The first version of Empire Builder gave token creators the infrastructure they needed to actually run a token-centric community post-launch.

V2 took that infrastructure and made it composable, so it lives on the blockchain for other protocols to build on top of.

Now we enter the next phase of the Empire infrastructure: Empire Builder v3. Extending beyond the token itself, v3 turns Empires into a full-stack community architecture layer.

It incorporates industry-leading onchain smart vaults for treasury management, pulls social and reputation data for customizable leaderboards, introduces profile-based “tokenless” Empires, and incorporates native staking and NFT deployment — as well as hypercharging all pre-existing features.

The Infrastructure Layer Gets Bigger

Empire was built on the insight that token communities needed more infrastructure to thrive long-term.

That core is still true, but these communities no longer need to live in a vacuum. They have Farcaster presences, NFT collections, staking participants, social contributors, and ecosystem partners. The Empire infrastructure that serves a token community should be able to serve all of those layers too.

V3 is that expansion. It extends the token-first model, giving creators more tools to reward the full picture of what participation in their Empire looks like.

What's New in v3?

Smarter Treasuries

The biggest onchain tech upgrade in v3 is the move to the industry-leading Splits smart vault contracts for Empire treasuries.

This shift means treasuries are more flexible, fully audited, and now span all assets on both Base and Arbitrum. The treasury becomes a genuine onchain hub for the assets, community incentives, and engagement.

As with v1 and v2 treasury contracts, v3 contracts are owned and managed entirely by the Empire creator and guardians (full custody and control).

Empires Without Tokens

You can now create an Empire directly around your Farcaster profile. No token required. Build around your identity, your audience, and your community, and launch a token later to bring it all together (or not).

v3 also introduces tokenless Empires as custom hubs. Build your empire from a blank slate and customize it to your liking.

The practical unlock here is that creator communities, Farcaster channels, NFT groups, early-stage projects, brands, campaigns, etc, can now run a full Empire stack while figuring out their token strategy on their own timeline.

A builder with 5,000 followers who wants to reward their most engaged community members shouldn't have to launch a token first. V3 removes that requirement.

Empire Native Staking

Staking is now available directly through your Empire.
When to migrate a token, when to stay put, and how to execute it without burning what you've built

When a token launches successfully, the community starts growing, engagement and new initiatives seem to grow by the day, and the exosystem is filled with a thriving user base.

But as time passes, the stagnation point inevitably comes for the token. The chain was wrong. The tech shifted. Or maybe the community just went quiet over time.

Token migration can be the answer to these stagnation points. Done right, it is a relaunch, a reset, and a technical upgrade rolled into one move.

Done wrong, it can fracture your community and create more issues than it solves.

When Should You Migrate Your Token?

Escaping Low-Activity Chains

The clearest migration case is when a token exists on a blockchain with dwindling activity.

If your token launched on a network that never achieved meaningful adoption, migrating to a chain like Base or Arbitrum will give you access to a more active ecosystem.

Cross-chain migration to established networks will position your token where liquidity, attention, and development resources are concentrated.

Reviving a Dormant Community

A well-executed migration creates natural touchpoints, serving as a relaunch moment to re-energize your community.

It is hard to maintain mindshare in crypto. Even projects with large community activity and social hype early on can see engagement drop off to nothing over time.

Announcing the migration, explaining the benefits, and setting timelines provide reasons to reconnect with token holders who have drifted away.

The practical requirement that holders must take action to claim new tokens ensures at least some level of re-engagement.

A migration also signals that the project is still active, still developing, and willing to make structural improvements.

For communities that went quiet, it can be the catalyst that brings conversation and trading activity back.

Leveraging New Tech

Tokens on older Clanker versions (or non-Clankers) are missing out on advanced features that could dramatically improve their tokens’ capabilities at the infra level.

The ability to create custom liquidity distribution curves with up to 7 LP positions allows creators to make more or fewer tokens available within specified price ranges.

This matters more than it might seem. Concentrated liquidity at specific price points can reduce slippage for traders, potentially increasing trading volume and the fees that creators collect. Dynamic fees that adjust based on volatility can protect liquidity providers during periods of instability while maintaining competitive rates during normal trading.

