Mumbai, a major global city with a deep technology base, offers strong accessibility for attendees across India and Asia. Hosting Devcon 8 here strengthens the existing momentum and lowers the barrier for new builders to connect with contributors from around the world.

Devcon 8 will be hosted November 3-6, 2026, just a few days before Diwali on November 8th, the Hindu festival of lights. Come for Devcon and stay to experience this important cultural and religious celebration.

What is Devcon?

Devcon is the bi-annual gathering for the global Ethereum community, organized by the Ethereum Foundation, to build and use decentralized systems.

It is:

• an intensive introduction for new Ethereum explorers

• a global reunion for long-time contributors

• a place where developers, researchers, community organizers, students, and creators come together

• a conference for builders of all kinds

Devcon has always had a strong technical core (it’s the DEVeloper CONference after all) and that remains true. But Ethereum’s applications extend far beyond protocol engineering into the digital economy, research, art, community work, governance, public goods, and more.

Devcon is not only for developers. It’s for engineers, designers, researchers, infrastructure operators, educators, community organizers, social economists, artists, and anyone building systems that improve the world using Ethereum.

We rotate Devcon across regions because Ethereum can have real, immediate impact in different parts of the world.

A World’s Fair for Ethereum with La Rural as the Schellingpoint

For the first time, Devconnect introduced a World’s Fair-style experience, anchored entirely within La Rural, one of Buenos Aires’ most iconic venues, where everything was brought together into a single, immersive environment.

Inside La Rural, attendees could explore:

• 8 themed districts: DeFi, Privacy, L2s, Decentralized Social, Hardware & Wallets, AI, Gaming, and Art

• 80+ exhibiting teams showing real, working Ethereum applications

• 15 Community Hubs organized by ecosystem groups

• 40 events run by independent teams

• Discussion corners, coworking zones, and bookable meeting rooms

• Onboarding stations for newcomers

• Food trucks accepting crypto payments

• Live music, a cinema, and a soccer pitch with tournaments

It turned Ethereum into something you could walk through. People tested applications, played onchain games, tried new wallets, paid with crypto for food and drinks, explored AI workflows, and met the teams building on Ethereum today.

The Devconnect App: the guide to the World’s Fair

The entire experience was supported by the Devconnect App, which helped attendees navigate the massive venue, view programming, build personal schedules, pay with crypto via the integrated wallet or add their own, complete quests, discover new applications, and collect POAPs on the way. Local energy and impact

Many visitors fell in love with Buenos Aires, with the spring vibe and lively streets, the mate culture, asados and steak, ice cream, the football energy, street art, and the surrounding nature. Some even stayed well beyond Devconnect.

Buenos Aires was the perfect location for the first Ethereum World’s Fair, with Argentina being one of the most active crypto markets in the world, with about 20% owning crypto, using it for savings, hedging against inflation, access to lending, and stability. Across the city, many vendors accept crypto for payments, and this familiarity made Devconnect feel at the right place at the right time. Devconnect itself was also shaped by the contributions of the local and regional Ethereum communities:

ETHCon Buenos Aires

ETHCon was one of the major Devconnect events and was organized by the local communities SEED Latam, Crecimiento, Ethereum Argentina, ETH Kipu, Mujeres en Cripto, and multiple regional partners.

Beginning in April 2025, we supported local initiatives through Destino Devconnect, a grants round designed to accelerate regional adoption ahead of Devconnect.

Devconnect included one of the largest student and academic components in EF event history.

The eight districts of the Ethereum World’s Fair

Just as Nikola Tesla's electricity system lit up Chicago’s World’s Fair in 1893, when most people still used candles, we’ll showcase what Ethereum can do today to replace old and traditional systems. We’ll dogfood Ethereum on the ground for payments, ticketing, perks, and voting. Additionally, eight districts will highlight Ethereum’s domains. The most relevant teams will be there, demoing their apps and letting you try them hands-on. The districts are:

All the power of the financial system, open to anyone with an internet connection. From stablecoins that maintain their value to innovative approaches in lending, borrowing, and payments. All without the need for banks or middlemen.

