🎓 Campus Tour Highlights + Meetup #2

The Community Is Growing!

ETHAccra’s Campus Tour continues to light up universities and March was no exception. Here’s what went down:

📍 KNUST – March 21 & 22

We kicked off in Kumasi with standing-room-only sessions at KNUST. Students jumped straight into hands-on learning with Remix IDE, building and deploying their very own ERC-20 tokens.

They also:

• Learned to query blockchain data using The Graph and subgraphs.

• Got practical tips to prepare for the ETHAccra Hackathon from ideation to team formation and tooling.

• Ended the session with community networking, linking with local Web3 builders and enthusiasts.

📍 University of Ghana, Legon – March 28

Our second stop was nothing short of epic. Over 50 students explored the building blocks of Web3, starting with:

• A blockchain and Web3 fundamentals crash course

• Hands-on Solidity sessions, including the deployment of their first NFT smart contracts

• Discussions on NFT use cases from digital art to academic records

  By the end, attendees left empowered with real tools and ideas to build on Ethereum.

💬 ETHAccra Meetup #2 – March 29

As a follow-up to our Legon workshop, we brought together the ETHAccra community for Meetup #2 an afternoon of ideas, learning, and collaboration.

Purity – The Technical Product Manager Who Led Her Team to Success

For Purity, ETHAccra Hackathon 2024 was a chance to push her limits. As a Technical Product Manager, she had experience working with dev teams—but Web3 was still new territory.

From day one, she was fully engaged, balancing Ethereum development, team leadership, and problem-solving under pressure. The workshops helped, but what stood out the most was the sense of community she felt at the ETHAccra Hackathon 2024.

"Participating in ETHAccra Hackathon 2024 was a significant experience in my Web3 journey. The sense of community and the drive each team put in to push blockchain innovation was inspiring.", Purity said.

The biggest challenge during the hackathon? Integrating multiple L2 networks into their project within the tight hackathon timeframe. The solution? Smart teamwork.

The result? A functional prototype delivered just in time.

💎Biggest lesson: Strong teamwork and adaptability are key to overcoming Web3 challenges.

Sarah – The Web3 Newcomer Who Took the Leap

Sarah almost didn’t apply. She thought, "Hackathons are for experienced developers, not someone like me."

But when a friend encouraged her to attend, she took the leap. At first, she felt overwhelmed by all the jargon and fast-paced energy around her. Then, she joined a workshop on smart contracts - and something clicked.

"I was intimidated at first, but the workshops helped me understand smart contracts. Now, I’m excited to keep learning!" - Sarah mentioned.

By the end of ETHAccra Hackathon 2024, Sarah wasn’t just watching from the sidelines—she was part of the action.

💎 Biggest lesson: You don’t need to be an expert to start—you just need to show up.

Edith – From Web3 Beginner to Blockchain Builder

For Edith, ETHAccra Hackathon 2023 was her first real exposure to blockchain and Ethereum. She started off trying to find her feet, engaging with hackers, mentors, and her team.

By the end of the first day, something changed. She had gone from curious observer to active builder, developing a deeper understanding of Ethereum beyond her prior research.

"What stood out the most was how collaborative and insightful the environment was—everyone was willing to share knowledge, making it a great learning experience." Edith told us.

ETHAccra boosted her skills, especially in smart contract development. She built Estate Exchange, a decentralized platform for property trading, which even won a sponsor bounty🎉

💎 Biggest lesson: Reaching out to mentors earlier could have saved time and helped her team structure their approach better.

Now? She’s attending blockchain workshops, sharpening her skills, and preparing to build something even bigger at ETHAccra Hackathon 2025.

But here’s the good news: you can take steps to protect yourself. Whether you're using a single-user wallet or a multi-sig setup, following these best security practices can help you stay ahead of hackers.

Let’s dive into 10 essential crypto security tips every Web3 user should follow. 👇

1️⃣ Separate Your Dev Wallet from Your Main Wallet

Never use your main wallet for:

🚫Testing smart contracts 🚫 Claiming airdrops 🚫 Interacting with DeFi platforms

Why? Some contracts contain hidden approvals that hackers can exploit. Instead, keep a low-balance burner wallet for testing and treat your main wallet like a vault—interacting only with trusted protocols.

2️⃣ Read Transaction Messages Carefully

The ByBit hack involved fake approvals, tricking users into granting malicious permissions.

Before signing any transaction:

✔️ Read the details carefully—avoid blindly approving dApps

✔️ Use wallets like Rabby or Fire to preview transactions

✔️ Be cautious of “permit” transactions—these can grant unlimited access to your funds

3️⃣ Use a Multi-Sig Wallet for High-Value Transactions

Multi-signature wallets like Gnosis Safe or Safe (Wallet) add an extra layer of protection.

🛡️ Best practices:

🔹 Require at least 2-of-3 signers for major transactions

🔹 Store one signer on a hardware wallet for extra security

🔹 Avoid keeping all signers on one device

If an attacker compromises one key, they still won’t have full access to your funds.

4️⃣ Beware of Phishing & Fake dApps

Hackers clone legit websites to trick users into connecting their wallets.

🚨 Stay safe:

✅ Always double-check URLs before signing in

✅ Use browser extensions like Wallet Guard or Blockaid to detect phishing sites

✅ Never connect to airdrops promising “free tokens”—many contain malicious approvals

If a dApp seems too good to be true, it probably is.

5️⃣ Limit Wallet Permissions

Many DeFi protocols request unlimited spending permissions—a huge risk if the platform is hacked.

🛑 Reduce your exposure:

✔️ Revoke unnecessary approvals using:

🔗 revoke.cash

🔗 Etherscan Token Approvals

✔️ Set spending limits instead of granting unlimited allowances

6️⃣ Use a Hardware Wallet for Long-Term Holdings

Your private keys should never be online. Cold wallets like Ledger or Trezor keep your funds secure from online attacks.

🛡️ Extra security tips:

🔹 Store your backup completely offline

🔹 Consider a second hardware wallet for cold storage (no internet exposure)

🔹 Use a passphrase feature (hidden wallet) for added protection

7️⃣ Never Share Your Private Keys – Keep Them Secure

Your private key or seed phrase is the only access to your funds. If someone gets it, they own your crypto.

🚨 DO NOT:

❌ Share it with anyone—even “support teams”

❌ Store it in notes, screenshots, or cloud storage

❌ Type it on any random website

✅ Instead, write it down on paper or metal plates and store it somewhere secure.

If someone asks for your private key, it’s a scam. No exceptions.

8️⃣ Test Before Sending Large Transactions

Sending a big transaction? Always test first.

🔍 Why?

✔️ Some malware modifies clipboard addresses—you might send funds to a hacker

✔️ A small test transaction helps confirm the address is correct

Better safe than sorry!

9️⃣ Use a Burner Wallet for Untrusted dApps

Never connect your main wallet to:

❌ New DeFi platforms ❌ NFT mints ❌ Airdrop claims

🔹 Instead, create a burner wallet with just a small amount of funds

🔹 If the dApp is malicious, your main assets remain safe

🔟 Stay Updated on Security Threats