The anti-MEV protections alone justify migration for tokens that experienced significant bot activity during their launch. v4's initial MEV module introduces a two-block delay between deployment and trading activation, preventing same-block sniping. Future modules will explore auctioning first swaps to benefit creators rather than extractive bots.

You can read the full breakdown of v4 features in Clanker Founder Jack Dishman’s v4 intro article.

Joining the Wider Clanker Community

Community effects matter more in crypto than in any other industry.

Migrating from a non-Clanker to Clanker v4 will add your token to a recognized community, enabling access to shared infrastructure and cross-promotion opportunities.

When Shouldn’t You Migrate Your Token?

Listed on a Centralized Exchange

If your token has achieved CEX listings and maintains active trading there, migration becomes significantly more complicated.

Centralized exchanges require advance notice, cooperation, and often technical integration work to support token migrations.

Large exchanges may simply decline to participate, effectively forcing holders on those platforms to manually withdraw and then migrate.

This friction can fracture your community and create confusion about which token is the “real” version.

If your token is established enough to be listed on a CEX, migration is likely to bring more issues than benefits.

Established Integrations

If you have collabs where your token is used in other ecosystems or apps, it can also create friction for migration.

If a partner project doesn’t update its integration, it could result in continued usage of the old token with the partner’s community.

You’ll need to make sure all external integrations are accounted for and prepped for the migration if you choose to go ahead.

Current Features Suffice

If your use case is straightforward and your current infrastructure works well, migration can just introduce complexity without meaningful benefits.

Simple memecoins, for example, often thrive on simplicity and virality rather than technical sophistication.

If your token found its niche with the simpler tech, Clanker v4's advanced token tech may be a solution in search of a problem.

How to Migrate a Token?

The Empire Builder migration tool is the most streamlined way to execute a Clanker v4 token migration.

It handles the heavy lifting: snapshotting holder balances, deploying the new token, and managing the airdrop distribution to eligible wallets.

To begin, connect your creator wallet to the Empire Builder dashboard and input your existing token's contract address. The tool will pull a live snapshot of current holders, which you can filter based on your chosen migration criteria (e.g., minimum hold amounts, wallet age, or days held).

From there, you set your migration ratio (more on that below), configure your new token's parameters using Clanker v4's full feature set, and define your claim window. Once launched, eligible holders will see a prompt to claim their new tokens directly through the interface.

Best Practices for Token Migration

Removing Unlocked Liquidity

Most previous Clanker versions lock liquidity by default, which means you won't be able to pull it ahead of migration.

If your liquidity is locked, the cleanest path is to sell any team or personal token holdings into the existing pool before the migration. This converts your position into ETH or the base pair asset, which you can then use to seed initial liquidity in the new v4 pool.

The goal is to give the new token a live market from day one. A migration that launches with no liquidity can stall as holders who claim their new tokens have nowhere to trade, and the momentum you generated through your comms goes flat.

The size of your initial liquidity buy should (roughly) match the market cap of the old token. This gives holders a natural reference point and reduces the perception of a downgrade

If you held no team tokens and all liquidity is locked with no accessible funds to seed the new pool, consider a small community raise or treasury allocation specifically earmarked for launch liquidity before proceeding.

Migration Recipients and Ratios

Who receives new tokens and in what ratio is the most sensitive decision you’ll make during migration.

The seemingly “fair” solution is to make it a 1:1 swap for all holders, but this can lead to high sell pressure post-migration — especially if the original token’s liquidity is locked.

You will need to gauge how to filter recipients based on what works best for your community.

Should it be holders who have held for a certain number of days? Those who hold a minimum amount? Or only addresses with a verifiable social score?

These decisions must be communicated and clearly understood by the community to help mitigate backlash (though you won’t be able to please all the people all the time).

Post-Migration Timeline

It is best practice to implement a cut-off date for claiming new tokens.

Clanker allows you to remove any unclaimed tokens from the migration airdrop pool after 30 days.

Extending this out to 60-90 days should give more than enough time for people to claim, assuming you communicate the migration adequately.

You can also track how many tokens have been claimed from the migration airdrop. If the deadline is approaching, but only a small percentage have claimed, you can extend the deadline and attempt a final push to get people to claim.

Unclaimed Tokens

Once you close the migration window, the unclaimed tokens will be transferred to your admin wallet.

