatility isn’t its goal, seasonal use is. But within its lane, it excels. Mass appealing and easy to enjoy without much thought or effort.

Similar Fragrances

Closest match: Parfums de Marly Altair.
The scent profile is nearly identical. Liquid Brun actually performs better on my skin for a fraction of the price. After purchasing Liquid Brun I went back and tested the PDM, and I was blown away by how close they are.

Recommendation

Wear this if you enjoy a sweet, cosy gourmand that doesn't change much, but always smells good.
Skip it if you prefer fresh, citrus, or woody scents.

Final Verdict

Liquid Brun brings comfort, warmth, and impressive staying power to the table, at a price that makes the comparison to Altair difficult to justify. It’s simple, long lasting, and enjoyable from start to finish.

This review reflects my personal experience with a bottle I purchased myself. Fragrance is subjective, and what I describe here is based on my own testing, skin chemistry, and preferences.