Ethereum’s tools for organizing people online. Prediction markets, identity, and decentralized social apps show how communities can coordinate, govern, and make decisions together without central authorities.

Hardware & Wallets

Ethereum in the physical world and wallets that unlock the world of Ethereum. Explore self-custodial wallets and devices that empower users to control their assets. Discover how real-world systems can be community-owned.

Privacy

Not everything should be public. Privacy-preserving tech on Ethereum lets people transact, communicate, and build securely while keeping sensitive information hidden. A civil right for the internet age.

Gaming

Games where players own their assets. Characters, items, and virtual land live as NFTs on Ethereum, so you can trade, sell, or carry them into new worlds. Entertainment meets real digital ownership.

ETHCon – Nov 18

This year, we are aiming for something bigger than just Devconnect: We want to support an effort that the local community has already started — bringing Argentina onchain.

In Buenos Aires and Argentina, we have a city and country that have been leading adopters of Ethereum for many years. Devconnect Argentina is an opportunity for the whole Ethereum ecosystem to support that steady growth and to accelerate it even further, by helping individual citizens, businesses, institutions and governments to adopt and benefit from Ethereum.

Devconnect will be a culmination of this effort, and a global gathering that’s more than a decentralized event week. In addition to focused community-organized events that will take place across the city, the EF events team will create an interactive “Ethereum World’s Fair” — a real showcase of live dapps, as a blueprint for what Ethereum can enable for a city, an economy, and a nation.

Argentina is a place where Ethereum adoption is happening right now. People are using stablecoins and blockchain solutions for daily transactions and savings. Buenos Aires is already experimenting onchain: the city’s government has launched initiatives like a digital identity system with Quark ID, built on Ethereum and zksync, showing its openness to crypto.

The local ecosystem is also strong, with Argentina-founded projects like Balmy, Belo, Bouldertech, Decentraland, DeFiWonderland, ExactlyProtocol, Kleros, LambdaClass, Lemon, MakerDAO(Sky), Mimic, Nomic Foundation, OpenZeppelin, POAP, and Ripio in addition to many more. Plus, it is home to grassroots movements like Ethereum Argentina, Seed Latam, ETH Latam, Ciudad de Crecimiento and others. Argentinians are also part of many other teams across the ecosystem.

The Argentina Ethereum ecosystem has laid strong foundations already, and Devconnect is an opportunity for all of us in the Ethereum ecosystem to build on top of those foundations. Ethereum adoption is happening at scale today in Argentina, and together we can help Buenos Aires become a template for other cities to follow in the future.

Argentina has offered to help us with visa applications, so this Devconnect can be truly accessible.

At the center of Devconnect Argentina will be something that we call the “Ethereum World’s Fair”. Over the last centuries, World’s Fairs around the globe showcased cutting-edge tech and offered a glimpse into the future. The “Ethereum World’s Fair” will be a live showcase of how Ethereum can transform identity, finance, governance, and day-to-day life. Stablecoins, DeFi, onchain identities, public goods funding — all of it will be at the Ethereum Fair for people to try, so you can see for yourself how Ethereum-based tools can power more accessible, transparent, and sovereign alternatives to traditional, centralized models.

At the main venue, you’ll find the Devconnect coworking space, which will be a more holistic experience, including Community Hubs. These interactive spaces are organized by members of the community, and you might know them from Devcon. We will share more about the Devconnect Community Hubs and how to organize one in a few weeks.

Of course, Devconnect Argentina is still Devconnect – that means multiple events organized by different teams across the city of Buenos Aires, each diving deep into specific Ethereum topics.

One of our main goals is to push real usage of Ethereum. We encourage organizers to integrate onchain ticketing, payments, and identity wherever possible. We also continue looking for opportunities to dogfood Ethereum tech to improve the attendee experience at Devconnect.

The Devconnect Team

The Devcon team is as always extremely bullish on Ethereum and we are excitedly waiting for the upcoming Pectra upgrade, estimated for Q1 of 2025. Also: our eyes lit up when we saw the 2025 Ethereum community events list, which is already super packed.