Projects typically handle unclaimed tokens in one of several ways:

Adding them to liquidity pools to deepen trading markets

Burning them to benefit remaining holders through supply reduction

Holding them in a treasury for future use based on governance decisions

A combination of all is usually best if there is no clear direction from your community on what to do.

Full vs. Partial Migration

Migrations don’t need to be all-or-nothing. Partial migrations allow you to expand your scope while keeping continuity on existing platforms.

For example, a project may have launched a token for its initial product, but as the scope of the project expanded, it grew beyond just that one product.

The team might choose to do a partial migration to an overall ‘project coin’, while still maintaining the functionality of the old token within the initial product.

That being said, performing a partial migration will require managing two parallel token ecosystems, which can add complications.

Clear communication on the relationship between old and new tokens and their value props is needed.

Done poorly, it could create confusion amongst the community. Done well, it can provide flexibility and help negate some migration risks.

Stealth vs. Announced Migration

You will need to decide whether to announce the migration in advance or just go for it and announce afterwards.

Each approach suits different circumstances:

Pre-announcing gives the community time to prepare and understand the process, and allows for adjustments based on community reception.

The downside of pre-announcing is that it can cause less committed community members to dump their tokens and try re-entering post-migration. Hopeful of picking up a larger amount than through the normal migration route.

Stealth migration minimises the window for speculation and removes avenues for gaming the system.

The downside is that it can feel sudden and might damage trust if holders feel they haven’t been given adequate voice.

You can also do a combination of both, where the migration is announced, but the exact date is not. Then “stealthily” perform the migration when best suited.

If using the Empire Builder migration tool, our recommended strategy is:

Prepare all your migration comms in advance

Perform a “Combination” migration:

Add initial liquidity with creator buy to match market cap

Use a 0.8x migration ratio if old token liquidity is locked

Use an alternative ticker/image for the new token to avoid confusion

Post your initial comms and send out daily reminders

Have an extended claim window of 90+ days

Direct message anyone who has not claimed before the window ends

Community Communication Best Practices

Temperature Check

Test the waters with your most engaged community members before committing to a migration.

You can do this privately through DMs with big holders or via community chats.

You might uncover issues that you hadn’t thought of or find that community preference is to stick with the current token.

Alternatively, if the community is pro-migration, a temperature check will help identify community members who can help communicate and support the migration.

Prepare Your Announcements

Write out all your comms before taking any action. Include the migration timeline with specific dates, step-by-step instructions for claiming, the migration ratio + days held requirements, what happens to unclaimed tokens, and who to reach out to for support.

Once prepared, post these announcements at the same time on all channels. Different community members get information from different sources. Make sure you announce the migration on every channel, even ones you think are unused.

During the claim window, prepare additional comms to keep the community up to date on the migration progress. E.g., How many tokens have been claimed so far, milestone celebrations, or provide troubleshooting advice for common issues.

Be Annoying

Post daily about migration progress, even if it seems like overkill. Being super active on all channels constantly will help ensure holders on the fringes of your community know the migration is taking place.

As the claim deadline approaches, identify holders who have yet to claim, and send them a DM on Farcaster or other socials (if possible) to make sure they know the deadline is coming up.

Should You Migrate Your Token?

The decision to migrate ultimately returns to first principles. Does migration serve your project's goals and your community's interests?

If the answer is yes and you can execute it well, migrating to Clanker v4 is the way to go for optimizing your token's infrastructure.

If the answer is no (or uncertain), then sticking with your current set-up is perfectly fair.

The key is making the decision deliberately, understanding the tradeoffs, and committing fully to whichever path you choose.

Leaderboard data lives entirely on the blockchain, making it a public resource that other smart contracts can access, read, and build upon without special permission.

With this composability, the following use cases (and more) become possible:

Access Control Based on Leaderboard Position:

A protocol could gate access to certain features based on a user's position in an Empire leaderboard

For example, only users in the top 100 of a leaderboard might be able to access premium community features.

Cross-Protocol Rewards:

Another protocol could distribute its own tokens to users based on their position in an Empire leaderboard on the smart contract level.

This creates possibilities for cross-protocol incentive alignment directly onchain.

Meta-Leaderboards:

A contract could aggregate user scores across multiple Empire leaderboards to create composite rankings.

This enables more complex incentive designs spanning multiple activity types.

