In the distant future, fragments of human civilization have constructed the Sonic City on the Echoverse Planet.
The Echoverse is a philosophical experiment: When human collaboration is coded into a digital network, how do our identities and values collapse?
The city is built on sonic consensus. Individuals must sacrifice their body's "Hollow" to endure fatal resonance and become a "Live Node," gaining network access.
Protagonist Reno is a "Hollow Explorer". He arrives at this city and must retrieve his shattered memories, confronting the truth of his collapsing identity.
In this echo of the stars, Order and Freedom are a pair of mutually exclusive illusions.

Shattered Echoes and Digital Fashion

The air on Sonora's streets felt sucked dry, leaving behind a disgusting, unsettling dead silence.

Reno’s NexTex isolation lining? The faint goddamn hum was a joke. High-intensity sound waves slammed in like fists. His gastrectomy cavity, that hollow drum, immediately went into spasms, stinging him cold with sweat. Every network surge felt like a goddamn ice pick twisting in his gut. Screw this, this whole bullshit existence was a bloody transaction, and his body was the city's live alarm clock of pain.

“Reno, you look like a black hole swallowed your voiceprint contract,” Chrono tried some humor, but it just came out bitchy.

“Chrono, shut up. My ‘live node’ isn't analyzing—it’s fucking screaming.” Reno kept his voice low, fingers digging into his chest. “Look around. It’s all a fucking illusion. The road, the sculptures, everything's a collapsing digital echo.”

They were in a square where the massive soundprint sculptures, once the city's pride, were now cracked, ugly as broken faces. Alpha’s voice cut through his helmet, that cold, emotionless tone making him want to puke:

[Alpha]: “City energy drainage exceeds the critical point. Loss is external. Malicious. Complex temporal coding detected.”

Just then, Aria Vaughn arrived. Her emergence was fundamentally unnatural. She looked like she was cut out of the fractured light, every step efficient enough to grate on your nerves. Her flagship NexTex gear was blinding, the data patterns rippling across her suit like cold, high-speed electricity.

Aria stopped dead in front of him. Her gaze wasn't scanning a person; it was analyzing a financial liability.

“Reno, human explorer. Your physiological state and your cheap-ass gear tell me one thing: you’re not here to be a good guy. You’re here to cash in.”

2. Hertz's Legacy and the Flow of Blood

Who the hell didn't know that in this decentralized world, free help was pure poison?

“Aria Vaughn, NexTex big shot,” Reno shot back. “My stomach’s gone, but my bullshit detector still works. Don’t play coy. You don’t want to save the city; you want to mainline the city’s lifeblood—this clotted mess—into your goddamn tech system.”

“Sharp.” Aria barely cracked a smile, projecting a hologram from her fingers. “The city runs on Echo Coin—Hertz’s lifeblood, mined from resonant soundwaves. But the old rules are slow as shit. Cypher's code is a vascular clot.”

“So you’re offering the cure?” Reno asked.

“I’m offering the evolution.” Aria’s eyes gleamed with pure, ruthless efficiency. “My tech injects stable, efficient soundwaves. Faster ‘blood transfusions,’ network repair. But I need you.”

The hologram vanished. Alpha's pure blue projection went over Reno like a surgical scan.

[Alpha]: “Analysis complete. Subject contains high-intensity encrypted memory traces. Encoded as digital imprints in your bioacoustic signature. Hypothesis: Subject's past identity relates to the core secrets of the Hertz Protocol. You are not a nomad; you are your own, most ancient, fucking digital archaeological site.”

“Your past is the key to stopping Cypher.” Aria’s tone was as flat as the weather. “Your hollow body is the perfect live resonance vessel. Every memory unlocked gives you a sonic talisman against Cypher.”

Reno’s gut hit him with a violent spasm—not just pain, but a savage, primal call from the deep network. He held Aria’s calculating gaze.

“So I’m a… digital key to a shitty old safe?” Reno laughed, the sound dry as dirt. “My body is the cost, my memories the chips. I’m a walking ATM.”

“It is the future,” Aria corrected, her gaze a razor-edge. “Your existence proves technology transforms human imperfection into digital advantage. Work with me, Reno. I’ll dig up your identity; you help me forge the city’s future.”

Reno took a deep, rattling breath. The echo in his void finally came back, clear and gut-wrenching:

“Deal. But get this straight, Aria. What I excavate is my goddamn humanity and my memories—not your fucking Echo Coins.”

(End of Chapter Two)