As the Ethereum Foundation events team, one of our guiding principles is to dogfood Ethereum tech where possible and where it makes sense. We even recently asked ourselves how we might make Devcon run completely on Ethereum and Ethereum-adjacent tech. We have a long list of projects we have collaborated with to stand by this principle over past Devcons, which you can find here, and we are always open to new suggestions via our DIP process.

Some upcoming changes in the EF were announced, and we also want to introduce a few new things, one of them being this newsletter. From now on, here’s what you can expect monthly:

1. EF events updates

First and foremost, we’ll continue to share Devcon and Devconnect updates. But we want to go a bit deeper, share what we’re planning and what questions we’re pondering. We’ll ask for your opinions and thoughts, so you can actively help shape the biggest Ethereum events.

2. Ecosystem Ethereum events

Events are a huge part of our ecosystem, and while Devcon is one of the biggest events, there are multiple gatherings hosted by local Ethereum communities. Today, there are already 65 events scheduled for 2025 on this community list. We’ll be highlighting some Ethereum events each month, and gather some unique insights so you can make the best decision about which events to join.

3. Local highlights

In this section, we will highlight projects, teams, dApps, and use cases from the Devconnect 2025 region. We’ll reveal this section after our Devconnect location announcement.

2025: Devconnect

Devconnect 2025 will take place in Q4, and we’ll announce the location soon. Devconnect is about making progress. It should be a catalyst for Ethereum innovation in many different areas and fields. That’s why Devconnect is a decentralized event. Unlike Devcon, which we mostly organize, Devconnect is many separate events organized by expert teams in the community.

Planning Devconnect 

Our team still guides the layout and directions of the Devconnect week and we started the year with a workshop to help us focus on what Devconnect should be about and how we can improve it. Thanks to Deep Work for facilitating the workshop.

ETHiopia, Jan 21-Feb 21, Addis Ababa

The ETHiopia team is incredibly ambitious not only organizing a month-long pop-up for Africa’s Web3 builders and changemakers but also a hackathon and conference, all in one. To make that happen, they collaborated with many communities across the continent. The team is determined to lay the foundation for a strong Ethereum movement in the country, creating opportunities to present Ethereum as the best institutional partner for the Ethiopian government. If you want to support ETHiopia in their mission, join the event or participate in the on-chain lottery.

Agentic Ethereum, Jan 31-Feb 12, online 

This async hackathon by ETHGlobal focuses on developing and building crypto AI agents and is therefore at the forefront of current hot topics in the Ethereum ecosystem. AI agents have the potential to revolutionize how autonomous entities interact with Ethereum. Join the hackathon to leverage AI and be part of the fundamental shift in how digital personas operate online and on-chain, reshaping the dynamics of the crypto space.

Ethereum Zurich, Jan 30-Jan 31, Zurich

It's the third time the team is hosting the event at the University of Zurich. The conference has 3 main tracks: academia and research, community, and industry. It will feature many local Swiss organizations and communities while exploring transformative movements like lunarpunk, privacy, solarpunk, d/acc, and defensive tech. Zuitzerland, the local network state and society sandbox, is also involved with multiple sessions.

ETHDenver, Feb 23-Mar 2

It's the year of the regenerates at ETHDenver, and, as usual, there is Buidlweek before the main event and a mountain retreat right after, making the event a total of 2 weeks long. One thing the organizing team is especially proud of is their decentralized decision-making process for selecting speakers at ETHDenver. It’s a merit-based system where over 30 expert and OG reviewers, along with a team of curators, review applications, provide feedback, and make the final selections.

Modular Carnival, Feb 25-Mar 1

Modular Carnival is a new web3 event in the heart of Brazil. The hackathon features a special track focused on Arbitrum Stylus, inviting developers and creators to experiment with WebAssembly (WASM) in the Arbitrum ecosystem. To keep things exciting, participants can use a custom event app to collect points by completing tasks like watching talks, engaging with booths, or networking, and then exchange them for prizes. To top it all off, the event concludes with a street carnival block party, celebrating Brazilian culture and the energy that makes it so special.