Weighted Governance:

DAO governance contracts could weight votes based on a member's position or score in a contribution leaderboard.

This creates a merit-based governance system tied to verifiable onchain activity.

Dynamic NFT Properties:

NFT contracts could update metadata or attributes based on the owner's leaderboard position.

For example, an NFT might evolve or gain new visual features as its owner climbs a leaderboard.

Whitelabel Solutions:

The onchain leaderboard implementation also opens up an opportunity for Empire Builder whitelabel solutions.

Each contract can support up to 50 leaderboards. A whitelabeled partner interface could be given access to update one or more of these leaderboards — allowing for their own dynamic leaderboard ecosystem.

For example, a project like ProductClank can utilize the Empire Builder endpoints to generate leaderboards more suited to product founders, focusing on rewarding community marketing rather than just token holders.

Custom Leaderboards:

Empire Guardians will also be able to import or create custom leaderboards, maintaining their own branded leaderboards while leveraging Empire's infrastructure.

A gaming platform could track player rankings, a DeFi protocol could measure liquidity provision, or a content platform could reward creator engagement — all using the same underlying leaderboard architecture.

2. Individual Token Distributions:

The second update is a heavily requested feature from the community — specifying which tokens to include in a distribution event. Rather than always distributing all tokens held by the contract, Guardians can now target specific tokens for distribution.

When initiating a distribution, V2 contracts can accept an array of specific token addresses to distribute. If no specific tokens are provided, the system defaults to distributing all allowed tokens. The contract still validates that specified tokens are part of the allowed token list before proceeding with the distribution.

This upgrade provides several key benefits:

Strategic Distribution Planning: Communities can now plan more strategic token distributions, e.g., distributing a particular token for specific activities.

Resource Optimization: By selecting specific tokens to distribute rather than distributing everything at once, Guardians can better control the flow of different token types within their ecosystem.

Targeted Incentives: Different tokens can be used for different purposes or different leaderboards, allowing for more nuanced incentive mechanisms.

3. Scheduled Distribution and Burn Options:

V2 introduces the ability to set up future token distributions or burns that can only be executed after a certain time.

The scheduled distributions will go to the leaderboard at the time of execution (not the time of scheduling). This enables several new use cases:

Predictable Reward Cycles: Communities can establish regular, predictable reward distributions that are verifiable onchain.

Long-term Planning: Token distribution strategies can be planned well in advance, allowing for more strategic community management and better participant expectations.

Further Gamification: Guardians can run contests, introduce new boosters, or add additional leaderboards while the scheduled distribution is still yet to occur to help drive community participation (and volume to the token).

4. Updated Default Tokens:

Upon launching a new Empire, the following tokens will be automatically authorized in the treasury:

WETH (Wrapped ETH): 0x4200000000000000000000000000000000000006

USDC: 0x833589fCD6eDb6E08f4c7C32D4f71b54bdA02913

CLANKER: 0x1bc0c42215582d5A085795f4baDbaC3ff36d1Bcb

GLANKER: 0x33aC788bc9Ccb27e9ec558fb2bde79950A6b9d5B

The Empire's associated token (e.g., $dickbutt will be auto authorized for the DICKBUTT Empire)

5.
Welcome to Empire Builder! This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to start building and managing your token empire on Base. Whether you're creating a new token or managing an existing one, we'll cover the essential tools and strategies for success.

We've spent the last two years watching token launches play out the same way.

A creator deploys a coin. The community rallies for 48 hours. Jeets dump. The chart flatlines. The creator goes quiet. Holders are left wondering what happened to the "community" they were promised.

The problem isn't the tokens themselves, it's the infrastructure around them. Most launchpads hand creators a contract and a Telegram link, then call it a day. There's no built-in way to actually run a community once the token exists.

Empire Builder is taking a different approach. Instead of treating a token launch as the finish line, it treats it as the starting point, giving creators an entire toolkit to build, reward, and grow their token communities.

Why "Empires" and Not Just Tokens

The word empire reflects a structural shift in how on-chain communities are being built.

A traditional token gives you a chart and a holder count. An empire gives you a treasury, a leaderboard, a booster system, and a built-in reward distribution engine, all tied to the token, all controlled by the creator (the "Guardian").

It's the difference between launching a coin and launching an economy.

Who Can Build an Empire

Empire Builder works with both new and existing tokens, and can be attached to a Farcaster profile or custom hub (for tokenless access ot the tools).

For existing tokens:

If it's a Clanker token you must be the original creator.

For any other token, you'll need to be in the top 5 holders — a Community Take Over (CTO) mechanism that prevents abandoned tokens from being hijacked while still giving committed holders a path forward.

For new tokens:

Anyone can deploy through Empire Builder.

An empire is automatically spun up alongside the token.

Creators get an enhanced fee structure (more on that below).

For no token:

Anyone can attach an Empire to their Farcaster profile or custom hub

Perfect for those who aren’t ready for a token yet, but want to utilize the Empire infra.

Step 1: Launch Your Empire

The setup starts with a single click. Hit "Create" and choose what you want your Empire hub to revolve around — a token you've launched, an existing token you hold, a Farcaster profile, or any other anchor for your community.

Empire-deployed tokens get the full premium treatment: enhanced fee splits, native treasury integration, and unlocked features that take longer to configure on imported tokens.

Step 2: Build Your Leaderboards

This is where Empire Builder really separates itself from anything else on Base.

Most token communities have one implicit leaderboard: who holds the most. That's it. Whales win, small holders are background noise, and there's no real way to recognize the people actually showing up.

Empire Builder turns leaderboards into a customizable layer. Using built-in templates, you can rank your community by:

Token balances — the classic measure

NFT holdings — useful for projects with collection-based identity

Social activity — Farcaster engagement, casts, replies, recasts

Staked balances — rewarding long-term commitment over speculation

Anything else — through external API integrations or CSV uploads

That last point is the underrated one. If you have an off-chain metric that matters to your community, you can pipe it into a leaderboard and have it count.

The result is that a single Empire can run multiple leaderboards in parallel, each measuring a different kind of contribution. A holder leaderboard, a creator leaderboard, an engagement leaderboard, all visible in the same hub.

Step 3: Add Your Boosters

Boosters are the amplification layer.

Each Empire can configure onchain actions — staking, NFT holdings, token holdings, or reputation signals — that community members can take to multiply their leaderboard scores. Hold a partner NFT, get a multiplier. Stake your tokens, get a bigger one. Maintain a certain reputation score, stack them.

Why this matters: Boosters break the flat hierarchy of "whoever holds the most wins." A small holder who actively participates — collects the right NFTs, stakes long-term, contributes socially — can outrank a passive whale.

Practical setup tips:

Start with accessible boosters. If your minimum requirements are too steep, only existing whales benefit.

Mix booster types. Combining staking, NFT holdings, and reputation creates a layered engagement loop.

Step 4: Build Your Treasury

The treasury is the payout layer — and it's deliberately designed to live next to your leaderboards rather than off in a separate dashboard.

Each Empire includes an audited, non-custodial Splits smart vault. Only you and guardians you appoint can control it, which removes the "trust me bro" element from creator-controlled treasuries.

You can fund it three ways:

Direct deposits — drop ETH or any ERC-20 in yourself

Inbound community flows — route launch proceeds, contributor splits, or other community-generated revenue into the vault

A combination of both

Balances stay readable directly on your Empire page. That's the whole point — backers should be able to see treasury depth and leaderboard participation in the same view, instead of hopping to Etherscan or a separate analytics tool to figure out whether the project actually has resources.

Step 5: Reward Your Holders

This is where treasury and leaderboards finally close the loop.

Empire Builder gives Emperors several distribution modes, all aligned with the leaderboard math:

Proportional payouts — sweep the treasury into leaderboard rewards weighted by rank or score

Even cohort distribution — split rewards evenly across a defined group (top 50, top 100, etc.)

Raffle tiers — randomized payouts that still respect leaderboard tiers, adding gamified upside

Booster multipliers carry through. If a holder's score is amplified by a 3x staking booster, that multiplier is reflected in their reward share. The behavior the leaderboard incentivized is the behavior the treasury actually rewards.

For one-off campaigns, Emperors can also send loyalty bursts from the treasury or ancillary NFT/ERC-20 drops directly from their own wallet. All distributions are verifiable onchain, which means treasury outflows reinforce leaderboard behavior instead of drifting off into unrelated transfers that nobody can track.

Where Empire Builder Fits in the Bigger Picture

Zoom out, and Empire Builder is part of a broader shift in how onchain communities are structured.

The first wave of token launches was about speculation: get listed, pump, dump, repeat. The second wave, kicked off by Clanker, was about distribution, giving creators easier ways to launch and earn fees.

Empire Builder represents the third wave: retention. It is the infrastructure required to keep a community engaged after the launch hype fades.

Whether Empire Builder becomes the standard or just one option among many, the model it's pushing is the right one.

The future of onchain communities won't belong to the projects that launch the loudest. It'll belong to the ones that figure out how to keep their holders actually showing up, week after week. The ones that are building empires.

Building a thriving token ecosystem – an empire – requires tools, infrastructure, and support that lets creators focus on what matters most: their vision and community.

There has always been a disconnect between what token creators are good at and what running a token actually requires.

The best creators are community builders, artists, storytellers, and culture-shapers. They are not (and shouldn't have to be) smart contract engineers, treasury managers, or DeFi mechanics experts.

Yet the current meta forces every creator to wear all of these hats. You either become a part-time blockchain developer, or your project dies a slow death.

This is the gap Empire Builder fills.

Built on Base, Native to Farcaster

Empire Builder is deployed natively on Base and integrates directly with Farcaster, the two ecosystems where token creators are already building. No bridging, no migrating communities, no asking your audience to learn a new platform.

It's been stress-tested by an initial creator group on Base over the past several months. The feedback loop with these early users has shaped every feature in the platform, ensuring it actually solves real creator problems.

What's Actually in the Box

Empire Builder isn't trying to be everything to everyone. It focuses on the specific pain points that consistently kill token projects:

Treasury Management

Multi-token treasury support across Base and Arbitrum, all tracked in real-time USD value. Creators can distribute equally among their leaderboards, trigger Raffle Mode for random distribution, or burn tokens with precise percentage control.

The Booster System

This is where Empire Builder gets interesting. Creators can deploy boosters for their Empire, supporting both ERC20s and NFTs, with customizable multipliers up to 5x.

In practice, this means a creator can reward participants of a partner project, NFT collection, or specific tokens with weighted leaderboard positioning. It turns a flat leaderboard base into a layered, dynamic community structure.

Leaderboards That Mean Something

The platform offers multiple community leaderboard templates, from top token and NFT holders, social engagement, to custom CSV and API imports, then gives the options to apply booster multipliers and produces a live ranking.

Empires guardians can include or exclude specific wallets, useful for blocking team wallets, exchanges, or known bad actors from skewing the rankings.

The Clanker Partnership

The most underrated piece of Empire Builder is the Clanker integration. As one of the first-ever official Clanker interfaces, tokens deployed through Empire Builder get a 80% creator fee split.

The split breaks down as:

80% to the creator

20% to platform development

Community Take Over (CTO) Mechanics

One of the more interesting features is the CTO mechanism for established projects. If an original creator goes inactive, the top 5 holders of standard tokens can qualify to take over Empire control.

Built by Builders Who've Lived It

Empire Builder is founded by DiviFlyy (Adrian) and Orajo the Yerbearserker (Jordan Oram). Both have spent years building, watching projects rise and fall, and identifying the same recurring failure modes.

The product reflects this lived experience. Every feature exists because something specific went wrong somewhere else first.

The Bigger Vision

Empire Builder isn't pitching itself as a tool. It's pitching itself as infrastructure for an ecosystem.

Tools are transactional; you use them, you pay for them, you move on. Infrastructure is foundational; every project that builds on it strengthens the network for everyone else.

This shows up in the roadmap:

Comprehensive SOPs and workflow guides for Guardians

Events, spaces, and marketing assistance for growing Empires

Educational content and Guardian support systems

Bonus allocations from Empire Builder's fee share, distributed to power-Empires in future updates

The goal is for the platform's success to compound through the success of the creators using it — not the other way around.

Why This Matters Now

The token launch space is at an inflection point. The Clanker era proved that low-friction token deployment was possible. The Moxie experiment showed that social token utility could be tied to engagement. But neither of these solved the operational problem of running a token long-term.

Empire Builder is the missing piece — the infrastructure layer that turns a token launch into a sustainable Empire.

For creators, the calculus is simple.
